: Whisper Deluxe scope - how is it?
: Jerrycup July 19, 2008, 10:49:46 AM
I have a Whisper Deluxe on the way. From the photos, looks like the included scope is different (better) than that supplied with the std Whisper.

Anyway, is this a decent scope and mount? Comparable say to the Centerpoint Adventure 3-9x40? (since I have one of these)?

thanks,

J

Nope. The scope and mount that came with my deluxe are weak. I still have the mount on the whisper, but got one of those Centerpoints from Wally World. That scope works great. The mount is holding up for now. :emoticon:

Bought a Whisper last year before there was a standard and deluxe version. MY standard came with a BSA 3x40 AO. I did replace the mount with an Accushot 1 piece which is much better. I do have a Centerpoint on it as suggested. Being a long scope I can get it to sit closer to my eye which works for me.

Thanks for the comments, Dan and John...
My brother is sending me a deluxe as a birthday gift, tuned. He understood the included scope was OK. Apparently it's a 3-9x40 now.

You can't quite tell the brand, but it's shown on a 1 pc mount.
I suppose I should wait and see.
I have the CenterPoint CP394AORG on a B-26 and it's good - most comments are that it's hard to beat for $70. I can A-B and see, so I guess I should be patient.

Jerry:
Will check with CDT before I head home this afternoon.  The Whisper Deluxe may be ready.  I will look in the box again and tell you the particulars of the scope.  The picture looks kinda like a BSA, but certainly not sure of that.  JoeCuz wasn't specific, but said the Deluxe combo scope was decent.

I too bought a whisper about 6 months ago, and I ended up with the regular gamo scope.

it was garbage. couldn't get it to focus on anything no matter what I did.

I replaced it with the crosman 4 x 32 and it works perfectly. Still need a better mount.........working on building my own.

Jerry, bought mine about 3 months ago. Regular Gamo scope that was terrible. I got an Accushot one piece and a 4-16x40 Center Point. Can't ask for more!! Had the Tuna tune it, and the thing is a true tack driver!! After the tune, I gained just about 200 fps, and the thing shoots, and cocks much smoother and quieter!! Hope this shelps. Good luck with it bro!!

I guess I got lucky, the Whisper I bought at Gander came with a Gamo Sporter 3-9X40mm scope and Gamo mounts. They're both holding up after 1000+ shots. Bought in March 2008.

Stan, that is the first time I heard that. I bought 2 of them, they had the same weak scopes on them. Hard to zero, and wouldn't hold it. You got lucky and saved a couple of bucks bro!!

It's got the Gamo logo on the turret... betcha it's this: http://www.gamousa.com//Catalog.aspx?Product=294 without the bells and whistles.

I'd anticipate replacing it, along with an Accushot one-piece mount.

Just went through my own Gamo scope problems. Wish they'd just sell he rifles without. Save us some trouble.

Have fun, gonna be a blast having that rifle!

 Yours,
 Parks

And mine is clear too...no fuzziness on the edge of the scope no matter which magnification. I'll see if the scope can last up to 2000 or 3000 shots.

Ikeep a record of all the shots I take on each air gun...+ or - 10 shots....I like to see how long a spring or scope lasts in/on each gun.

Wow...didn't last up to 100 shots...that's disgusting. I know scopes that come in a "package" are usually cheapies...but come on....they should at least be good up to 400 - 500 shots.

Answering my own question...

It's really cheesy looking/feeling. The mount is fine. Had to back the diopter adj about 15 turns to where the thread taper was almost loose. The lock ring did tighten it, exposing nearly  a 1/4 inch of thread. Seemed sharp enough, but the reticle is not mil dot, and the fine crosshairs did not come from any frog. Pretty coarse. The zoom adj ring takes a lot of torque, and isn't smooth. No parallax adj. The elevation and windage adjustments have threaded covers, and the clicks seem to move the aimpoint about ten times the rating (1/4 in at 100 yds).

Then after mounting I could not hit a group as tight as the first ten shots out of the box with open sights.

I have a CenterPoint Adventure 3-9 x 40 scope on my B-26, and it's better in all respects. A lot clearer and it has held great for about 1,000 rounds of .22.

I think I can use the mount. Standardizing on one model for both rifles sounds smart.

We ought to send these cheap things back to Gamo USA and ask for something that works with a spring air rifle. Humph.

Jerry listen to someone that went through this twice!! Dump the scope and the mount!!! Accushot has a nice one that will hold up fine for about $15. With a nice fat stop screw.

I ordered two accushot mounts from Optics Planet a week ago and they arrived in Five days, not bad. One for my Whisper and the other for my Talon-Fastlane that I dont have YET! :emoticon:
