has been underwhelming, to say the least. What's the matter, afraid of a little competition :-) ? Or did everyone shoot in the match on the other forum and were bored? I know there are a lot of good shooters on this forum, and I count myself in that group. But am I the only one that gets tired of shooting against myself all the time? Or my wife, which is worse, cause she shoots better than me. I live in the mule deer capitol of Washington, so there's not much interest in air guns around here. So, in the hopes of getting some competitive juices flowing, here's a couple of practice targets. Both of these score a 5/6, although the bottom center on the 20 yard target is close.
Couple of things. When you print out your targets, make sure you set your printer to print in landscape mode, otherwise the targets won't print out right. And when it comes to printing targets, I like to use card stock instead of regular printer paper. It seems to cut cleaner holes, even with domed pellets, and wad cutters look like you used a hole punch. Gee, I wonder if I can get a hole punch in .177... Come on, guys, lets put this thing together, maybe do a second shoot out against the other than Gamo shooter on the AirGun Gate.

And now I find out the forum has a 75kb limit on attatchments. Help!!! Okay, problem solved, obviously. Important info I left out, though. Rifle is a Varmint Stalker .177 (Shadow 1K with bells and whistles), GTX II trigger, 2-7x32 BSA scope @ 7x, JSB Exact pellets, 8.4 gr. 4.52 mm head diameter. I mention the last because I have these in 4 head diamters. I tried the 4.52 and 4.53's tonight, the 4.52's seemed a little better, but I was rushed by losing daylight. Will do more thorough testing later.

I am not affraid....:) I don't care if someone beats my targets.. I just want to have a lil fun with these targets.. I think we may even be able to learn a bit of information by seeing what pellets others shoot in the same model air rifles. Plus maybe a lil competition with the other forums. I know the NZ forum would love to whip us Yanks...:) But it is all in fun and learning..

Here are my targets guys. Momma wore me out today in town.... :) But was able to get some shooting in before it got dark...
I have less than 200 pellets in this new .20 conversion on my Wally World Shadow 1000...:)
Ok guys lets put up them targets. Lets get the show rollin..... :)

Not bad, Gene, but it's supposed to be ONE shot per bull... Disregarding the extra holes :-) I'd score those as 3/6, 3/6, 5/6, & 5/6. Like I said, not bad, especially when you factor in an essentially new gun that's still be broken in. Heard from Bob today, my CFX should be on it's way back Monday. And despite his bad eyes, he said he'd try to make time to get in on the Shoot-Out. Of course, I had to take my bosses Shadow back tonight, so I'm rifle-less at the moment. I TOLD you I NEEDED that .22! I don't know how I'm going to fight off the withdrawal symptons.
Okay, guys, I know at least 3 of you were interested. Youkilis, disregard what I said about Gamo only. We NEED shooters! Of course, that only applies if you don't outshoot all us Gamo guys :-). BlackMamba, you and =ed also indicated some interest, so lets see some targets!
Damn, no rifle for ??? I can feel the shakes setting in already....

LOL Dave
Those extra holes were made from touching the trigger before I got sited in...:) Oh well, I will play by the rules when everyone decides to play...:) Come on guys. Lets get started..

I was gonna post my targets, but after shooting 10 yd and 15 yd, I got disgusted! :0 :0 I figured at those ranges, I wasn't doing well, I didn't even want to try the 20 and 30 yd distance......I need a lot more practice, to say the least.
-
Hey, Mark,
Don't let it get you down, man. I find that 10 yards is a lot harder to shoot at than 20 or 30 yards. Don't know why, but it is. Now I know why 10 meter competition is so tough! Exactly what's the problem, just can't get in the groove, or what? I know I have those days where I couldn't hit the side of my shop. Just remember, the whole idea behind the Shootout is to have fun, and to practice a more real world type of shooting. We get so locked in to shooting for small groups, we forget that it's meaningless in a hunting situation. In hunting, you want to be able to consistently put that one shot in the kill zone. That's what Field Target competition is all about, and that's what our little Shootout is trying to simulate. So hang in there. The more shooters we have, the more fun for all, and the more we can all learn. Hey, at least you have a rifle, mine's on it's way back from The Tuna. Later.

Just aim n shoot Mark. :) Easier said than done.. he he he. Well you are not alone my friend. I usually have a window during the day to shoot. Sometimes I can't stop my weaving from side to side so I just gesstamate... and let er rip.. :). Ya like Dave said we are just wanting to have fun and see what pellets and things everyone uses and does.
Good Luck

Am tempted...don't know when I'll get to it, but am tempted. Will try to download the target.
Nope...don't expect to win. Do expect that if I could get this rifle in the hands of a better shooter, it might win. Been playing with a gamo 128 single stroke pneumatic and have been impressed.
Guess it's time to see if that old rifle (and shooter) can keep from tossing a shot off the page.
----
OK...set it to difficulty of 15 as stated in the rufles, and my yardage (23 yrds...that's all I've got).
-
..
I'm a little confused about how it's supposed to go.
In the yellow forum, I believe you select your range and print out a corrected target at 15[or maybe 30] Troyer and shoot 4 targets.
I didn't get that you were supposed to shoot at each differing range.
I got the idea that this was supposed to be like theirs because it worked in that each person could choose his "comfort range" and shoot equivalent difficulties.
Am I getting confused, and misunderstanding?
-
LOL Ribbinstone
It is not about winning. Just for fun. I really don't think Dave or I wanted to have a competition, just a fun shoot with Gamo's. Everyone has different styles and use different pellets.
It is just having fun is all. Everyone grab the targets and print out the distance that you feel comfortable with. I chose the 15yard, 20 yard and 30 yard for instance. My eyes are not so good anymore and I weave alot but I love to shoot.

Probably in this string of posts, but I'll ask again.
We shoot all the targets at one range...or we vary the range for each target? I've got a max. right now of 23yards, so that's what I set the traget program for.
Damned things are red...so i'll have to remove the apature and put on a scope.
Was a time I'd have tried this off hand...is depressing to be confronted with the corrosive effects of time.

Ribbonstone and Ed,
Pick your range, set difficulty to 15. You're welcome to shoot all at the same range, or mix it up, whatever you are comfortable with. But not too comfortable. Yes, the idea is to have fun, but the truth is, we're really all shooting against ourselves, so it doesn't hurt to challenge yourself a bit. I intend to see what I can do at some longer ranges, once my rifle gets home (NEXT Monday, damn it!). I can go out as far as 75 yards in my little back yard "range", I wonder how big the target gets at 75 yards? Just looked, the bull is over an inch, and the outer rings overlap the bull. May try it, just for grins, but will probably shoot a 20,30, 40, & 50 for "real". Hope the weather cooperates, we've had on and off rain for the last week, and a couple of hard frosts. Temps went from the 90's to the 60's practically over night. 'Twould seem fall has fallen. Okay, enought blather, GO SHOOT!

He He He, I think that was my problem...just aiming and shooting. Sorry to sound like a whiner in my previous post, but after seeing the other targets that had been posted I felt a little embarrased. I've been shooting for quite a while and it was an "eye opener" for me to say the least. I had planned on 10, 15, 20 and 30 yd distances. 10 wasn't too bad, but 15 was not what I expected. I'm thinking wow, if I'm starting to "slide" at 15, wait until I shoot the 30 yd one....and to think I actually considered 40yd at one point....whew! :D
-
Crap.
Got three targets shot, then it started raining (a real rain...not that gentle mist that Seatte folks think is a rain).
Reprinted targets...will tray again in a day or two.
Decided to move the target up 3 yards and shoot a news set at 20yards,,,figure my as well use some even number rather than 23yards.
-
Ok...wouldn't know how to digitize a target if my life depended on it.
What I just finished doing was posting 6 targets.
After knocking around a dirt clod (I just scoped the rifle in order to see the red bullseyes and needed to get it close enough) used target #1's ceneter bull for final sight in.
From there, shot 36 times, no sighters, one shot at each of the bullseyes.
Can fax them to whoever wants to recieve them...can smail mail the originls...or whatever is suggested.
Will attempte to get my wife to make a digital picture of the rifle and pellet tin to go along with the other information.
-------
Not sure about how they are scored, but it was certainly a goodw ay to spend the late afternoon. IBy shot #30, certainly does put the pressure on the last 6 shots.
Learned (relearned) some things:
1. From knockign around the dirt clods, you can think you are dead on...but was off enough to miss a head shot on a cowbird at 20yards. Nothing beats paper for knowing where you are.
2. When the light shifts, so do the pellet holes...as the sun goes down and things get a bit gray, the POI drops a little bit.
3. I can't comfortably fit 6 targets n my back stop-box. Can eaisly fit 2 targets per side, shoot two...rotate box...shoot two..etc.
4. Don' trust the little yardage numbers on the objective...test the paralax and ignore the numbers.
-
Great Ribbonstone
It is fun when you get right down to it. Even if it is just for personal satisfaction. I really enjoy shooting paper. Each one of my Gamo's I have started marking the objective with pin stripe tape for 15 yards, 20 yards, 30 yards and 40 yards. I was getting tired of reajusting the scopes every time I change the distance....:(.. CDT told me a while back that allot of guys who shoot targets just mark there scope for the distances. I know all my BSA scopes objective's are not calibrated right. So that takes care of the adjustment.
Sure makes life easier, especially when you have 9 Gamo's to shoot paper with.... yikesssssssssssssss :)

Only have two Gamo rifles (although I may take a crack at it with a gamo pistol),,,the old 128 and a Gamo 850C. Have only seen one other 128 Iand here I'm using anumber from memory as the rifle isn't marked other than Gamo, caliber, and serial number)...it's pretty much a copy of a Walther single stroke pneumatic. May shoot one target with the 850 and another with the pistol. Pistol wears iron, and I doubt I'll see that red dot all that well at 20yards, but the 850 is scoped.
Scope I put on is a Simmons 6-18 marked "Air Gun Scope Competition", seems a good scope; at least the clicks are worth what the turrets say they are (1/8" at 100yards works out to .025" at 20ayrds...so it takes a few cicks to move it an inch).
-
Hey, Ribbonstone,
If the targets had black bulls, could you see them then? If the answer is yes, here's how to do it. When you set up the printer to print in landscape mode, there should be the option to print in black & white only, maybe grayscale. Either of these will make the target print with a black bull. Hope this helps!
Dave

Figured out how to print them in black and white...but was following the stated rules and using them unchanged.
Now that I've shot them and have no good way of sending them in, am going back to apature sights...if I get a chance, will make a few tragets in black and give the apature a try as well as the other two Gamos in the house.
