Okay, if the 220, 440, and 890S all share the same internals as the Shadow, what are the differences? I realize the Shadow has a synthetic stock, but all the Hunters have wood stocks. And why is the 440 the most expensive? I'm really thinking of getting one of these and replacing the spring with a gas ram, but I'd like to make an informed decision. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Dave, I bought a Hunter 440 stock from Gamo for $38.95 and they stil have them. If you buy a new Shadow from Midwest or Natches for $139.95 and buy a stock from Gamo you will still be ahead..:)
I think the Hunter 440 is higher because of the wooden stock. All a bunch of marketing BS..:)

Dave, Gene is right on track---the 220 has lower quality wood (beechwood), and thin butt plate.
The 440 has nicer wood, a raised cheek plate and a much thicker butt plate.
The 890s supposedly has Monte carlo stock with decent wood quality, but no sights.
These are the differences as far as I've found anyway. Hope this helped

The 440 also has the "micrometric" rear sight, which is supposedly better than the sights on the cheaper guns.
Not true.
The micrometric has play in it, an click-for-click it has a coarser adjustment on both windage and elevation. I've found that the cheaper sight on the Shadow and 220 is actually better.
Also, the top of the breach block on the 440 is not machined flat like the others. It's rounded to match the contour of the receiver tube.
This is all rapidly becoming a moot point, as Gamo USA has apparently stopped shipping guns with open sights.
