Like this one in the resting squirrel pic.:) It's about $12.00 in most hunting stores and work's great as shown. Instruction's on the box but all I've ever done was mimic the nutter which get's all worked up because there's another on his turf. I start with a couple call's without covering the open end, wait for response and follow with some covered low chatter. Once you get the hang of it they'll come just keep your eye's peeled cause they'll try to sneak in sometime's. Ed

Tommy, You're just a "smarty-pants"!!! LOL's yes nothing works better than a good bait to draw them in! Thanks for the tip Shadow, been thinkin about gettin one for this up-comming season. I'd like to try one of those electric crow-calls too,....Crow breast cabobs on the grill?!?!?! I found a site on-line that has recipes for just about anything, and the crow doesn't seem much different than dove. We got plenty round here too. Maybe we ought to have a "cook-book gate" on the GTA!!!!! Thomas

I have the same squirrel call as Shadow and it works great. I also picked up a different kind this past season, I'll post a pic of it later, and it a great call also. The new call I got is actually 2 calls in one as you can also make the very useful young squirrel panic call. The other thing it does is it has a feature where if you shake it quickly it actually perfectly mimics the "chatter" call.
There are plenty of times I've spotted squirrels that were out of range or moving off in the opposite direction and when I start calling they stop and start working their way towards me. Doesn't work all the time but it does work most of the time. Besides giving you more shots at game it also, at least for me,,,, adds to the challenge and enjoyment of the hunt.....
OH,, I forgot to add,,,,, last year after reading some articles on eating crows I gave them a try. I have to say,,,,, they were very good. I'll be eating them again if and when I bag some more :)

Squirrel season in Oklahoma is May 15th-January 31st..I've been a couple times this year already and lookin to go back soon. Especially now that I have my B30 just how I want it. However, I've never used a squirrel call..just used the stalking technique instead. Wonder if I should give this a try?
-
Wes,,,, get a call and give it a try,,,,, you won't be sorry !! Besides the fact that it will bring more squirrels into the sights of your rifle it also helps to increase the enjoyment of the hunt. Just like turkey hunting,,,,, there's just something cool about "talking" with the game your after and trying to coax it into a shooting solution :)

Lol, I think I'll pick one up the next time I go to an outdoor store...that is, of course, if I can keep my hands off of another air gun.

You need to be careful, don’t overdo it. There is something in the craw meat that may start long lasting diarrhea. Don’t remember where I read it.

Really Jeff,...a shooting solution?!?!?! that's too funny! LMAO. Thomas

Jeff, please post a pic or some info on that 2nd squirrel call you got. I haven't had to use one yet as the squirrels all seemed to like hanging out or passing through my back yard last year, but I 'll probably need it this winter after I diminish their #'s again. I 'll have to call the ones from the next block over! :-)

I believe the one I have is the one Jeff speaks of. It has a little hole on the side with another little squeaker in that hole to use for distress calls. I still haven't gotten the hang of using this thing and it doesn't seem to phase the squirrels around here. Maybe someone can upload a video/audio on using one of these things? Though sunflower seeds work great for me, I'd really like to know how to properly use this thing. I do know my dog loves the sound of this and I've been using it as a recall device for her.

Interesting discussion! What im looking for is a brand and model # Thanks Mark

I'm at work right now and won't be home until 11 pm but I'll take a pic of tonight at post it. It really is a nice call and has worked exceptionally well for me. The distress call is a very useful call and definitely get the attention of squirrels in the area if used correctly. When using the distress call sometimes it helps to shake some branches or small saplings,,, the theory is that it simulates the sounds created during the struggle that ensues when a predator first grabs a squirrel. Sounds weird but it truly does work.....
