After work this afternoon I decided to go G-hog hunting and relieve some stress. I haven't shot my 350 Magnum .22 in quite some time so I took her out of the gun safe and headed for the farm. It was a muggy, hot day but the G-hogs apparently liked the weather as they were out in force. As I parked my truck I looked out onto the farm and saw 5 G-hogs out in the fields munching away. All 5 of em ran back to their burrows as soon as I exited the truck, but I knew they'd come back out after a while.
I set up a ground blind 20 yards from one of the burrows that was down near the stream and woods that border the farm and patiently waited. My ground blind afforded me almost total cover with just enough clearance through the bushes to shoot so I knew I get a shot if I was just patient. Sure enough after 30 minutes of waiting my target emerged. It was a good sized adult G-hog, one that I had seen many times before. It made it's was slowly out of the burrow and started munching away on new green grass growing near the burrow. I waited until I had a broadside head shot,,,, placed the crosshairs of the 4x16x50 just behind the eye and fired. I immediately heard a loud "POP" as the RWS SHP slammed home. The G-hog slumped at the impact and never even twitched. I walked the G-hog back to my truck, laid it in the shade, then went back on the hunt for another one.
I hunted for another 2 hours and did see at least another dozen G-hogs,but never got another shot,, didn't matter though,,,,, I had a great time and got a future meal in the process. I'll be heading back in a day or so to continue the duel. :)
Snapped a pic of the kill lying next to the 350, hope ya like it.......

Tim,,, the reason I chose the 350 Magnum is simple,,,,,, after looking at your beautiful "chopper" lying next to that DOA raccoon I just had to break out my 350 and take her huntin :)

Good shooting and technique Jeff! Glad to see you using the 350 again.
I gotta find me a nice farm or field because my property is running low on g-hogs. I think I may have gotten the last one today ;)

Hi Jeff, looks like you and Harry are having a ball of a time nailing those G-Hogs.

nice shot jeff that 350 looks great. the G hog looks like he has had better days.hey Jeff how do you cook G hog.I had an uncle who used to eat it, but he died a long time ago. can't get recipe. JOHN

Hey John,,,,
The smaller (more tender) G-hogs I like to season and fry,, with some bacon OF COURSE :)
The older G-hogs make great stew and make an especially great G-hog pot roast !!! Just use your favorite recipe for stew or pot roast and simply substitute the G-hog meat. They are also good slowly smoked on the barbeque too....
