Greetings All.
My name is Kenny. I reside ~40 miles inland from SAV Georgia, run a sawmill with my Dad & brother, sip tequila and humanely dispatch as many squirrels as I have time to scope.
Prior to visiting this forum I thought 'Tuning' was something you did to guitars, radios or high performance automobile motors. CDT has a Gamo of mine in for tuning now ...take your time w/her Bob. She's a mess.
Anyway, UPS just delivered a brand new R9 Goldfinger combo to the sawmill with my name on it. She was in a Double gun case shipped from Straight Shooters and everything looks great on the outside...stock , barrel, scope, etc. all intact and no marring. As far as the inside components go I have no clue what condidtion they are in.
Here's where I'd like some helpful suggestions...or if you just want to say 'hi'.
First off, I intend to have this gun tuned. So WHO tunes Beeman R9s?
Assuming there is a tuner for the R9...would there be an advantage to sending him/her the older R9 first? (i have two R9s now)
Should I fire this new R9 or box her up for shipping to the tuner?

Welcome to the forum Kenny. I would say shoot the R9 as is, then when the spring breaks, or other problems occur, think about a tune. You should be just fine, as is, for many years.

Mike's advice is probably sound, and is exactly what I had intended to do, however . . .
J (3n003) was kind enough to help me out with a trigger problem I had with my R9GF. He also had a brand new R9 and took it apart to figure out how to help me fix mine! (What a great guy!) In the process, I had the opportunity to see J work on his brand new R9, replace a factory piston seal (which was severely scored and causing some dieseling), swap out the original spring for a Maccari spring, guide and tune kit, and properly lube the R9. This, mind you, was not a custom tune.
Then, when i shot and compared my brand new R9GF with J's lube tuned R9 with the new Maccari spring, guide and seal, well. . .
Let's just say I immediately invested in J's time and talent, and Jim Maccari's excellent spring, tune kit and lubes.
My R9GF and I are both much happier for having done so. Thanks J! Thanks Jim!

Hello Kenny and Welcome aboard!Congratulations on your R-9. Follow T-Cups direction when the time comes that you want to get your shooter fixed. But I will venture a guess that it probably is just fine as is.If you can chronagraph the gun and if it is up to spec's I'd say shoot it and enjoy. It is a very nice rifle.If it has a problem it will soon become apparant.Cross that bridge when you come to it.

As far as the Goldfinger,,,,, I concur...... shoot it as it is for now, they are normally fine shooters right outa the box. I have 2 of em also and they are fine shooting guns and I haven't had anything done to em yet and won't unless I need some other work done.
I'll be looking forward to your stories and pics on the "Hunting Gate" when you fire that Goldy up and start poppin tree rats......

Hi Ken and welcome to our little sandbox.
I agree with everybody else.... somethin' I never do...lol... Anyhow, the R-9 is one of those guns that "ifn' it ain't broke.. don't fix it" rule applies.They are as a rule, a real good gun right out of the box.

First and foremost Welcome to the GTA Kenny!! and now Congrats on the new shooter.. what caliber did you get it in? I am sure you are going to enjoy it tuned or not.
make sure to post some pics of the new R9 in the airgun gate and any of it's kills in the hunting gate... can you tell we like pictures around here?

Thanks to everyone for the sage advice and warm welcome. Speaking of warm, I am covered in perspiration from a brief recon mission from the side porch.
I know somethimes vendors give us the short end of the stick when they can, but the SS gunsmith did an excellent job sighting in this rifle. I'll put some more rounds through her when it's not so dog gone hot and the mosquitos have abated, but if the 1st two are any indication she's dead on at 31 yards. The trigger engages perfect for me.

If this ^ works, these are the first two rounds fired from the R9, 31 yards w/Beeman Sliver Sting .20 caliber pellets. I have some Ram Jets on the way that I want to try.

Here is a pic of the new R9 w/tags in place, along with the (bottom - top) .177 Beeman, .22 SLR98, .20 R9, .20 R9 GF, RWS 54, .177 Gamo CFX and a CO2 .177 30 shot Beretta.
I am considering having the older R9 tuned. Any suggestions on who to contact?

Welcome to the GTA. I can see from the pic that you're infected, diseased, even. I'm also afflicted and also live in GA. Metro ATL in fact. I have an R1 that I bought used and it's still a great shooter. It's the only springer I have that I plan on keeping untuned for now. I'd love to have an R9GF and an R1 Double Gold. I must admit that I'm a bit fanatical about Weihrauch airguns. They're just so finely made, and such good shooters. Now If I could come up with a couple or three grand to buy an R9, HW77 or 97, an HW100T and an R7.
BTW, I'd shoot it and enjoy it.
