I'm waiting for you, CAPT. TALON!!!!!!

jeff do you think it is ok to eat these summer time rabbits.I have them cleaned and ready to stew. JOHN
-
Perfectly good to eat :)
I've eaten plenty of summertime rabbits. Sometimes you may find what appears to be a lump under the skin and when you skin it you will find a "botfly" larvae there. It's a parasite that grows under the rabbits skin in the summer and even though it's one of the ugliest creatures you'll ever see it has absolutely no impact on the edibility of the meat. If you should find a rabbit with a botfly larvae in it just cut out the meat around the larvae and the rest of the meat is fine.
The chances of finding a botfly larvae on a rabbit is really pretty small, I've only found a couple in my lifetime and I shoot alot of rabbit, but I figured I'd mention it just in case you should run across such a rabbit.
As you skin them and clean them just check them as you would the ones you shoot in the winter, especially the liver,,, but summertime rabbits are fine to eat and taste as good as the winter ones.
Cook em and chow down... :)
