: Lube tuned a Falcon 25 cal today. LONG! DETAILED!!
: cliffspot June 25, 2008, 08:15:16 PM
My friend at Sunshine Airguns asked me to tune one up Saturday, got to it today. Gun shoots 780 fps with Webley Mosq pellets out of the box. Gun has a good balance, the blue crosshair scope is nice, see how long it lasts as this gun has a decent kick to it! Snappy, quick firing cycle, a bit of twang...not really to bad. Beast to cock! Not for plinking unless your the Hulk! So let's get inside........
Hmmm, the stock screws don't want to come of...what the? They are reverse threaded!...ok, trigger guard screws, no problem. Pull out the action, looks good...no hidden rust or rough spots. The trigger has some kinda beartrap thingy..interesting. Take out the pin for the safety lever...that's off. Take out the trigger blade pin, ok. spring for the safety, ok..... take off the sear lever pin...shoot! where'd that spring come from?!?!?! ok, goes between the sear lever and the piston hook...how the heck do I get it back in? Any way, took apart the rest of the trigger parts, the beartrap. Put her in the compressor, tapped out the receiver block pin, unscrewed the trigger housing bolt....and out she comes. The rear block is plastic with an integral spring guide. How you gonna make a custom for that? it has a synthetic washer topped with a metal washer against the spring. Spring is coated lightly with a blackish grease, smooth and well made with the ends nicely finished...very even. Piston is a snug fit in the comp tube, little on the tight side...break in will be nice. The piston is stainless or chrome plated, long too! The seal looks great, no cuts in it at all...not too hard or soft... clear yellow. There is a massive tophat of the chrome/stainless metal like the piston. Almost 3" long, the top diameter is approx. 3/4", for about an inch and the rest is a pressed in shaft of almost 2" long at about a little less than 1/2" diameter. The barrel is held in place with a large pin, no screw and nut arrangement ala HW. I noticed AFTER I took it out that one side was serrated (is that the term?) to lock it in place going out right to left (gun in shooting position)....dumb me went the WRONG way! The breech block has a flat washer on the left and a concave spring washer on the right. No cocking shoe. Cleaned the barrel and the comp tube and trigger parts. Polished the spring ends and the washer and the tophat. Greased and tarred where applicable and ptu it all together. Got the pesky spring in the trigger and tested the reassembled trigger before I put the mainspring in ( getting smarter brah!!) Put everything back together, wipe down, action in the stock, loctite the screws and good to go! FORGOT PELLETS!!! DUHHHHHHH! Can't even shoot one shot! Tomorrow, chrony and check the firing cycle. I am expecting less torque, smoother shot cycle. Twang should be a little less but I'm not expecting much due to the loose spring guide in the rear. For the price, the gun is a good bargain and pretty decent on the inside. Thinking of getting some fiber washers to shim the trigger. The seal is what got me, how many of you have pulled one out of a bargain gun cherry with no nicks or cuts? Says a lot about the interior finish I think.

I'm looking forward to your next post.   I'm still saving up for the .25, hope to have enough soon to push the button.....

: The rear spring guide of the Falcon/Hatsan is.....
: cliffspot June 26, 2008, 01:43:48 PM
.........is integral with the rear receiver cap. It isn't a round cross section, like an x instead. Don't know if the shrink tubing will stay put (I didn't put shrink tube, another guy asked!) , but if it does...it'll take what's left of the twang out. Chronyed it today, started at 600fps, next shot was 643, 687, 720, 740. Seems I put a wee bit too much moly!! Actually, the gun was brand new and the seal had to reset itself. It will be fine. The cocking cycle is much smoother, Jorge said much improved. The firing cycle has less torque and more snap, like it has no time to twang! I think it will do 800 with the Webley Mosq pellets after about 100 or so shots. Tightened the side play of the trigger a little by squeezing the trigger housing closed a bit. haven't done accuracy testing, I gotta get the scope on it as my eyes suck with irons....need bifocals all ready! I like the scope, the mounts suck donkey!!!LOL Time will tell if it will last on this mule! When you tune your gun, I recommend polishing a strip from front to back between the "raised rings" on the piston. The piston central section looks like it came right off a lathe, all those rings. And the cocking arm has no separate foot, so it rides on those rings and feels funky. The stock amplifies the noise.

Yes, that stock does transmit the springnoise very well. I thought that I had a real loud Falcon until I had my wife shoot it and I stood a few feet behind her. I heard nothing like what I hear when my ear is up to that stock. It was actually very quiet and I was surprised and pleased at the same time. It was no louder than any of my other springers.
