After work this afternoon I decided to head to the duck farm and do some starling sniping to help me get rid of the stress from work. I decided to give the G-1 Extreme .177 a chance to show her stuff so I loaded her up along with a good supply of CPL's.
When I got to the farm I went straight to one of my favorite sniping locations, which is a large barn with an old telephone pole 20 yards from the barn. I set up inside the barn next to a large window and hung camo netting over the window to conceal my movements. I set up my little backpack folding stool and I was all set to rock. This location gave me a perfect shot at any birds landing on the pole or wires.
Didn't take long before the birds started landing on the pole and the wires attached to it. For the next hour the routine was the same,,,,,, a few birds would land on the pole, I'd carefully stick the tip of the barrel of the G-1 through one of the holes in the netting,,,, I'd pick out a bird, take aim and fire. Took 14 shots and got 14 kills. The G-1 just couldn't miss today :) That G-1 just keep getting nicer and nicer to shoot as she digests more pellets,,, plus it has Bobs trigger (of course) and it's just a pleasure to shoot with.
The birds kept landing on the pole at regular intervals so the shooting was nice and steady but as the sun began to set the glare from the sun made the location to difficult to shoot from so I packed up my gear and headed home with the dead yellow beaks so I could take some pics for the GTA huntin crew :)

I'm looking forward to, and expecting, a good year for starlings at the farm this year. There are very good numbers there all the time now and it seems like every crevice on the farm, whether in a tree or building, is home to a nesting pair of yellowbeaks :)

There are so many starlings at the duck farm that it's simply incredible, but even with all those birds sometimes getting a shot can be a task. Right now is one of the best times to shoot them at the farm as they are busy building their nests in every crevice on the farm so if you're well hidden you can just sit tight and they will come to you. I found a great new sniping place the other day but I have to use camo netting to conceal myself otherwise the birds won't come in and land.
The best shooting of the year is when this one HUGE Mullberry tree on the farm produces it's berries. I conceal myself in the brush almost directly underneath the tree and the birds come in by the flock to eat the berries. The shooting is unbelievable !! The tree is huge and the amount of berries it produces is amazing. I get good shooting under that tree for about 1 month, which is the time it takes the birds to consume all the berries. Once the berries are gone so are the birds.... then I have to go back to targeting the grain feeders.
