: dave2288 December 08, 2008, 10:05:07 AM
the new marvel movies out are pretty good...and lots of ppl liked dc's newest batman movie...what kind of action?  (example:if you like cowboy style movies, then maybe not these, lol)
: Re: Action Movies
: Gene_SC December 08, 2008, 10:10:24 AM
My tastes vary widely with action movies. A bit of sci fi, espionage, who done it, etc. are my favorites. Although it would be cool if they would release another good cowboy movie..:) Clint Eastwood is to old now to be a real bad a@#...:)
: Re: Action Movies
: SDale December 08, 2008, 10:21:52 AM
I agree that Clint made the best cowboy flicks. But like you said....He's a little on the old side. The newer ones aren't that great. 3:10 to Yuma is okaaaaay, so are a couple others. But not good enough to stick in my mind.

The Dark Knight is a good flick, so are Iron Man, The Hulk, Hancock, Tropic Thunder (more of an Action/Comedy)

Death Race is a remake, but actually a REALLY good one! "Babylon AD" is a Sci-Fi/Action Flick, and another good one.

The "Transporter" series is pretty good too. Comming out next month is yet another remake (supposedly pretty good too!) is "The day the Earth Stood Still"
If you haven't seen it, then the remake of "War of the Worlds" with Tom Cruise is another one of my favorites.

"Valkyrie" with Tom Cruise is also REALLY good! I saw a 35 minute pre-release teaser with some friends of mine. It's about a group of German Officers that plot to assassinate Hitler.

: shadow December 08, 2008, 11:08:10 AM
I'm a big shootum up western and war guy movie watcher oh and outdoor survival type movies. Gene if you haven't seen "Into the wild" check it out. It's based on a true story , very good I thought. A oldie but still my favorite is " Jeremiah Johnson" :) , I've about worn out the DVD hehehe. That movie make me want to sell all except for my shooter's, grab the little lady and head for the hill's. I told her we'll end up living up there sooner or later hehehe. Ed

I recently saw the film "Shooter", I enjoyed it very much although being an avid Shooter/Hunter I picked it apart so to speak, but it's still worth a view. In fact if you have not seen it I highly recommend it.

And if that doesn't work do as I do every year or so and resort back to "Lonesome Dove"........my favorite of all times, following in a close second is the classic "Outlaw Jose Wales".........Oh and "Tombstone"........I'm ya huckleberry!
: Re: Action Movies
: dave2288 December 08, 2008, 11:38:02 AM
that is an AWESOME movie!  i love shooter!  but yea, there are things that are incorrect with it(like, he ejected the casing after the shot...how did it magically end up in the gun again, if he removed the firing pin????????)

: Big_Bill December 08, 2008, 02:09:07 PM

Hey Gene,

My two all time favorites are BIG JAKE and Quigley Down Under, then there's always Hunt for Red October !

For Sci-Fi there's Contact and Sphere, they will keep you thinkin :)

And if you can find FlashPoint with Kris Kristofferson and Treat Williams, thay's a GOODIN !

And The Glimmerman with Steven Seagal, will definitely keep your attention :)

And Shooter and Live Free/ Die Hard, look just fine to me :) ya just have to watch it all the time.

Hope this helps you pass the nights, it does me !

Bill

: Re: Action Movies
: geewhiz380 December 09, 2008, 12:41:43 AM
does anyone know if there r still any drive ins now that was cool .
: Re: Action Movies
: maple December 09, 2008, 01:30:18 AM
There are currently 2 drive-ins still operating here in the St Paul area, they are very fun to go to.

I love Sci-fi and you can't go wrong with Bladerunner (there are 4 versions you can watch) or Alien, two of the all time best IMO.

30 Days of Night was good if you like gore without substance.  The Hills Have Eyes is another movie for gore lovers. They are not for weak stomachs.  Saw is also good but they get worse as they go on.  The last good scare/suspense movie I saw without any gore was Pennydreadful, suprisingly good for what it is.

I really enjoy the wuxia movies too.  House of Flying Daggers, Hero, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Kill Bill I&II are great if you are into a lot of martial arts action and Chinese folklore.

My last suggestion is Planet Terror because a good cheesy zombie movie is the way to go sometimes and this one is very good IMO.

: RE: Action Movies
: Big_Bill December 09, 2008, 04:24:41 AM

And for fun,

HELLBOY and HELLBOY II were very entertaining !

Even my wife, loved it. And she is only interested in Girley movies and Vampire flicks :)

Bill

: Re: Action Movies
: gunsup0331 December 09, 2008, 10:50:14 AM
Wanted is a good flick, and  if you havent seen HEAT then you need to stop what you are doing and rent it.
I didnt like Ironman that much.....Both new Batman movies are really good too.
: RE: Action Movies
: daveshoot December 09, 2008, 11:17:31 AM

"Heat" was excellent, good call.

For an oldie but very goodie, check out The Man Who Would Be King.

If you're slightly drunk and into mindless violence, Starship Troopers (original) sure busted a lot of caps. Don't analyze the tactics, just roll with it.

And, if that's your demographic, then Kill Bill (both vols.)would have to be on the list, too. C'mon, you know it was all in good fun.

: Re: Action Movies
: RCnMo December 09, 2008, 11:37:05 AM
I haven't seen HEAT for a long time. Great flick!
: What is the MATRIX?
: Dave1899 December 09, 2008, 12:02:40 PM

I can't believe no one mentioned THE MATRIX...That is one of the best Sci-fi Kungfu flicks to come out in the last 10 years! For a good action sci-fi western you can't beat Serenity and the Firefly Series. Shoot em' up Vampire flicks that are great are the two Underworld's and Ultra Violet......

: Re: Action Movies
: r1derbike December 09, 2008, 04:00:41 PM
Just watched Dark Knight on blu-ray tonight.  Dolby True HD audio knocked a few things off the walls, but have come to expect that.  Gotta go check and see if any nails backed-out of the wallboards tomorrow.

Iron Man was OK, but didn't buy it.

Shooter is a must see.  Get Smart is another must see.

Basically anything that stresses-out the surround system and house frame members.

Training Day.

Kill Bill I and II were some of Tarentino's best.

We Were Soldiers.

Charles, the movie.

: EARTH STOOD STILL
: gamo2hammerli December 12, 2008, 03:17:26 AM
Sorry to say...it was abit disappointing. They could`ve made it alot better. I`d give it a 5 1/2 stars out of 10. Rent the dvd..... Jennifer Connelly looks great though.....as always.
: Re: Action Movies
: RedFeather December 12, 2008, 11:34:02 AM
There's a new one coming out by the director of Sin City.  Loved that one.  Very hard edged and nearly film noir.  Just saw Tropic Thunder (on DVD) and it was a pretty good laugh.

Shooter was ok but a bit of a stretch, especially shooting the guy's finger off at, what? three hundred yards, no sight-in shots.  Hollywood marksmen.

Want a good old action film?  Scare up a copy of Zulu.  Still stands up after all this time.
: Re: Action Movies
: davee1 December 15, 2008, 12:17:07 PM
King Arthur,A History of Violence, Aeon Flux, DoomsDay,and Fracture to name a few....I'll have to check my collection to see if I missed any.
: Re: Action Movies
: davee1 December 15, 2008, 12:25:23 PM

The Pathfinder, 10,000 B.C., Into the Blue, The 13th Warrior, Running Scared, The Chronicles of Riddick, The Rundown, and Soldier.

And lets not forget Sniper, Sniper II, and Sniper III.

: for comedy...
: davee1 December 15, 2008, 12:30:54 PM
I laughed so hard it hurt with BORAT, Talledega Nights:The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, and Walk Hard.
: for good zombie action....
: davee1 December 15, 2008, 12:34:23 PM
ya can't beat the Resident Evil movies...there's three of em.
: for good Vampire action...
: davee1 December 15, 2008, 12:36:41 PM
Ya cant beat the Underworld movies....there's three of those too. Also, we liked the movie Rise with Lucy Lu.
: RE: Action Movies
: ronbeaux December 15, 2008, 01:33:31 PM
Bond, James Bond. Especially the new Bond. And all of the Sean Connery ones. Also Men in Black. "It's peaking!" or "This is not an intergalctic kegger!'

Also Sniper, based on a book by Carlos Hathcock '93 Confirmed Kills.'

What about 'The Principle'?

Or 'Officer and a Gentleman' where Louis Gosset Jr. kicks the pretty boy in the knutz???

'Walking Tall' anyone?(Old one not the new one)

'The Mummy'?

All time favorite.........'Raiders of the Lost Ark'

Of course you can't leave out any Arnold or Jean Claude VanDam or Chuck(The God) Norris movies!

Oh yeah, Jackie Chan too.

: scotsman December 16, 2008, 09:25:39 PM
Yeah, MIB..." Mr. Edwards...Can you tell us why you felt little Tiffany here had to die?" and " heh heh I just find that very funny...but yall ain't laughin' "
Heat rocked...but I like most all Dinero work. I've about worn out Private Ryan...great attention to detail. Lonesome Dove stands out. Pale Rider is 2nd only to Unforgiven for me.
For laughs, I like Raising Arizona..."Give me back that baby, you warthog from Hell !"
: Re: Action Movies
: TCups December 16, 2008, 10:07:49 PM
"Name's Leonard Smalls.  My friends call me Lenny, but I ain't got no friends."  Gotta love those Cohen brothers.  Raising Arizona.  Fargo.  O' Brother Where Art Thou?  No Country for Old Men.

Shame on all of you for not mentioning John Woo and Chow Yun-Fat. Hard Boiled is good Hong Kong 2 fisted shooting. Anything Woo or Yun-Fat.
I refuse to spend my money watching anything with that anti gun scumbag Marky Mark Wahlberg.
: Mark Wahlberg is an ANTI???
: gamo2hammerli December 19, 2008, 07:21:02 AM
I didn`t know that. And he starred in "Shooter".....great film...watched it at least 4 times. And "Planet of the Apes"....4 times also......I know, I need to get a life. :p
: Re: Action Movies
: Jaymo December 19, 2008, 10:33:04 AM
Yep. And he's a convicted felon which means he's actually committing a felony every time he handles a gun during the making of a movie. Many of the guns used in moviemaking are real guns, not fakes.
You don't remember the time he slammed Charlton Heston for his pro gun/ pro NRA stance? I'll never forget.
