: Widdling on a TF stock
: shadowJuly 14, 2008, 01:06:03 PM
Nothing fancy just removing the wood that's in the way.:) Splash aka Mike's B3 stock which is a fine peice of shaped lumber and he has sent out as a passaround shooter, I am injoying it's fine lines right now. Mike's fine work inspired me to wade into this TF34 stock and reshape the grip for a southpaw and cheekrest along with some extra shaping jst for the heck of it.:) It's been a little while since I threw some shape to wood but the Dremal is holding up well hehehe and does a good job for detail work and then sand, sand, and sand. The TF34 action is being replaced by one of my tuned B3's. Ed

: Sorry Ed

I didn't mean to get you started on another project. Looks like your doin fine though and the grip has a nice shape to work with. Trust me the peice of wood that I added to that B-3, was a B. Have fun Buddy and I'm looking forward to the end result. All you gotta do is remove what don't need to be there, hehe.

Thank's guys , Mike's shooter got my sawdust kicked up hehehe. Mike I thought I could see what I can do with the existing wood on it and see where that go's but it sure feel's much better to hold. My friend here gave me a small block of Mahogany and I might do some inlaying with it. Ed

Did some more widdling today, grip area and forstock, think it will finish up nicely and the tuned B3 sit's in it snug as a bug. The B that's going in here is a fresh tune......well after a month of pampering every moving part on her. I slid her into the stock and tightened her up and ran her through the chrony to see if I did any good. I pampered her great but was fooled by how quite she was hehehe, 810fps first five shot's but I knew she would drop some. After forty round's through her she settled down to 753fps. I just love tuning these little CHINA shooter's hehehe. After the chrony I pulled her back out and went back to widdling. I wanted to headout with my good friend Mike's sweet B3 for a hunt but the rain set in and bummed me out so I injoyed her inside at my range, not the same though. Pic of today's widdling. Ed

Ive been doing a little whittling myself. I've been working on my Storm XT's stock. I will post pics when im done. I think im just going to whittle out a few places where my body makes contact, but i may throw in a design. Im doing all the work with my old timer. Its a challenge, but im up to it.

Look forward to seeing your stock Brody, keep us updated on your progress. Ed

Ed, depending on what kind of finish you have planned, you may want to sand the rest of the stock, before you go much further. If your planning a camo, then it's not a problem, but if you plan on staining, then when you sand the rest, it will round off the lines, you have made. Just something to think about. And I'm still waiting to see them critters, that you've blinded, hehe.

Yes if you can toss up a pic or two, I try to keep any design's etc. flowing with the stock myself and make it grip friendly. Ed

Yes buddy I'm going to sand the whole stock no camo on this one since the grain look's good. The old stain on it let me know how my reshaping was coming along and will be removed. I'm ready to go hunting with your sweet baby if the rain would let up. had a break for a hour yesterday, got ready to head out and sure enough more rain. The Airgun God's must be on strike lol. Ed

Im thinking more along the lines of a logo, im not that talented, and plus im doing all the work with my pocket knife.

: SplashJuly 21, 2008, 02:16:58 AM
Brody, nothing wrong with using a pocket knife, I do most of my carving with a Buck 110.

Sketch out some idea's on paper with a outline of the grip.:) I used a ol pencel to draw out the lines on the stock and went from there. If I didn't like it I would move the lines around until it looked good to me, it all the stock sketching get's removed in the end during sanding. Do you have a idea of the logo you want there?. Ed

If anyone needs to know, a wood plane works great for removing a cheekpiece. I'm a lefty and have to do this to any stock I work on. Ill leave the high comb, usually, but not the cheekpiece. Half the time, it gets in my way, even when I shoot right handed.

I will post pics of what i have in a little while. I havent done much else, as i have been really busy of late. But i think im going to put a Spade on there like the Ace of Spades seeing as thats the death card, and the gun will cas a lot of death(hopefully lol).

Getting down to the fine sanding on the stock and worked on a custom cocking handle which form's to the bottom of the barrel. Layed the action in to check the fit and get a idea how she look's in the stock and wrapping my mind around a wood trigger guard. Sand, sand, sand. Ed
