We've all heard how springers can destroy scopes not built for air rifles. But if you have a 1000 fps rated gun that has been professionally tuned where the recoil has been "tamed", can a regular scope be used? I was at wally-world at lunch picking up some CPHP's, and they had a Simmons scope marked down for clearance at $30(marked down fron $59). I believe it was from the prohunter series. I read a thread somewhere on here about scope ratings for air-rifles, but cannot find it?!?!?! Also, when would you use the infinity setting on an AO scope? Thanks for any help anyone can provide. Happy shooting!!!! tjk

I know of three Simmons scopes that are air gun rated Thomas,
Since you didn't mention the model in question :
Simmons 22 Mag 3-9X32 AO TT for Light to Medium airguns
Simmons 44 Mag 6.5-20X44 AO TT for Med-Heavy
Simmons Pro Air 6-18X40 AO TT for Medium airguns
As for any model that is not airgun rated, you pays you money, and takes your chances ! and sometimes they still break on ya !

Thanks Big_Bill, I can't remember what model it was. I looked all over the package to see if it was rated for AG's, but saw nothing. Kinda ran into the same thing with the Tasco scope I put on the 0035,....fortunately I haven't ran into any problems with it,...knock on wood. After work I'll take the camera the have the pix developed and I'll check it out again. This time with your specks. I'll let you know what I find out!!! What about the infinity stuff?!?!?!?! Got lots to learn about scopes!!!!!!!Thomas

For all intent and purposes the answer is no and the reason being, although the recoil may be lessened, it will still have a double recoil. It is the combination of the double recoil and well as the harshness of a springer the dooms many scopes. Especially if they are not Airgun Rated.

Thomas, the infinity setting is for those shots that are waaay out there over 100yds or more.As far as the Simmons Scope that is bargained priced.....Hey it's only 30 bucks so if you try it and it breaks it will be an inexpensive lesson. All the new Simmons Scopes are much lighter so they would have a more forgiving inertia which might help them to survive recoil. If you buy/try this scope and regardless of how it works out please let all of us here know the results.

If you have higher powered air rifles is the chance of the scope going bad higher or if you keep below 700 fps is the double recoil low enough to help non air gun scopes from breaking? what is your thinking? howie

Hey everyone out in TGA Land. Just to let you all know, I truelly value everybody's advice, help, encouragement, and new found friends this forum has provided. To start with, I'd like to thank Bob for the "staight-shootin' no BS" answer to the question I asked. Personally meeting and befriending the one and only"CDT", I value your opnion above all else in the world of air-rifle knowledge, especially springers. Sage advice and dually noted Sir.
Master Progun, against my better 'finacial judgement',...and CDT's advice, I think I'll go ahead and "try her out" (can always return it,..LOL's). My plans are to use the crosman scope-mount fron the Sierra, and mount the $30 special on my Marksman. After the work CDT did on it,...Big Thanks Bob!!!,...it is within the velocity perameters of a "let's give it a shot" test run. No chrony yet, but I'd venture to say 625 fps with Beeman Silver-Bears (7.1 grains). She devours them!!!!!! Thanks for the infinity definition by the way!
And finally Sir Howie, Here's my take on your question,...made sense to me at least. I agree with your comment/idealogy concerning the lower powered rifles and their forgiveness on non-air rifle rated optics. It's hit or miss I suppose. $30 is alot better than learning that leson with a $400 scope. I will say that I put a Simmons "Pro Diamond Shot-Gun" scope on an old 397 Benji I bought my Dad for Fathers Day,....last March. Every time I get up that way, He and I will take a couple shots together and it's always on target,....Minus the Springer Recoil!!!!!! And boy do they have some Fat Healthy Bushy-Tails! Dang things are plentiful too!!!
Now for an official apology to the TGA forum. Just to tell you how dumb I am, I thought I had only 6 or 8 pix left on the camera, but as it turns out, the counter goes the other way?!?!?!?!? John Boy and Billy 'Duh-Huhhhhhhh'!! I took some pix of my range to share with all,..but still have a few frames to spend. Please be patient, and as soon as I can, I'll have my TGA Bro', PryorDaniel post them for me if he will. Sorry guy, still ain't figured out that 'photo...whatever thing' out yet?!?!?! LOL's How's that Red-dot by the way????
Thanks again fella's for the reply's, Happy Shooting Everyone!,...and keep that $%^& safety on!!! Thomas
