This is about as low as I've seen for the Fast Deer, not a bad deal.
-
...or warranty. Wonder how they wound up with a bunch like that?
AND FOR THE NEWBIES - do NOT believe the published velocity figures. You can count on about 600fps in .177 and 450-500 in .22 caliber.
-
Only selling the 0.177's. I could've been tempted but there was no 0.22.
Nice find though.
Thanks still. =)
-
I couldn't fine a Fast Deer in 22 cal and I looked every where. The deer as well as all china rifles FPS are not true But they still are nice rifles I don't know what they used for pellets Maybe Gamos gold raptors.. But the FPS are bull. howie
-
Shipping to my area was only 12.00 for two of them. Will likely be doing some experimental modifications with them to see how things go.
-
Just added it to my collection and ordered one tonight. Total is $31.90, not bad for a .177 project springer. Thanks for the heads up.
-
Ted:
Where is your area? Could you tell us where Best Airgun is located. They don't answer e-mail.
Like you, I could use a couple parts guns.
Mike
-
I ordered one too I loved the deer I had before. howie
-
Thanks Howie, just another temptation for me to fight. (http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-undecided.gif)Just think, cheaper than a Tools Now B3 and you don’t have to remove that ugly front sight (on the B3).(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-cool.gif)

Location: st pete fl I was making 2 new mussel breaks and thought maybe one of the members might like to see the steps I took in making them , from 2 galvinized pipe nipples 1/2 inch x 5 inches and 2 washers , after they are finished all that is needed to do is ream them out to a sliding fit over the barrel and drill and tap 2 screw holes in the break for clamping them to the barrel .Howie
I tried to move the pictures from the old post but they wouldn't work but you can pull up the pictures up from the(( search ))the location is the shop and 4-5-2008 take a look howie

I'm in Eugene, Oregon.
From their site:

You use a 1/2 inch pipe nipple and solder a washer on the end to get started then grind down the threaded end the npt starts the taper for you and drill and tap 2 4-40 holes to put the allen set screws in and fine sand and blue. about an hours work no big deal. howie

They were all probably shipped from the factory without front sights. They were probably coming already bent out of shape, the American distributors complained, so the Chinese yanked them all out. The question is, what are the Chinese going to do with all those front sights?
-
China:
Foreman: "Did you box up that large shipment of KL3B's for BestAirGun?"
Employee: "No, glorious foreman, we are still waiting on the front sights which are delayed due to earthquakes"
Foreman: "Go ahead and box them up anyway. They are creating a log-jam in the factory"
Employee: "Wont the Americans be upset the rifle is missing a part?"
Foreman: "Maybe, but they will always buy more. That's what they do, consume! LOL"
Employee: "hahaha"
BestAirGun:
Receiving dept: "All these KL3B's are defective as they are missing the front sights!"
Sales Manager: "That's okay, just mark them down to $20.00 and move them out. This rifle is usually a project gun anyway, so we'll say something like that in the copy. Heck, they may just start buying more of our scopes because of it, which we have a larger profit margin anyway. Hahaha"
Receiving dept: "hahahahaha"
American airgun consumer: "Sweet! BestAirGun is unloading the Fast Deer for cheap because it's missing a front scope. Might as well buy two of them and make a project out of them. Hahaha"
-
Well, I just couldn't hold out any longer,,,,,,, I just hit the order button,,,,, for $31.90 how could I go wrong :)
I've been staring at this little rifle since the original post was made about the $19.95 sale price but I was good up until today,,,, then all of a sudden my love for cheap chinese guns finally got the best of me and before I knew it I had typed in the credit card info and hit "order". I have no idea what to expect from the gun, but it looks nice and after a little work I'm hoping it will perform as well as my other cheap chinese backyard shooters :)
Even if it doesn't,,, who cares???? I got a new rifle coming and that puts the world back in sync :)
Jeff

Yep, I have enough break barrels now. Time to mix it up with some side and under cocker's.

Ted:
I think you missed your calling. You could make bigger money in N.Y. City writing for SNL.

Howie:
Thanks for the heads-up! Two are on the way. They'll make back-up parts guns for the two I already have.
Mike
-
OK...I bought two with some paypal for $51 with shipping.
Can't resist a cheap fix.
JJ
-
Well, most of the advertised fps are bull be it china or others. But for 20 buck..hehe. Somebody just mentioned how the fps is in .22 that's why i looked wehter this was .22 or .177.
Would make a good project gun though 'coz if you srcew up it's just $20
-
I'm going to fashion a muzzle break with a custom front sight welded to it!
I just love tracking numbers! My guns are in Commerce City Colorado, en route to Portland, and then Eugene by Friday!
-
I got my fast deer I found it at the front door along with my RSW 92 in a pouring rain it was raining cats dogs lion tigers ever thing it rains sidways up down every which way possible in Fl. Lucky me when I opened the boxes they were dry inside but the deer not only didn't have the front sight but it didn't have any sights I guess I'll just have to shot it like a shot gun and put a ivory bead up front. LOL ha ha howie ps maybe best air gun will give me another 10 bucks off for no rear sight .
-
Just checked my tracking number,,,,, my "deer" is scheduled to arrive on the 27th :)
I can't believe I'm so excited over a $20 shooter,,,, but then again this happens every time I order a new air rifle,,,, any kind of rifle :)
Jeff
-
This is my second deer My son has the first if this one comes out as good as the first It will be a great gun one of the things I did to make the trigger break smoother was to polish the sear and the notch that the sear go into and I ground a taper on the sear so the point of contact became less contact as the trigger was pulled you had full contact when the sear was engaged but as you pulled the trigger the sear was narrower so the friction was less. I hope you can understand thi, and naturally I did a tune and put the seal from the SS cleaning kit in the gun , I also shortened the barrel and did a recrown as well as fire lapped the barrel, added a muzzle break. it turned out a very good shooter.and I did some stock work but that was just for looks, this deer has better wood than the last one. and the bluing looks better too.The first deer when you fire it it just seams to make a nice solid sound not wimpie. howie PS I'll be working on it in the morning.
-
I did a basic chamber tune leaving the leather seal in but when I got to the chamber their was some scratches I ended up polishing them out using my break hone now it's fine I also did a trigger tune , and made a muzzle break for it and re crowned the barrel and did a total rifling cleaning, and installed a scope. it has no barrel droop , or any bend either to the right or left I put a straight edge on it. The first shots were hight and to the left but on top of each other. Now I've got it sighted in and it shoots great it only has about 50 rds through it so far and I haven't made the scope rails longer yet but the scope I have on it is not to long so their isn't a problem with loading it. all in all it's not a bad rifle out of the box. see the pictures howie
-
Rifle looks great,,,, mine is scheduled to arrive tomorrow,,,,, now you've really got me salivating for mine to arrive :)
Jeff
-
Excellent job on the rifle. I just received one from Cummins yesterday. Story of my life, a day late and a dollar short! BTW, thanks for the pics of the muzzle brake, looks first rate. What scope are you using?
John
-
It's a Tasco silver antler i got off ebay for 8 bucks it work fine the only thing is for some reason it adjusted backwards from all the other scopes I have when you move the adj. right it moves the scope right and the poi left. crazy but you just have to rember how toadjust this one LOL howie
-
Can't beat that price. Looks good on the rifle!!!
John
-
Just unpacked my newly arrived $20 dollar Fast Deer. No damage except for some minor scratches on the plastic butt plate,,,,, covered with chinese mystery oil of course,,,,, but it looks great. I have to clean it up and go over it after all the oil is off, but I gotta tell ya,,,,, the stock on it is really really nice with what looks like a nice pattern and very even staining,,,, no evident barrel droop that I can visually detect and the metal looks good with no scratches or marks. I'm really lookin forward to cleanin her up and playin with it.... Now I wish I had bought 2 :)
Jeff
-
Their is a tune up instructions by charlie in the library you might want to check .howie
-
I have a set of sights for some one needing them. For Fast Deer...
just pay shipping.
Howie I sent you the Proto....
Gid
You got em Ted...I will send them tomorrow if the PO is open
if not Monday...
-
Hi Gid,
I'll take those sights! pm sent.
-
My two FD's arrived today as well. One had only the rear sight, the other had no sights. Both coated with a stinky oil. The boxes were torn open at the ends, so I'm surprised there was not more damage to them other than a few scratches on the plastic plate. One of the rifles had a little "quality assurance" tag and an owners manual in the box. Kinda cool items. Have not started the tear down yet, but I'm all set with the right lubes thanks to CdT!
The stock on these look very clean to me as well, with the varnish being crazy thick which may be hiding some detail. It appears they screwed the plastic butt plate on first then coated them again and again with a varnish.
Will take some photo's and post them in the China Gate.
-
Well, after dinner I took the action out of the stock and cleaned all the rest of the chinese mystery oil off the gun. I didn't bother with the insides yet, will do that another day when I start the tune, but I wanted to clean her up and just do some shooting to see how she functions. She cleaned up nicely and like I said in my last post the stock is really very nice and nicely stained and the metal is in good shape with decent bluing. Just for yuks I slapped a Leapers 3x9x32 AO on her and went out in the backyard range to see what kind of patterns and accuracy the gun would give. After getting the scope on paper I backed up to 20 yards and took a few shots, adjusted the scope,,,, took a couple more shots, adjusted the scope again, then finally took 2 final shots which went right through the middle of the 1/2 inch stick on dots I use for targets. this was done using CPL's which the target clearly shows the gun likes em :)
The gun cocks very nicely, no grinding or binding, no buzz or twang when fired and while the trigger is definitely stiff and requires a hefty pull it's still really not that bad. I got used to it fairly quickly and while I will do some trigger work on it I could very easily live with it just the way it is.
I gotta say,,, I'm really looking forward to doing a tune on this little shooter cause I really like it and right outa the box she's shooting pretty darn good. I took some pics of the gun after she was cleaned up and also my last sight in target to show the impressive groups and accuracy this little shooter is giving me. I did the best I could do with the pics but the lighting was bad in the basement,,,, the gun actually looks nicer than the pictures show.
I may just order me another one to play with :)
Jeff
-
Well, I couldn't stand it anymore and just had to have one. Now that I have looked at Jeff's pictures I am really looking forward to it's arrival. Many thanks Jeff. I would rather have the rifle without sights being I am a scope kind of guy. UPS tracking states the rifle should arrive next Wednesday.
John
-
I think you're really gonna like it John,,,,, especially for $20 bucks :)
I was really pleasantly surprised by this little shooter, I really am sorry I didn't order 2 of em. Looking forward to your post when you get yours......
Jeff
-
Heres how I made the scope rails longer also a before and after picture showing how much more loading room you can have ,It's a little work but this is a project gun and we are not to pay someone to do it for us. And the trigger mod involves polishing all sear and sear lock up notch on the piston as well as grinding a taper on the sear this doesn't touch or change the lock up faces they need to not be changed , This allows the trigger to have full lock up when the gun is cocked and as you pull the trigger the bearing surface becomes narrower and lowers the pull making for a better breaking trigger. It will never be a charlie trigger but it will be better than it was , the polishing of the surfaces is from Charlies fast deer tune up in the Library . I would print the instructions in the library befor doing the tune it's a big help. howie
-
Great post and pics Howie :)
That is a great way to lengthen the dovetail grooves. The 3x9x32 I slapped on the rifle last night is of course to long to use on the rifle as it doesn't give me enough room for easy loading,,,, but if I install a smaller 4x32 scope on it, which I planned to do anyway, it will be just fine,,,, so I don't think I'll be messin with the dovetail grooves. The 3x9 is nice but I really prefer a simple 4 power scope on my backyard chinese shooters. They just seem to be the perfect size for the guns and yet they provide all the magnification I need for backyard pest shooting.
As soon as I ordered the rifle I went ahead and printed out Bobs fast deer tune up instructions,,, I'm looking forward to getting started on it.....
Jeff
-
I think you will find that you grow to really like the deer this is my 2nd one the first went to my son and one he and I like is the deer is very accurate if you run into any problems with accuracy do a re crown My new deer is doing one holers with of all pellets the cheep daisy 500 for $4.00 in wally world every one in a while I will get a flyer but I think it's the pellets also it's not broke in yet since I only tuned it 2 days ago. My next thing to do is make the stock nicer maybe a raised check plate with a roleover, I'm still thinking what will look the nicest. howie PS I used to fish in shinicock for flounders and fluke about 40 years ago.
-
Ah yes, Shinnecock,,, fished their many times, especially at the canal, with my dad before we got a boat. The flounder fishing is poor now, but rebounding and the fluke fishing is actually very good now once you cull through all the shorts.
As for the fast deer,,,,, I really like it already,, nice little package and the accuracy is very impressive. I may order another one to play with and for spare parts. I really am impressed with the groups I'm getting with it,,,, even the out of the box power is sufficient for a backyard pest shooter which is what I wanted it for,,,, but I'm looking forward to tuning her up and coaxing a bit more power from her :)

I've just finished a complete rebuild using Charlie's instructions. Found the hardest part was sanding smooth the main receiver assembly ID. Ended up duct-taping some wet/dry sandpaper to a pvc pipe and spinning it with a drill.
Now have the stock stripped of the varnish to do some custom carving and reshaping.
Pretty dang fun really. Wife took the kids to the movies, and I just cranked away on it.
Ted
-
Heres the pictures of my finished fast deer it's been tuned and recrowned and this is the factory stock reworked and refinished, the target pictures is 5 rounds of crosman hollow points just 10 min ago. so you can see it shoots very good at 10 yds , I have a 4 x32 scoipe on it. howie PS the wood trim is purple heart but for some reason it didn't come up red but a deep black.
-
Howie:
Amazing!
How you do such beautiful work and accomplish it so quickly is completely beyond me.
Those owners of the big fancy yachts must certainly rue the day you retired.

Mike
LOL at Mike! So true. Very impressed with at what Howie achieved with a hunk of metal like the fast deer.
Howie, where does the original stock end, and the monte carlo stock begin?
Have any of you figured out a system for filing smooth the main receiver ID? I keep tearing up my sandpaper on all the stamped areas even after filing the burs off.
-
That sure is sweet looking,,,,, fantastic job !!
Jeff
-
That is the factory stock what I did was to cut material away and leave the wood to form a monty carlo and roll over cheek plate the only thing I cut off the original stock was about 1 inch just to get a flat end to join the purple heqart forearm on it is doweled as well as epoxyed together as far as working on the metal inside the receiver emery cloth is better lasting than sand paper. and I take a dowel and cut a slot in it for putting sand paper on the dowel this way I can put it on my drill and power sand it kind of flops around. Some times I will use my deep well sockets to wrap sand paper on for sanding curved surfaces like reliveing the fit to the barrel . howie
-
When I layed out ths stock what I did was to shoulder the rifle as if I was going to shoot it and since it fit good with or without a scope I left the height of the comb alone so in order to get the monty carlo style I drew the check plate on one side of the stock and the roll over on the other side. this was to not be cut away the rest will be cut away making the lower part of the stock thinner and nicer. also I lengthened and tapered the fore end of the stock to get away from the heavy feel of the fast deer , I was looking for a new look for the rifle. This is my 2nd fast deer I really like this rifle and the thing is very accurate I don't know what it cronys at but it just feels solid when it go's off. one thing with the trigger mod I do you don't know when it will break it just fires as you squeeze , some of the rifles you can tell about when it is getting close to firing but not with my deer. why don't the rest of you guys that have deer's put up some pics of how your deer's came howie
-
It took a few coats of paint stripper to get that finish off, but I'm just about ready to finish it as I have the shape I want. It's my first stock work, so I'm taking it easy.
-
Very nice something like the stocks that Tim N makes for the QB's howie
-
howie1a - 7/1/2008 6:15 PM
I don't know what it cronys at but it just feels solid when it go's off.
I just got a FD on monday, and building a compressor now. This will be my practice subject on minor tuning. It smoked a ton out of the box but calmed down after about 25 shots. My chrony showed a range of 634 to 670 fps w/Meisterkugelns (8.2g) The average over 10 shots was about 643 fps. Im looking forward to see if it can get better.
-
You do nice work Howie!
Really nice work.
-
Well...I pushed the buy button too...You guy's talked me into it... hehe... Looks like I got me a nice little practice gun.
David
-
Jeez, y'all had me seriously thinking about it...
"SOLD OUT. No future shipment expected." http://bestairgun.stores.yahoo.net/fadeklair.html
I was starting to have night-ratter bullpup fantasies. This is undoubtedly a sign that I should finish some of the other projects instead of funding new ones.
-
Has anybody thought about chopping both the barrel and the shoulder stock off, and converting the FD into a pistol? The kick on these is very mild. (apologies to Howie for butchering his image).
-
Hey Guys,
I just received two of these beauties on Monday, and I love the looks of 'em! Have not had a chance to try them out nor take them apart (never really sure which is supposed to be done first).
Nonetheless, I have a question that some of you more experienced guys may be able to help with -
I'd like to refinish the stocks. Has anyone had any success removing the stock coating that is applied so liberally over the plastic butt plate?? I'm concerned that ordinary stripper will ruin the plastic. Your thoughts would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Mike
-
I just take a 4x4 sander and 100 grit paper to the stock leaving the butt plate on this way the butt plate fits perfect , it doesn't take very long and is a lot less mess than paint remover also with paint remover their is the chance of taking out any void filler, If you want to use a paint remover we used to use oven cleaner to take painted names off fiberglass boat transoms. howie
-
Yeah howie1a, easy-off works great removing painted names on boats. I used to be a yamaha outboard mechanic when I worked for a local marina. I rigged new boats from start to finish. That was before I hurt my back.
Chris
-
Yep, paint stripper will soften the butt plate pretty easy. I didn't like the look of the hard plastic, so I pitched it anyway in favor or a softer rubber/hard foam one.
