: Shadow's Predator report
: shadow August 31, 2008, 01:42:52 AM
If there's any doubt about what a Predator can take down I hope this put's it to rest.:) For the last two night's I've had a garbage can raider and I knew who he was. I spent the day yesterday double checking everything on my baby, resighting her in and fresh batteries in the newly mounted lamp. Evening came and around 11:00pm I was planted on my deck, Predator loaded and java flowing. Two hour's passed with nothing but several cat's making their nightly round's so I started to get up to get a fresh cup when the sound of my garbage can lid froze me. Slowly I moved up next to the side of the house and popped the safety off and peered around the corner to see a outline of him in the moonlight hanging off the side of my can. I moved out from behind the wall and raised the Sporter up and lit him up with the lamp. That's all it took, he dropped from the can and ran for the tree's out back with me in hot pursuit. My only thought was hoping that he would seek safety in a tree and he did as he hi-tailed up the first one that he came too. I stopped my pursuit and watched as he continued up to about thirty foot and settled in on a limb. I backed myself out into the clearing and setup for a clean shot, lamp lighting him up, crosshair's placed on the fusebox, Predator sent to do it's dirty work. The sound of a solid hit was music to my ear's as I watched him shake his head like it was on fire but the direct hit to the fusebox was to much and he dropped to the earth with a very loud "THUMP"!. I quickly loaded another and layed back watching him thrash for about 20 second's then give into the Predator's medication. I trust no varment under these conditons as I slowly made my way to him, shooter raised and ready for anything. Six foot out I grabbed a downed limb and gave a couple "are you awake still jab's" with my baby in the other hand ready to strike again, he was finished. I gloved up and grabbed the bandit and headed back to the house to wait for daylight to get a pic for you all. Once again the Predator has found it's mark and performed like the killer that it is, he has been skinned for the hide and the meat will be a nice change from squirrel hehehe and I'm getting back to my hunting Zen.:) Ed

Superb shooting Ed! Proof once again that a well placed shot from a competent hunter is what counts, not a super magnum rifle......... Glad to see your Zen is back in place!

Thank's Peak:) and at times it's not about the power but the placement that count's oh and that nasty red tipped pellet hehe. Ed

Nice shooting, Ed, which of your "babies" was that?  And when are you going to get a PCP :-)?  Stephanie has crossed over, I think you're one of the last die hards.  Got rid of my last Talon, now I have an FX Cyclone on the way.  .177 by the way, I've finally realized I don't need .22 for the shooting I do, although I will miss the larger pellets, especially on those fumble fingered days.  Later.

Thank's Dave, the shooter is my tuned B26 Sporter.177. I gess I'm just old school, something about successfully hunting with a springpowered shooter that still draw's me in. I dig you all with your DARK SIDE ! babies but I never felt the pull myself. I'll just keep cocking em and keeping up the best that I can lol. I do have several CO2's, My Dragon tuned QB78 DELUXE, she's sweet and the 2240 pistola. Would that be like the "GRAY SIDE" LOL. Ed

I'll second that BBQ coon sounds mighty tasty

What do you think of the add on laser and light?
: RE: Shadow's Predator report
: shadow August 31, 2008, 02:36:02 AM
Several of my babies are setup with the laser light combo and work great. This one just has the lamp mounted but the combo is a great setup for those night hunt's. Ed

Geez, nice shootin' in the dark, even with the light!
I have not broken the Predators out yet, but after some projects are completed I am going to have to give them a try. I heard some doubt about their long range accuracy, but yours seem to work at 30 pretty well!
: BEAUTIFUL....JUST BEAUTIFUL
: gamo2hammerli August 31, 2008, 02:51:11 AM
..about your hunting episode....B26, photo, racoon and accurate shooting. How much $$$ do you think you can get for that nice pelt? And I'm sure the bandit will taste great!!!! You sure you don't want to mount the racoon? If I ever shoot a fox, big bunnyor racoon I'll have them mounted if they have a nice coat....even a nice skunk.

Thank's Dave and Stanley, don't know what hides go for these day's but it will look good stretched out on my shop wall.:) I've taken P-dog's 40+ yard's out with the Predator's , they have alway's been accurate in my babies. Ed

Awesome racoon & shooting Ed!  Very nice pic too.  Nothing can escape you and your B26!  I like it that it's a Diana 350 clone :-)

Now I have to get me a lamp or strong flashlight for my Condor so I can dispatch the possom that's been coming around.  How did you mount that?  I can't tell from the pic.  I guess in my case I have 11mm dove tail rails all along the Condor, even under the frame so it shouldn't be a problem.  I just need to find the right one.

Excellent shooting buddy  !!   Beautiful pic as well.   I agree with the others,,,, you and that rifle are a deadly duo,,,, but then you and any rifle, or pistol, are a deadly duo  :)

Enjoy that raccoon meat  :)

Thank's hunt buddies:), Harry the lamp setup is off my TAC1. It's a scope mount with a attachment on top which the lamp mount's to. Ed

: daved August 31, 2008, 06:20:29 AM
Uh, Harry, not to be too picky, but the B26 is an R9 clone, not a 350 copy :-).  Regarding the lamp issue for your Condor, I had my Talon set up with a light I got at the local Home Depot, liked it so much I have a second one on my belt as I type this.  It's an LED Lenser by Coast something or other, supposed to be 65 lumens, and I believe it.  Fits standard 1" scope rings, and will light things up well enough to be able to see the cross hairs on a target 40 yards away.  Cost was about $40, but I think it's worth it.  Here's a pic of the Talon with the light mounted.  Later.

very nice shootin Ed.. I have a big possum that gets my blue heelers wound up at night..  I went out one evening and they had him cornered and were tag teamin his asss.. I took the webly pistol out and shot him in the head from 5 feet away.. He cocked his head sideways and just gave me a mean look.. the pellet bounced off... 3 more shots and the same results.. I finally put the dogs in the house and let him stagger off with a headache...

If I would have had polymags then, I think I could have penetrated his skull.. he was about 20+ lbs.

Thank's Randall and those country rat's are darn tough customer's but atleast you gave him a knot on his skullcap.:) Best bet is to put one of those redtipped killer's into his eyesocket with that pistola, may have to followup with another cause they like to play possum hehe. Ed

Good to see you back on the hunt. Ever think of making it a hat? Had one for my son when he was a lot smaller. I think I was the only one who liked it.

Hey Shadow, do you use pressure switches for the light or just the push button? I cant get used to the switches, and may just put the buttons back on my Varmint hunter.
: Re: Shadow's Predator report
: shadow September 08, 2008, 11:13:59 PM
Vinny, for the lamp I use a push button and for the laser I use a pressure switch. Ed

I'm beginning to think that you and a couple others are spoiling us. I've found myself respectfully unsurprised by your recent jaunts.

I think you need to take up something like.....trains. Ya! Trains. It'll give us opportunists a chance to look good. (heheheh.)

Fantastic shooting yet again.
