: Easy muzzlebrake for polymer barrels
: RatPatrol May 12, 2008, 05:36:16 AM
Here is a muzzlebrake that I made for my varmint hunter. It's made from a piece of 6061 aluminum that we use to make tie rods and radius rods. It's 1" in diameter and has a hole in it preformed for tapping, but any 1" alum rod would work. Next I drilled the hole to 13/16" (0.8125")...I went as deep as the drill would go (like 4"). Turns out that 13/16 is a perfect fit for polymer barrels. After deburring it I painted it flat black. To install it, I ran it under hot tap water until it was hot, and then pushed it onto the barrel. It's a perfect shrink-fit. :)

Pretty cool idea.  You can probably get a front sight on that thing too if you wanted to.  Fnash - you think maybe something simple like this can help you with your hunter issue?

how do you like the laser / light set up on the scope?

And the wife is looking for you hehehe, so stock up on more pellet's, air the tire and hide from the wife if need be. :o Nice work on the breake. :) Ed

I really like it now that i've tweaked a few things on the laser.
I changed the adjusting set screws to bolts and locktited them, and also rotated the mount so the laser is on the same horizontal centerline as the scope.
The light works well and is plenty bright for the job.
It's fun to plink at stuff at night from the hip with the laser...i giggle every time i hit the target. :)

I was cleaning the gun and it went off. :p

It's my son's car...what...you've never seen a flat tire on a dumpster before?

I'm also low on jerky.

I put the wife on the train last fall...and the car is in her name.

she can put her own air in the tire(and while it's flat, she can't use the car to cheat on her new man, too)

Has anyone shot a filled tire with a pellet rifle?  I'm curious if it'll penetrate...

I would recommend against it. If it doesn't penetrate, it will come right back at ya!

I would hope the layers of steel belts might present a formidable barrier for a pellet.  I would expect a pretty good "trampoline effect" however.

there is still some air in the other three tires...I feel some testing is in order. :)

You'll shoot your eye out, kid.  Unless you shoot at an angle....make sure no one/nothing are in the receiving end!!!!

Yea I doubt it by a longshot that the pellet would penetrate.

How's the brake working out so far?  Any change in POI or accuracy?

Try it with the lead free pellets, if you try it.
