: My new and first Condor.
: tonaka November 10, 2008, 02:08:04 PM
I have ordered Condor from Tony a some time ago and here it is!!! FedEx truck brought me this long waited rifle. I ordered shroud and Tony custom made hammer for this beauty. It shoots so hard I can't believe it. I shot it in the garage without the shroud and I had noise ringing in my ears for long time. I did it to see the difference with the shroud. I put it on and it is very quiet. I experemented with different pellets and I think only Eun Jins are not going supersonic. I do not have a chrony but Eun Jins are very quiet but Kodiaks are kind of louder. Then I put the JSB 14.3 gr. and I heard very loud crack- yep.. supersonic.
I knew I am going to shoot it a lot so I figured I will buy CO2 adapter and use paintball tank. It work fine and I shot a lot of rounds with lighter pellets.
I actually very happy with this gun so far. I heard different reviews about it some good some not but I personally really love it. I hope in the near future I will get .25 caliber barrel.
Sorry for the poor quality of the pictures.

It looks good to me . I have one that is suppose to be delivered tomorrow . A stocker from P.A. I ordered the micro tank with mine so I would not have to deal with CO 2 . Keep us informed as to how it shoots .Marvin

I have a talon tuned by Tony. That shroud looks awfull familiar. Amazing how quiet they are with the shroud on. Congrats keep me posted on how the sighting in process  with the tr-rail, and the high scope mounts on there. Congrats on a sweet rifle.

Thank you guys. I tried to sight it in with the low profile mount first but I have run out of up and down adjustment pretty fast. So I had to use adjustable high profile mount and it works very nicely.
I filled it up till 3000psi and shot it to sightit in and after about 11 shots it start to pick up more power. I used Eun Jins and I started to even feel recoil. Pretty powerfull gun. It looks like 2800psi is the best pressure for it. As I said, I do not own chrony but it feels like PW adjustment doesn't do much, but maybe I am mistaken. I should get chronograph one of these days.

Well? How do you like it?
: Re: My new and first Condor.
: tonaka January 31, 2009, 05:38:36 AM
I like it a lot. It is so far my favorite gun.  The  only other PCP I had was Evanix and I loved it very much too but had to let it go because of the noise. This Condor is such a flexible rifle. I bought 12" barrel for it and it became TSS and I like it's compact size. And for more power  I like my 24" barrel. Just somehow my 12" barrel is much more accurate then 24" barrel. It has alot of flyers sometimes.  I shot 50 rounds on one fill with 12" berrel 40 yards out and they all went through 1" curcle. But with 24" they go all over. Maybe the shroud makes the pellets clip. Something I have to figure out. Otherwise I love it.
: Re: My new and first Condor.
: SAVAGESAM January 31, 2009, 05:45:18 AM
Do you have a chrony? You might be going super sonic.  What pellets are you using with the 24" barrel? Try the 24" barrel with the shroud off and use Beeman Kodiaks and please let me know your results. I doubt you are clipping with a Tony shroud. Have you looked through the shroud?
: Re: My new and first Condor.
: tonaka January 31, 2009, 05:55:08 AM
Yes, I doubt that I clip with that shroud as well cuz I did look through the barrel trying to check for clipping and it was fine. I shoot with Kodiaks mostly but I bought like 7 tins of Eun Juns cuz I heard they are pretty good. They do shoot OK but that is the pellet that has the most flyers. I use them with 24" barrel cuz it has more power to push those heavy pellets. But what personally think couses this inaccuracy is that when I pump it up to 3K it dousn't open the valve well- valve lock I guess. When pressure drops it goes into it's sweet spot and it shoots OK. But with Eun Jins it uses alot of air pretty fast. So I pump it up till 2750 PSI and it  shoots somewhat OK with Kodiaks. But I will try without shroud as you saggested.
Thank you

Sorry, forgot to tell you, I do not own a chrony.

Try PW setting 5 with kodiaks and a 2600psi fill and tell me how your accuracy is then.  Using a 2600psi fill and PW 5 I get sub inch groups at 55 yards on a windy day.

OK, I'll try that.

: RE: HEY, GUYS HOW ARE....
: crazy4salmon February 06, 2009, 12:30:15 PM
My .22 Tony tuned Talon, loves kodiaks. She shoots jsb exacts at 900fps and likes them too. The Eun Jins are fun to shoot because they really smack the target, but at 30 yards I was getting inch and a half groups. With the Kodiaks I was getting half inch groups. I did try the EJ right after I had filled the gun. Maybe I should try them after the air has settled down some. If the weather is good Saturday I might get the silent trap out and fling some lead at it.

As you saw in the hunting forum, the 35gr. pointed eun jins are very effective...
: RE: HEY, GUYS HOW ARE....

Almost the same thing with my Condor, Dan. Shoots Kodiaks very well but not so good with Eun Jins.

You will love that gun! I've had mine for three years. Had a tune up with Talontunes because I had worn mine out. The most accurate air gun I have ever shot. Good luck with it.
: RE: HEY, GUYS HOW ARE....
: ZELDA February 10, 2009, 02:25:38 PM
Hi, just a question. Does anyone use the condor .22 on highest power setting? You would be able to make much farther kills and take down bigger game that way right. If you dont have to worry about wasting air or being loud, shouldnt you use full power?
: RE: HEY, GUYS HOW ARE....
: tonaka February 10, 2009, 07:23:06 PM
My Condor is tuned by Tony from Talon Tunes and he machined a new hammer for mine so it is little bit heavier then stock from the factory. I asked him to do it cuz Iam planning to get .25 cal barrel soon. So, I think you can shoot on full power but I think in my case Beeman Kodiaks will go supersonic and the accuracy will greatly suffer. I can imagine they will go supersonic even in stock Condor on full power. And of course it will eat air like crazy. Anyway what is the point of the power if accuracy sucks.

Yes, on about PW 10 or 11 you get max power, at least for me.  Anything above this just wastes air.  However, if you use a heavy 28gr. eun jin or if you have a .25 caliber condor you can get much better long range power.  You do want to keep the velocity of the bullet under 1000fps if possible so thats why most people don't shoot on max power.  Mine will shoot 21gr. kodiaks over 1100fps on full power.
: RE: HEY, GUYS HOW ARE....
: ZELDA February 11, 2009, 10:05:41 AM
Ok, I guess Il be using the 28 Eunjins. I just wish they were a little bit cheaper.
: RE: HEY, GUYS HOW ARE....
: ZELDA February 11, 2009, 11:02:27 AM
Well, no, Il use Kodiaks because then I can shoot around 900 fps and have more shots than i would if I was using Enu Jins.
: Re: My new and first Condor.
: SAVAGESAM February 11, 2009, 01:57:31 PM
Zelda unless yours is different from most others, the Kodiaks will group better too.
: Re: My new and first Condor.
: ZELDA February 11, 2009, 02:04:49 PM
Alright, Il be getting a .22 condor pretty soon. What is the max range that the condor can get good groups at with kodiaks? What power setting?
: Re: My new and first Condor.
: longislandhunter February 12, 2009, 01:31:40 AM
My .22 Condor is sighted in for the Kodiaks and it's giving me ragged hole groups at 40 yards which is as far as I can sight it in in my yard.   I have the rifle set at lower than full power in order to keep the Kodiaks from going supersonic.  When I had the rifle set at  close to full power each shot would go supersonic so I backed it on down.  The rifle has been whacking squirrels with ease out to 40 yards and they've all been 1 shot kills, even the body shots.  The rifle is one amazing small game rifle.  I really bought it for the woodchuck hunting I do in the summer but it in the meantime I'll keep whacking the squirrels with it......

: ZELDA February 12, 2009, 11:20:55 AM
wow. 40 yards on power lever 2? That seems like a lot of un used  power. It goes to like setting number 12.
: Re: My new and first Condor.
: longislandhunter February 12, 2009, 01:35:19 PM
The rifle is killing em just fine at #2.

I'll dial it up higher when the woodchucks wake up in the spring  :)

: Re: My new and first Condor.
: SAVAGESAM February 12, 2009, 03:21:51 PM
Zelda, even at two it's going to blow right threw a squirrel. You'd need a .25 and/or a big hollow point to transfer anymore energy into the target.
: Re: My new and first Condor.
: ZELDA February 13, 2009, 03:16:12 AM
Yea, but I could get better range if I turned it up right?

You can easily pop squirrels at 100 yards with the .22 and Kodiaks at 950.
: Re: My new and first Condor.

Ok, and what is you top hat clearance?
: Re: My new and first Condor.
: SAVAGESAM February 14, 2009, 04:47:49 AM
I have mine set to .070. BUT every gun and I mean every gun is unique. Top hat, Power wheel, Fill pressure, Barrel length, Caliber, Pellet weight etc. Many many variables play into account here.
: Re: My new and first Condor.
: sailorgriz February 22, 2009, 09:28:04 AM
Anyone shooting a Condor .177?  I'm thinking a .177 with Kodiaks shooting about 950 - 1000 fps should give great longevity from a fill of air.

Thoughts?

Probably be a few months before a Condor fits into the Mrs. budget--but I'm sure liking what I'm reading about it!  :>)

True, Marvin, True.  I'm not sure I'm quite that brave!  However, if my elbow continues to act up every time I go shoot the CFX more than a few rounds I'll be able to justify a non-springer for health reasons.

Mine should get here the end of the week or early the following week:

.177 Condor, CO2, tri-rail, high one piece rings.  I'll put the 3-9X40 I got for my CFX on it (don't like it on the CFX, should be pretty nice on the Condor).

Congrats on the new Condor,,,,, you are gonna love it.....  As for the "official" dark sider membership,,,, Marvin is correct,,,,, not official until you post a pic of you and the Condor  :)

AGain, congrats.  I am eagerly looking forward to your report and figures on the CO2 aspect as I have decided since I now have my .22 Condor to hunt with I'm gonna convert my 18 " Talon to CO2 since I have the CO2 adaptor that came with the Condor..... My plan is to turn it into my CO2 duck farm starling rifle.  I'm just wondering if I should keep the .22 barrel on it now for use on the birds or get a .177.

Anyway, I'm off track,,, sorry,   Have fun with the new gun, lookin forward to your numbers....

WOW!  You guys are TOUGH!  But, pictures will be forthcoming.  Assuming, of course, that this tech-challenged old geezer can figure out how to post 'em!

Right now the chrony is on top of the fridge waiting for a battery and some means to protect it from stray pellets.  But I'll post a string once I get set up.  I've read elsewhere that it might be possible to squeak a little more speed out of CO2 with some adjustments; I'll have to find the details and then I'll try it--and post any interesting results I get.

I've heard about trigger mods that are useful.  Anyone have a link to an appropriate thread?

Although the reality is that if I can consistently send about 8 grains of hollow point down range at 800+ fpm, with a nice tight group, I'll be very happy with the rifle just as it is.

Yeah.  Right.  Like I've EVER been happy with anything just as it is!  Maybe next year it'll get a regulated 4500 psi carbon fiber tank and heavier lead.  heehee.

I,m not realy a fan of that style of gun, tend to go
for the more classic look. But out of all the
starwars guns the Condor is the best looking one.
Could I be tempted?  Don't know.

Hey and whats that long barrel atachment?
Thought they were illegal over there? or is
it not what I think it is?
: Does this make it "Official?"
: sailorgriz March 06, 2009, 12:16:53 PM
Condor came today!  After about 30 minutes of mounting the scope I took it out and put a couple hundred rounds of CPHP's down the pipe.  Let's just say the rifle accuracy puts me to shame!  Shooting off of a block of wood for rest the best I could do was about a 3/4 inch pattern at 25 yards.  Not bad, but not good enough.

Once it was well sighted and I got tired of shooting paper I started shooting my flip up targets.  The hit area is about 1 1/2 inches in diameter and it was not an issue to hit and flip time after time after time.

Until I stood up and tried it offhand, no support.  Ouch.  Of course, I immediately realized that the pull length was way to short and the end of the CO2 tank needed to just about sit on top of my shoulder.  Not a good situation.

By then I was tired so I went in and took a nap.  And then took the standup bipod out and tried the flippers again.  I think I missed 3 out of close to 60 shots, standing with a bipod.  I'm a happy camper.  The tank still bit as a stock.

So I made a "quick and dirty" stock for it.  My appologies to the woodworkers on the forum!  I think this will work until I get around to making a nice laminated one piece stock.  It's kind of ugly, but it is functional.

BTW, it was in 40's outside today so I taped 3 hand warmer chem packs to the tank and then put 2 wool socks over it.  Temp by the "calibrated hand" method stayed very nearly the same after being outside for over an hour.  Again, I'm a happy camper!

Anyway, I was told I had to post a pix to be an Official DarkSider.  Does this do the trick?  I'll take out the chrony one of these days and see what I get--and post the results.

Although defined as "temporary" I know myself well enough to expect it to last a long time.  As long as it works good it'll put a new stock down on the "must do" list.  Below a lot of "honey do's" I'm afraid.

But, someday . . . . !
