Came home from work this afternoon and saw 2 more large holes dug into my new sod, stupid tree rats are at it again :(
Decided to take up a sniping position in the back yard and meter out some justice :)
Got changed and went into my workshop to pick out a gun. Hmm,, what to pick?? Then it hit me,,,, the home tuned .177 Fast Deer needed a notch on her stock, so I gingerly took her out of the gun safe and filled the pellet pouch on my hunting vest with some Beeman Silver Bears. I had the little rifle sighted in shooting beautiful groups so I knew she was up to the task. Went into the backyard and took a few shots at some of my spinner targets to make sure the scope was still on. Each shot was met with a beautiful "PA - TING" and a spinning target :) I was ready...... I took up a concealed position in the corner of the yard and waited......
Took about 30 minutes but I finally saw movement in one of my large oak trees about 1/2 way up the tree. Yup, there he was, a tree rat that had been hiding out by clinging closely to a thick branch. The distance was 25 yards. I waited until he relaxed, took a sitting position and began grooming his tail. Put the crosshairs of the GAMO 4x32 in between his ear and eye and gently squeezed the trigger. The Fast Deer fired and the pellet slammed home with a "POP". The tree rat quivered for a second then rolled off the branch and hit the ground. Did a 10 second death dance and expired. One sod raider down, several more to be eliminated :)
Before skinning him took a couple of pics to document the rifles first kill and to share with my GTA huntin buddies :)
If you look close you can see the hole from the pellet 1/2 way between the eye and ear. :)

Man you are my Varminting Hero!!

Congrats on your rifle's first kill Jeff! You sure have her dialed in nicely. Pics don't lie :-)
You guys are not helping my temptation to start shooting tree rats in the absensce of g-hogs, but my awareness of the "difficult" neighbor next door, overcomes my urge to put the crosshairs on them.

Way to go Jeff. Those Silver Bears really get the job done don't they?!?!?! The planets most have aligned somewhere, because Miss D took her first kill today in my back yard!! Got that thing soakin' in salt water tonight, tommorrow it's to the freezer!!! Very nice shooting!! tjk(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif)

As always Jeff,, great acount of your hunt & AWSOME pics.!! That Fast Deer looks a little like my QB 88 I bought from Howie,, are they symaler? (I dont know much about them there guns) My Qb 88 shoots cp,s (7.9 177) @ just over 600 fps. From what little I do know,,, I doubt that stock looked that "Purdy & Shiney" when you first got it,, nice work Jeff!! Tim.

Thanks Tim,,,,,,, actually that's the "deer" I bought from Best Airgun for $20 bucks and the stock was pretty much just like that outa the box. All I ever did to the stock was just wipe it down nicely with a silicone gun cloth after each use, which I do for all my rifles :)
I've never had a QB-88 so I don't really know if they are similar, although they may be. I did a tune on this deer when I got it and the little rifle shoots really nice. I wanted it for a handy backyard game getter and she turned out perfect for the job :)

Anyone else but me notice that, that particular nutter is frikkin HUGE!

Great shooting Jeff!! the silver bear difintiely found its mark :) Way to keep them tree rats off your lawn. The fast deer looks proud resting over it's first kill.
-
nice shootin Jeff every time I see that fast deer makes me want one.
-
Thanks,,,,, that "deer" is a nice little shooter. I've made a cushioned bed for it underneath my trucks rear seat so I can make her my "truck gun" :)
and she's deadly at the closer ranges......
