Hey everyone. I've been a lurker for a while now, while I saved up for my first serious airgun. We have a Cabella's 25 miles away and when I was there the other night they had a 40% off Bargain Cave sale. I spotted a CFX that didn't have the scope with it. Looked it over good. After the sale I picked it up for $94. Brought it home and cleaned and inspected it good the next morning. WOW! What a gun. Other than the trigger I'm in love... can't believe the accuracy. Now I just need to email Charlie to fix the trigger issue.

I would like to do my own tune. Is there a good source for info on doing tunes. I want it done right but I want to do it myself as a learning experience. Plan to weld up a spring compressor next weekend.

I am also looking for suggestions for an inexpensive scope. I will be doing some plinking with my boys who have my old Daisy 880 and small game hunting.

Thanks in advance, and thanks for the great site.

Welcome aboard! You're going to love your CFX. Mine is a very well mannered shooter that puts the RWS superdomes and CPL's wherever the trigger breaks!

Hey Todd, Welcome to the GTA Forums !

You have found a GREAT PLACE TO BE !!!

Congratulations on your New CFX, and the GREAT deal that you received on it.

As for a scope, I like the Bushnell Banner 4-12X40mm AO. you can get then on sale for $99.99 from time to time. But scopes are an issue of personal preference, I like it because of its lightness and clarity.

Now that your a member of our airgun addicted family, I hope to see you here often !

Bill

Well I scored another deal!

Last night in Gander mountain I found a BSA 3-12x44 AO air rifle scope. It was a return or demo and was missing the turret caps and lens caps but for $23 those are easy enough to replace ;) I got it mounted with some cheap rings I had laying around last night. Hopefully this evening I will get a chance to get it sighted in.

My only issue with it is that the cross hairs are very light or almost out of focus in lowered light, ie. in my workshop last night, but the optics are crystal clear. I am stopping at Cabella's this afternoon to eye up some better mounts and see if they have any replacement caps.

Well... I didn't find any replacement caps or one piece scope mounts at Cabella's. My 10yr old son was with though and decided he was going to buy one of the 40% off bargain cave rifles so he picked up a big cat that was missing the scope for $49. While he was looking through the rifles I spotted a CP/Leupold 3-9x50 mil dot illuminated scope with the one piece leupold mount for $30.

I put the BSA on his big cat for him but I think I will have to get some different mounts. The 50mm scope went on the CFX late last night. Now we just need to get outside today and get the scopes zeroed in.

Last night I didn't notice any issues with the cross hairs on the BSA... it must have been my tired eyes working too late the other night.

Hi cfxdragon
How did you get on with the 50mm scope on the CFX?
I bought a6-24x50 scope and its to big for the CFX, cant get to the pellet tap easy(34cms long)

The Scope is about 35cm (14in.). I have about 1.5 to 1.75 in. clearance from the rear of the breach. You can remove the aluminum rail and mount the 1pc. mount directly to the dovetail on the receiver. This will move the scope rearward approximately .5 in. This would also solve the issue of the aluminum mount wearing at the stop pin.

See this:

and

http://www.pyramydair.com/blog/2008/01/gamo-cf-x-gas-spring-part-3.html

I am going to try removing the stop pin and drilling and tapping my 1pc. mount to have 5 screws to see if that will give enough clamping force to hold up to the recoil similar to the BKL 260 6 screw mount. This will allow me to keep the riser for extra clearance for the scope. If it doesn't hold I will remove the aluminum riser and the scope will have aprox. 2mm clearance but should be fine.

If you are using an add on stop behind your mount this would definitely cause the scope to be forward enough to be over top of the breach. My scope came with the Leapers Accushot 1pc. high mount:

I do think that the rifle is getting a bit heavy with the 50mm scope. It zeroed quite nicely with the gamo magnums. The groups would be outstanding if I could ever hold still ;-) I am going to pick up some crossman premier hollow points and pointed tip pellets this weekend to give a try. I really dislike the trigger but am getting more used to it and my groups are improving. I just find that I can not feel where the trigger is going to break... I really want one of charlie's triggers!

Dude, is that the Cabela's off Route 78 in PA??? Place is pretty cool and they have some really good deals now and again. They have a great pellet selection!!! I have a big old Center Point on my CFX. Had a problem with creep, just a touch. Spoke to the Tuna and he straightened me out!! Curious if your set up will hold, keep us informed!! And put a GRT on the gun, you will literally not believe the difference. It will be the best $32 you spend!! Simple to install. Good luck!!

No... it is the Cabella's in Praire du Chien, WI. It's not the biggest retail store but they have a HUGE distribution center attached to the back of the building so if it's not on the floor it's only a 10-15 minute wait.

The GRT is definitely in the plans for both guns, but will probably wait until my son has the money also ( he's 10 years old ) and do both of them at once. I am also thinking of saving up for the air-spring set up from Pyramid. I plan to do quite a bit of hunting and it would be nice not worrying one bit about how long the rifle has been cocked.

Has anyone noticed the dovetail mount on the bottom of the muzzle brake of the cfx?  I am thinking it would be a great place to mount a laser   8)

Since the cocking lever locks into it I don't know if you'll have the room. I've also not seen a laser that stays in adjustment after one shot. I returned about 5 to Cabela's!! My sons wanted them so bad, I tried. If you have better luck, let me know!! Good luck!!
