Did you buy that from a dealer new? If so return it.
CDT gave me a Hunter 440 a while back and it had cracks almost similar to yours. I bought a new stock for it. I took the old stock and have repaired it. I drilled 4 holes from the inside of stock and trigger area and pressed everything back together best I could and glued and doweled it together. Let is sit for a week and then stripped all the stain off the stock. It was another week process of sanding and prepping it for new stain.
I am not satisfied with it at all. I have just put on the third coat of polyurethane on it today after the stain had dried. It was a lengthy process with the stain, sanding with 400 grit paper and finally ended with 0000 steel wool. The overall looks is great but and I emphasise BUT..:) I can still see when I look very close the two hair line cracks. very faint but they are there. It will never be the same as before it got busted.
I will show you pics as soon as I am finished. I consider myself very good with wood and spent a great deal of time working on the stock but my high hopes of the cracks disapearing are only in my mind..:)
Maybe this guy you are taking it to is really good at woodwork and can fix it without those cracks showing afterwords.
Best of luck

Hello,
If you bought it new, I would return it immediately... I have a damage claim against U P S at this time... Best of luck...

Hey Bart
I finished my stock up this morning. here are some pics. The biggest crack is outlined. Could not make that one disapear. There were 4 cracks all total. All of them runing from fore stock back through trigger hole into the middle of the butt.

Well Gene, if it bugs you too much or you don't find a use for it, I will take it off your hands to put on my shadow. Looks like you did a good job to me. Thanks - Michael

Looks really good, Gene
You have a knack :)

You could have this stock in your hands and until he pointed out where the crack was, you would never have seen it. I was over to Gene's one day last week and he showed it to me with a rag in his hands and tears in his eyes cuz it wuz broke :0 :0 :0 I patted him on the back trying to cheer him up and told him with my head hanging down..."that's ok Gene".... :) :) :)

Huhm, man, that is one awful stock refinishing job Gene. I'd take that back to the guy who did that work for you and beat him over the head with it:) Gene, there are larger more obvious cracks in aircraft structures(as I'm sure you know) on airplanes that are still flying. Do yourself a favor and put the magnifying glass back on the shop bench, and step away from the bench. Now that you no longer have that magnifying glass in your hands you are free to put your gun back together and start shooting it again. If you shoot it long enough you will soon forget that there was ever a crack....but beware, that magnifying glass is a tricky devil, it will call you out..."Gene, Gene, Gene, ....come pick me up so you can examine that stock some more...Gene, Gene, Gene...don't ignore me, I am your friend, I want you to only have the most perfect gun...I'm looking out for you buddy". Ignore these pleas from the magnifying glass, it is only doing that to make you go mad. Or, if it really bothers you, of course you and I both know of someone who could most likely make you a new stock:) I wouldn't bother, that thing look no worse than the guns I have in my closet that get knocked over routinely while I'm looking for my clothes in the morning. You do good work, go enjoy it:)

Yea I know but I got the gun two extra magazines, scope and a hard case at a really good buy..It was off the classifieds...Technically I could buy a new stock and still have a fair deal.

Was it insured? If so put in a claim to UPS and make them buy you a new stock.

I know it is little consolation but USPS damaged it's first stock with me recently. Looks like I'll be sticking with DHL. Nothing short of excelent service out of them but not quite as convenient as USPS. UPS on the otherhand is the worst of them.
Sorry to hear you have encountered this as well.
