In relation to my previous post I have worked out how to resize a photo on my home computer (at least i think I have ) so here goes. I shot these two rats within half an hour of each other. Both head shots from 15mtrs with my gamo 440. This is where they lay when I took the photo. I have to tie up my Jack Russel as he destroys any rat the minute it hits the ground.

Excellent rodent control, too. (http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif)

If I wing one and it is missing in action, I unclip him he just goes crazy. He found one rat I had given up on the other night, he also has full on attacked fully grown wild pigs, it knows no fear.

A Jack Russel once took a bite out of my old Alsatian's testicles! David and Goliath. Can you shoot those wild pigs? They look nice enough to eat :)

I had a boss that got into falconry big time, ended up setting up his own Jack Russell kennel. Falconers use them to flush game for the birds, but the dogs get more game than the birds :-). Single minded little killers. Later.

I do shoot the pigs but with a bow. Taste ok too. My Jack russell killed a possum that my wife was feeding so he is not always popular, If they were bigger the world would be in trouble. I am loving the Rat hunting. They are about the only airgun game where I am from untill i can get one of those big bore guns - hopefully one day

Nice shooting Rob, it's pretty challenging to shoot them little targets. Plus your cleaning up your property of these dirty little critters. Good job and nice pic, keep up the good work :)
make sure you wash up real good too if you touch them...lol

Good shooting and nice pic. Include the gun in it next time if you can.
What I do is set the camera to 640x480 resolution so the pics are smaller in size (like 70-90KB jpegs). They come out just like yours and fit perfectly in the message screen without panning over.. Try it. I find it easier and much faster to adjust the camera, than re-sizing the pics with Photoshop or other software. It's only like 2 clicks of a button on my Canon Powershot.
Now if we can only teach Tim how to do that with his camera.. :-) I need a 30" extra-wide screen to view his pics! :)

I think your dog could use some training. Going after an animal 10X its size and weight is not normal and he shouldn't be going after livestock anyway. We had a german shepherd when I was a kid that used to go after horses, donkeys, tried to bite goats and sheep in the throat, pigs, you name it.. every time we went to the country or were at my uncles or grandfather's farm. A mule kicked her and almost killed her. The dog was out of control and a danger to itself. One guy attempted to shoot it because it was trying to bite one of his sheep that had strayed from a small flock he had.
My dad decided to put it in obedience training not because of that but because the dog killed a neighbor's cat and she threatened to sue. He 'd visit the dog at the training facility and train with it almost every day for about 2-3 weeks. The dog's manners were much improved when we got it back. Very obidient and respectful of everyone and everything and much more pleasureable to have around. Still a little protective of us (the children and especially my sister that was 5-6 at the time, I was about 11) but not over-protective like before when she would growl and snap her jaws at any stranger that came within 15ft of us.

Thanks for the support and advice guys, this is another one I got with the gamo 440. my shoting distance is only 15 mtrs but at least I don't miss too often.
-
You've got fat rats in your yard!!!! At least they make an easier target heh heh. Excellent shooting at 15 meters.
-
good shootin rob looks like your havin fun. nice gun,are you shootin at night? John
-
Thanks John,
I am shooting at night, most rats appear late at night usually after 12. I only have a cheap scope and am looking forward to upgrading to a better one. I have ordered an acushot single mount from the good old USA but a $16 scope mount ends up costing me over $80 by the time I pay postage. I do not have a good selection of airgun stuff where I live, I could not find a single place in Australia which stocks crosman premier lights or JSB exacts and to get a box of each sent to my home from USA will cost me about $90. I am stuck with what is available here and I use Beeman FTS (which are quite good) and for my close range rat hunting I use Meisterkugelen match .177. I can get some crow magnum too. I have now shot six rats in about two weeks. four females and one male and one that was not able to be identified as my Jack Russell found it first..

The best rat is a dead rat,...and a pair is even better!! Great Job Rob!!!! tjk
