: crosman quest 1000???
: goo March 19, 2009, 04:20:39 AM
hi to all... i' ve just bought the Quest 1000 and the spring broke after about 2500 - 3000 shots, not more. Is this natural?? Also can anybody suggest me any kind of improvements that i can do for the best performance of this gun? And lust, i bought the tasco .22 riflescope (3-9x32). So what' s your opinion?

Hi George and welcome to the forum,,,, nice to have  you with us....

As for the spring,,, well, they do break sometimes although I would think you should've gotten more life out of it than that.. What kind of pellets were you shooting ??

As for getting the best performance out of the gun,,,,,,, you could always have it tuned,, that would certainly do wonders for it, or if you have a spring compressor and feel confident you could always do a home tune and lube yourself which would also make the rifle much nicer to shoot.

As for the scope.... not sure what specific scope you got,,, is it the "golden antler" air rifle scope ??  If so then they are decent scopes for the money,,, I have several and they work fine although I personally don't like the exposed adjustment turrets.

Well, once more Welcome to the GTA.... lots of nice folks here who are always willing to help out a fellow air gunner.....

Jeff

I have a love hate thing going on with crosman springers. There springs are getting worse I broken 4 with in the last year, they are only around $5+shipping from crosman and are realy easy to replace and not worth having to pay to ship the rifle to them to have them replace it.Best thing to do is get you a JM spring for $17 here is a link. http://www.airguns.citymax.com/catalog/item/251488/5414946.htm

thanks guys for the enlighten. I mostly used the norica apache pellets, but also the norica killer, the H&N diabolo sport and some greek manufactured pellets. (.177).. As for the spring, i send the gun to the dealer. it is on warranty. thanks again.. My opinion for the gun.. its pretty good.. even though  i dont have much experience the gun shoots with very accuracy ( i shoot the same pellet hole in 25 meters), its strong enough for an airgun and its very light compare with other guns, also the price is very low. i think its a very good purchase for first gun.

Congradulations on your new shooter Goo! The Quest and it's varients are all good rifles, but like most springers, they need to be tweeked to shoot up to their optimal performance. My only word of caution would be to be careful with your pellet selection. The Quest rifles will not tolerate being shot with heavy pellets. They aren't designed to. Stick with the 7.0 grain minimum, and 8.8/9.0 grain maximum pellet weight spectrum. Forget the lead-free pellets altogether!!!! As for your glass selection,...the Tasco scopes are decent enough for your rifle. I bought mine from wal-mart ( under $30) and have never had a problem with them, so you should be good to go with yours. Best Wishes, tjk

Hey goo nice to see you one the forums..  As far as shooting through the same hole at 25 yds.. thats exceptionally well.  I have a stock g1 with a Scope and I'll put 10 shots in a Dime.  but not through the same hole.  It is a very good gun for the price!!!

Ok... second time the spring has broke, and only shoot about 1000 times. I think the quality its not very good. As for the maintenance , i just clean it and oil it, what else?

Goo,
you aren't putting any oil into the chamber are you? If so you could be causing it to deisel and that could be stressing out the spring. If you aren't then yeh deffinately a case of crappy springs. I have a Crosman 800x and never had any problems after putting 5,000 shots plus through it. J. Maccarri makes a spring that will fit the Quest series that shouldd not break for the life of the gun. I upgraded my 800 with it. That could be an option.

I'm new here too, My Quest 1000 is a good nickle size with crosman hunters, at 25 yards bushnell 3X9 .
Pellets can make or brake your springer, & Moly 60 on the spring, mixed 30hd oil 2parts 2 1 Moly60 about 2000 ran in it.
I may be off on the mixture of 30hd to moly 60  ? but it has worked good for me.
