take my advice do not do your first home tune on that gun buy a b-3 or something for $20.00 just in case anything happens I repeat do not attempt on that gun I just do not want you to make a mistake on a gun like that especially because it is the first time you are attempting a tune

Dave, I'm gonna have to agree with Trek, on this one. Get a B-3, or something else cheap, practice first and have fun.

I third the motion! I was able to do my first tune with no MAJOR mishaps because of my many years of auto and engine work. It is so easy to screw something up in these guns and you wouldn't want to mess that gun up as it maybe hard to get parts.

A quest would work, but it will be harder on the back pocket, if anything goes wrong. You could always sell whatever you get, to practice on, after your though.

Make sure you got a 6 pack in the fridge! And start READING! Here's a start: http://www.airguninfo.com/repairs.shtml
Look under Beeman on the right side of the page and "Tuning the R7" , it gives you the basics of a springer tune. This has a lot of info too:

the pipe is 3/4 black pipe, the clamps are 3/4.
you can get both at Lowe's or a hardware store.

Take Fix's advice, make sure you have a goo Spring Compressor, I made my own and forgot to add a safty strap to hold the barrel in place, long story short, I took out a new 22 inch flat screen on my computer, the power chamber shifted and off went the spring across the garage, 25 feet away there went the screen. First and last time that will happen added a safty strap to make sure all is held in place, I also learned to put a towel/ cloth over the end to prevent it from going to far should it slip. Tunes came out great for 1st & 2nd tunes, flat screen lost. Good thing no one was standing in front of it, my wife came out to see what I was doing, and for a moment could not understand when I yelled at her not to stand where she was and to get out of the way, pointed to the screen and she moved, no more questions, the spring can an will but a real bad hurt on someone or something. Use Caution while working with the spring.

Sorry to hear about your screen Brian. Thank you for posting about it though, it's good for everyone to see what can happen.

I'm right there with you compadre,

I have no springers yet but if I did have a nice one like yours would start removing metal from the b3 or similar. So I'll be watching what you do and probably do that for my first springer:)
