I have a air force talon on CO2 that I upgraded to a 24 inch barrel and the accurancy was 1/2 inch at 50 yards. I just recieved a barrel shroud and I assume it was made for a condor frame because it lacked about 1 inch of seating in the talon frame. Long story short I chose to cut 1 inch off the end of barrel to make the shroud work. I am extremely impressed with the sound reduction but my accurancy has gone to pot! About 1 and 1/2 inch at 40 yards! Did I totally screw up or can this problem be corrected? Thanks in advance Nick

Did you recrown the barrel after you cut it? If not that is most likely the issue. Anything else I will leave to the Air Force gurus.

I used a dremel tool with a tapered stone on the barrel end. I do not know what else to do. I am thinking about borrowing some precision files from work tommorow to remove any burrs. Thanks

Those barrels were made with a choke (a bit of constriction at the muzzle)...remove the muzzle end, remove the choke.
MAy not be ruined, but will need to re-test pellets and hope to find one that shoots well. Are other barrels (on different airguns) that use non choked barrels that shoot well, so you're may not be hopeless, but it certainly sounds like your current pellets aren't going to be the best choice.

Like Ribbonstone said, the LW barrels on the Airforce guns are choked. You will most likely never be able to fully correct the problem unless you find someone that can rechoke the barrel (many gunsmiths can do this). Also as Peakchick said you will have to recrown the barrel. Rather than try to fix it with a set of files or Dremel tool(most likely make it worse), you would probably be best off letting whoever rechokes your barrel also recrown it. There are ways of polishing barrel crowns by hand in your garage, but none will be as good as a pro doing it with the proper tools. I've done it a couple times with a brass screw and valve lapping compound and they came out "ok". I think there is a guide in the Library here if you decide to go that route, but again it wont be perfect. Sorry to sound dismal,

I thank everyone for your help. I am going to give the lapping compound a try but most likely I will have to find a gunsmith.

Don't give up...try different pellets. Have several non-choked barrels that will shoot 1" at 50yards (5-shots).
Can do an acceptable job of crowning...that muzzle is covered by a shorud, so it can't get damaged from knocks,dings, abrasion. All a crown has to do is release the pellet smoothly and evenly, it does NOT have to have a specific shape, so don't get carried away with "style" on a muzzle that's hidden under a full length shroud (and the exptention tube counts as a shroud).

thanks again-contacted the manufacturer(Tony of Talon Tunes). He is going to recrown the .177 barrel and make a new shroud and gave me a great deal on a 24inch 22 cal. barrel that will work with the shroud. He thought my talon was a SS model which has a longer frame. Tony is a great guy to deal with and goes out of his way to make the cutomer happy! By the way the shroud makes the gun unbelievably quiet. I like the 24 inch barrel because it gives the talon on CO2 the speed of a good springer with better accurancy(at least for me)!
