I am interested in getting .22 Discovery in the future. I want to get just the gun at 1st without the pump. I do have paintball tanks both 20 0z co2 and carbon fiber compressed air tanks. What would I need to make the tanks fill the discovery? Is there a cheaper pump then 200 bucks I see advertised, seems every brand is at least 200 bucks, is there an alternatives?
Is the .22 as loud as I hear the .177 is? I shoot mainly indoors currently with my Whisper. Thanks for any input and help!

I getfittings from hydraulic supply companies, but they can be purchased online also.

Palmers Pursuit (http://"http://www.palmer-pursuit.com/cart/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1)Palmer probably has macro line and tank valves rated to 2000psi, but you'll certainly want to be sure that the hose and fittings are rated for high enough pressure.

It is better to get the discovery with the pump than to get it separate in the future.
The cheapest so far that I found is being sold by pyramid air. It is the AirForce 3-stage PCP Hand Pump, for AirForce Rifles, Pumps up to 3600 psi. Cost is $189.
The one for the discovery sells at almost $200.
But if you buy it as a package (since you have plans in the future to buy it anyway), it would only cost you $379.
The rifle alone without the pump would set you back $240. Figure in the cost of the pump (if bought separate) + $189 = $429!
If you get the package with the pump at $379, deduct the cost of the pump - $200 = $179! You would be getting the rifle for just $179
They're trying to sell the pumps at a higher price so that if you go that route, you get to pay them more.
So, the better deal is getting the package (gun + pump).
Good luck on your choice.

I bought mine right from Crosman on their internet sight. After the internet discount it cost me $12 more than through a supplier . Keep in mind that they are filling their own order first then supplying the dealers so if time is important to you keep that in mind . Also you might give Cobra air a call and see if they have any in stock that they could get out right away as well. Marvin

I too am considering one.  I teach scuba and have tons of cylinders and regs sitting around.  For those who use a scuba setup, would a 1st stage and a lpi hose attach to the Discovery?  I have a simplified 1st stage with an lpi hose on it for dusting computers and filling tires and am hoping this will work.

Jay,

You will need a yoke with a bleed off valve or screw a high pressure line a reducer depending on the thread size. Mine was 1/4 npt. I'll send you some pics of my setup when I get home.

Here is my setup. The only thing missing is the female foster fitting. I took it off for my CO2 setup.

Thanks for the pic Jason!  Yeah, that's a similar setup I have in mind if and when I do decide to get the discovery.  From the top of my head, I believe the female quick release fitting on a lpi hose is 3/8", but I can get an adapter to reduce that.  I see you're using a scuba yoke assembly.  I'm thinking of using an old 1st stage regulator and the low pressure inflator hose with the proper sized fitting.  Since the regulator will be bringing the hose pressure down to (2-400 psi if I recall correctly), I won't need a bleeder - I can simply hand remove the quick release and it'll come off with a small pop.  I'm going to experiment a little with some setups and get them ready for when I do order one and post an update.

I've been shying away from pcp's, but with the pricing of the Discovery and all my spare scuba parts sitting around, it's looking better and better every day.

hi hiroller

i might be confused a bit , but you will want 2000 psi in the disco to shoot , 2-400psi will not be enough presure, HTH , dana

Your right - in all the excitement I didn't think about the fact that the rifle needs to be filled to 2000 psi.  Okay, bleed valve it is - I'll use a 2nd stage high pressure hose (rated up to 4000) and try that.  I guess I can leave my secondary 2nd stage on there to bleed the air once done filling.  Man, they've gotta design a pcp spear gun I can fill under water with an extra hose - that would rock...

Speaking of tanks, I have two carbon fiber paintball tanks that hold co2 and compressed air. Each is has a different regulator, in paintball they were know as high pressure or low pressure but I don't know what that means as far as psi. Also they are marked for 5 years and they both have 1 year left, where do I go to get them fit tested again? Is there one adapter that will fit paintball tanks?

hi
i am a little rusty on the paintball stuff , but as i recall the carbon fiber tanks are for HPA high pressure air , the air in the tank is at 3000 and or 4000 on some of the newer tanks , but the regulators bring them down to 900 for the high pressure and 450 for the low pressure , paintball CO2 tanks are mostly alloy and do not have regulators on them the fitting will only have a small burst disk , HTH , dana

So would they be usable for the Discovery to refill? I am still confused.

hi
you can use a standard alloy paintball CO2 tank to fill the disco with an adaptor sold for it , around $40

or with that same adaptor , you could fill with the high pressure HPA paintball tank to 900 lbs , but this is not too good , CO2 would be cheaper and better

all paintball tanks , HPA and CO2 have the same ends ( fitting ) on them , so they will all screw into a standard painball gun , here is a link to HPA and CO2 tanks
http://www.paintball-discounters.com/get_dept_5.htm
you can see they all have the same threads , but the HPA tanks have a regulator on them too , to reduce the 3000 in the tank to either 450 or 900 lbs

paintball CO2 tanks are easy to find at any walmart , they come empty and you have to fill them off a bulk tank or take them to a painball place

HPA tanks have to be filled at a paintball place ( paint ball park )

here is a link to the accesories page at pyramyd air
http://www.pyramydair.com/cgi-bin/show_necessities.pl?show=Accessories&SubModelID=2840
they list the adaptor for CO2 and show a CO2 tank

the other options of a pump or a scuba tank , the pumps are like $200 but then you have all the fills you want and don't have to run out to get your HPA or CO2 tank filled , the down side is you have to pump it

scuba is spendy but the tanks are big and you get them filled at a scuba shop and fill the rifle off the scuba tank , it will hold a lot of fills

i have a pump and a bulk fill CO2 , the bulk fill CO2 is a large CO2 tank like the ones the soda  and beer guys use for pop machines , i think it is 30 lbs of liquid CO2 and you get it filled at a welding shop , you need an adaptor to fill a paintball tank off it , and then an adabpto to fill the rifle off the painball tank

with all these setups the pump is about the cheapest longrun setup , second place would be a small 24oz CO2 paintball tank and the $45 adaptor , but then you will need to go get it refilled from time to time

Buy the combo directly from Crossman.  I had back order after back order from a supplier.  I canceled my order and bought direct from crosman.  It arrived in 3-4 days and it was perfect.  It's a great gun that is a real shooter.  I find the Crossman pointed seem to shoot pretty good.  I still haven't tried the Premiers but I'm happy with the pointed.  I only get about 20 shoots before I pump it up again.  I agree with others that the sweet spot is between 1200-1700 psi.  Enjoy.
