: Backyard Starling
: longislandhunter May 30, 2008, 01:14:42 PM

When I walked into my backyard this morning to start doing some yard work I heard the distinct calls of starlings up in the tree tops. As I looked around I suddenly saw 3 yellow beaks land on my backyard lawn and start poking around for whatever it is they poke around for. I slowly walked over to my truck and retrieved the .177 B3-1 I keep under the rear seat as my truck gun. I loaded a Beeman Silver Bear and slowly returned to the backyard. The 3 yellow beaks were still there, about 25 yards away near one of my wood piles. I put the crosshairs of the little 4x32 scope on the biggest bird and squeezed the trigger. I immediately heard that wonderful "POP" sound that the pellet makes when it slams home. The bird just fell over dead as a stone. The other 2 birds took off immediately. I sat up on my deck for about an hour waiting for more starlings to appear but I didn't get any more shots. There were plenty of starlings in the area, but they stayed clear of my yard. Once in a while one would land way up in one of my trees, but they never gave me any clear shots. I snapped a picture for the GTA hunting crew before putting the gun away......

Thanks guys,,,,, there's just something about those cheap chinese shooters that I love, especially when I get to take out a critter with em :)

That little gun is one of my favorites,,,, still can't believe they can sell a gun that is built so strong (it's built like a tank) and shoots so good for such a low price.

It's kinda rainy here today but I may keep an eye out in the backyard and see if I can pop some more starlings...  :)

Well done Jeff. You know I think there's not a better picture than an avian gangster laid out in repose.
