Fellow airgun hunter/FT shooter SteveV stoped by today with his new BigEd Bam dressed in a simple Walnut (lefty )stock by Brian. This one has a 12" LW barrel and new design shroud. First we all got our finger prints on it then we tried the chrony, 683fps w14.5g Benjamins checke d the air and it had 1000psi. Filled to 2000psi-854fps, bumped it to 2500psi-891, 2650psi-869fps , we shot it a good while and it read 868fps with an ending pressure of 1900psi. Not bad for a hunting carbine. I took mabye seven shots to figure the scope/trigger .... moved the scope three click each way and shot this at 27yards from a shaky bench,

We hiked the back 140 for a hour or two looking for squirrels but only got within 30 yards of Deer. A nice day with an airgunning friend.

Thanks for the post. Great pics and nice wood. Sounds like you guys had a good day! If you would, please drop me a PM and tell me more about Brian and this lefty thumbhole stock.

Love the wood and pics. The shroud is really nice as well.

Don't know how I missed this thread before. Great looking shooting iron your friend has there John. Big Ed can really do a number on these devils, mine is my favorite day to day shooter. Someday maybe I'll spring for some nice furniture for it, but for now the standard B51 thumbhole fits me fine. I really like the stubby barrel, bet it makes the handling of the gun much better....I've always felt the B5X series guns were a bit on the long side. Great stuff!

I told ya Dano! Remember all the good stuff I said about Ed' work? I'm glad you are a believer now!

You were right my right, dead right. I was really put off by the Chinese PCP offerings after my B50 tanked so hard, but then I kept reading post after post about the Big Ed tuned B5X's and thought,"What the heck, I'll give it a go.". They are still rough guns, and mine has needed a little tweaking to make it "mine", but the work that Ed does makes them real shooters. Most of the work I have done to mine has been to improve the fit, not the firing behavior. Again I still wouldn't recommend an out-of-the-box B5X to anyone, especially not for a first time PCP, but a Big Ed tuned PCP isn't a bad option for someone on a bit of a budget. The B50 I wouldn't recommend to anyone who can't do woodwork or doesn't plan to replace the stock, I still find that one of the worst fitting stocks I have ever shot. The B51 thumbhole is a pretty good fit though. Ed recrowned a stock barrel for me and this one is a real good shooter, not bad for a $360 PCP.

I totally agree with all your points, the gun on Ed's website is the one I modified the stock on. My b51 was much better fit wise. Even with all the high end guns I've owned I still think the bam is a great gun after Ed works his majic on it. For what Ed charges there is nothing better PCP wise that I can think of.

My question is what are those little 5-leaved plants all over the ground in the squirrel hunting pic? I have those all over my yard.
