I'm planning on removing the front sight and putting a brake on. I've seen photos of the 34 front (the one with the globe sight) and it looks like it needs to be filed/cut in order for a brake to fit over it. Is the Panthers front end the same? Also, would anyone happen to know the exact diameter of the barrel? Thanks guys...

I removed the sight yesterday and it doesn't look like any shaping is needed in order for a brake to slide on. Based on some past threads here I was expecting the front sight to require some work to tap off, but one tap sent it flying across the room. Is there anyone here with a Panther who can give me the closest approximate diameter of the barrel? Thanks!

If I was to try to remove the front sight before cutting anything I would clamp the barrel in a vise padding it with leather or an old leather work glove to protect the finish on the barrel and use either a piece of ( wood, aluminum, or brass ) block as a drift to drive the sight off the barrel. I would think it was pressed on .I would work around the barrel (( side to side )) a little at a time tapping lightly to see if it moves . You need to look to make sure their are no pins, set screws or any fastners holding it first. howie PS their is one other thing if you have a open end wrench that fits the barrel dia. and will set against the shoulder of the sight it could work as a drift too putting equal pressure on both sides as you drive the sight off.

Hi Jay,
I'm leaving the opens on my .22 Panther for a while, so I didn't take the front sight off, but from right behind the front sight all the way down the barrel(doesn't seem to be tapered at all) mine is .630-.632 inches.
.630 inches = 16.00200 millimeters, so it looks like a standard 16mm brake would work just fine.
