Here's a stock photo of my baby.

Goal: To have a usable and steady bipod for sniping small game and plinking targets.

Problem: From all I've heard, I really want to stay away from barrel mounting systems due to barrel harmonics affecting POI.

Question: Would it be economically possible/practical to mod the synthetic stock in such a way as to attach a bipod and how would one go about doing this?

I guess what I'm trying to say is this: I want a bipod, period. I'm just not sure what the best way to go about it would be. Barrel mounted bipods are cheap on eBay but I have been wondering if there isn't a better way and since my skills in gun smithing amount to absolute zero, having limited experience and limited resources, I thought I'd ask the experts. So, does anyone feel like theoretically/practically taking on the challenge?

Drill the mounting holes behind the slit cut out for the barrel. I personally think it would look bad and probably be difficult to the hold the rifle afterwards, but that's up to you. A barrel mounted bipod would probably be the way to go. Just make sure you sight-in your scope after the bipod is mounted.

Here ya go...Under $50.00 from walmart and works like a charm...

I'm hooked!!! Excellent idea and pic tutorial. Walmart is a couple of miles away from me...maybe I'll visit them today.

Davee...She's shooting fine but be aware the POI is vastly different when shooting prone to standing....Standing I have to give 2 mils holdover...Too dang hot to get out on the bench(20yrds) and see how she does in that position so ive been shooting out of my backroom to a target below a feeder bowl(15yrds)....Tree weasles are dying(literly) to get the sunflower seeds .....

can the same process be done to the big cat only with the mount further up on the stock, closer to the break joint?  and the screw doesn't affect the mechanics inside the stock?  doesn't scratch up on anything?  I like the look though...think I might have to do this to my big cat as well.

Bean not sure bout the Big Cat as I dont have one...We also mounted a bipod on a friends CDT Turbotuned G1 Extreme and it required the stud being shortened so it didnt touch the action inside the stock...The cocking action was not affected and his G1 plows paintballs and cuts string @20yrds all day long..

I was actually thinking more along the lines of someone designing individual legs that could be mounted with the screws that hold the stock to the action. But, this is a great solution, too!. Nice job! I'll be interested to know how she does over time.

Made up a set of Buffalo hunter's style cross sticks years ago that I like to use the dickens out of.
Unfortunately, they're a real pain in arse to move about in the wqoods from ground blind to ground blind.
Bipod seems like a very nice and convienant way to go.
I've a question to ask about them though.
How is the POI effected depending on surface used?
I mean like one setup on a dirt mound, next on a rock wall, then a fallen tree. Does the fimness of the surface rested on greatly effect where the impact is? I would think so, but maybe not. Would be great if it didn't. I'm always using whatever is available.
