Hello All,
I have been doing quite a bit of reading & searching here on GTA. I thought I would finally say hello. After reading all of your reviews about different guns on this site, I purchased a .177 CFX about a week ago & Bob's trigger. Very happy with both. It really puts the hurt on those ground squirrels. The only question I have is what FPS should I be seeing with superdomes?? I chrono'd it & am getting pretty consistent 750-770 fps. I thought it would be a little higher than that.
I have put approx 400 superdomes through it so far. I have had good luck with the gamo scope that came with it as well. I had some concern, but it looks like it is going to be OK. I'm not target shooting, just whacking ground squirrels.
Just want to say thanks for everyones reviews & opinions that helped me decide which gun to purchase.

WELCOME to the GTA Forums Ken,
We're happy that you decided to join our family of airgun addicted shooters !
The CFX is a fine choice, and very accurate. As for the velocity of that model, I don't know. For me, if it does the job, it's fine ! :)
We do have a Hunting Gate here to post your hunts and photos, we all love photos :)
Hope to see you here often !

The FPS should go up a little with time but not much...My shooting buddy has a cronied Crosman G1 that runs just over 900 and his hit with a good bit more authority than my CFX..Gamo overstates their numbers quiet a bit...

Welcome Ken,,, nice to have you with us. We'd love to see some pics of those DOA ground squirrels 8)
You made a fine choice with the CFX,,,, I have one in .177 and one in .22 and they are both excellent shooters and hunters.
Will be looking forward to your future posts....

Thanks all for the welcome. I definitely can't be disappointed with the accuracy. I hit a squirrel at 51 yards (I ranged the post it was sitting on). I don't know if I killed it but from the sound of impact, he has a real sore spot. I did think I would see somewhere around 850 fps though.
I'll have to start taking some photo's, the CFX has 7 notches now. Those superdomes really smack em!! It's been raining for the last 3 days so not much action.

The FPS does sound a bit low to me but it seems to be getting the job done. The CFX power plant is the same one that's in the Shadow, the 440, 220, 890 etc........ and I believe the FPS should in fact be at least in the upper 800's. Is it possible that you're simply getting some inaccurate chrony readings??
If not I would think perhaps a problem with a seal????? I'm just guessin here,,,, but the FPS does seem low to me.....

Ken,
My .177 shoots in the 900's after a CDT tuen but is was not far off that out of the box. Your numbers are low for SD's.

Thanks for the info PBJ. I am debating sending it back for another one. I thought I would see somewhere around 850 at least. Scored 2 more ground squirrels with it today though. It still hits pretty hard at 750. Still curious to see what a few other people are getting before I send it in.

Ken, I recently had my Shadow 1000 tuned by CDT and per the report he sent me the average velocity was 792.7 fps before the tune and 917.8 fps after the tune. Pellet weight for test was 8.3 gr. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info Jack. Your after tune numbers are great. I guess I'll just shoot for awhile & send it in for a tune. Too bad we have to spend extra money to make a gun what it should be from the box. It still shoots very well, just not quite the velocity I was expecting. No I have to see if I can wait til the spring breaks before I send it to Bob.
Thanks again,
Ken

Hey Jeff,
I haven't been able to recover any of the squirrels yet for photo op's. When they fly off the post they land in a blackberry thicket. I know they went to sleep because there's less targets than when I started. :emoticon:

This is weird I wonder if my fps is slightly low because I shot just one raptor out of my CF-X I just got today to see how loud it was and it wasn't loud at all so I don't know if it went supersonic or not. But then my friend shot one out of his Daisy Powerline 1000 and it wasn't loud so I don't know. Powerline's I heard usually get around the low 900's with 8-8.5gr pellet out of the box. I'm confused.

KYkeith, that is weird. When I shot Raptor pellets with my Shadow 1000 (before I knew it could damage my gun) I got a very loud supersonic sound like a 22 cal. rim fire. I have since had a tune and will never shoot that light of a pellet again. I think that if you're not hearing the sound then it's not going supersonic.
