: Need gunsmith screwdriver set advice
: tedshred July 14, 2008, 07:19:41 AM
Hi all,
I'm done using my standard tools to work on my airguns. Already destroyed one head, don't want to do that again. Can you guys recommend a decent gunsmith screwdriver set? Something under $50.00?

Thanks

Hey Ted, Wheeler Engineering and B-Square both make a quality set. Check the Midway site for info.

I have a B square set--there are a couple attachments that I use frequently but it is far from being all encompassing. I think Beeman also markets one. I think the hex heads could be better from a size standpoint. i guess what I am saying is that it has not reduced the need for additional allen keys.

Midsouth Shooters Supply has a few sets:

I ordered a LE hollow handle and a few bits from Brownells for the large hinge bolt on my HW guns after I buggered up my R1. At least Beeman was quick to send me a new bolt.

Ted

I've got the B-SQUARE PROFESSIONAL GUNSMITH SCREWDRIVER SET 32 PIECES and it is good but I'm with John,  it doesn't have everything you need.  I do like the magnetic feature, I've stopped dropping screws.

This one looks pretty complete. Anybody have one of these?

Forgot-I do like the magnetic feature. Sometimes it seems a little too strong but the magnet is a good feature. Even with the B sq driver set my collection of allen keys keeps growing. The guy with the biggest pile of allen keys wins.

That one looks pretty good. If I did not have one I would probably go for that one. Not sure if it is magnetic which I like on the B sq.

mag drivers create problems..they magnitize stuff..not good in airgun relationships.i prefer the  old skool way.
start by hand finish with non mag driver.
What kind of problems, in air guns can be expected using magnetic tools?

I bought the Chapman 8900 gunsmith set and the G pack to supplement it. The g pack has seven metric allens as well as some other standard sizes. Those two sets have taken care of most of my needs except when the CFX came to town and then I had to buy a torx key set from Home Depot. I found some really nice standard/metric allen sets at of all places...Walmart. I bought the BSquare set as well, but that just duplicated what I had already.

Another thing that is unavoidable is that sometimes the screw is in real deep, and the short stubby little bits wont reach down far enough. Thats when the hex/torx keysets come in handy, and just regular screwdrivers too.
