On Sunday April 26, 2009. I took a few hours off Sunday afternoon and decided to shoot a couple of the GTA's Springer and PCP Target shooting weekly events. I had been waiting for a while for this style of shooting to come up so I could show off my CZ-643 and of course my new AA-200TA. I got through he Springer Target Match and went into the house to move the picture from my camera to my puter. I called Big-Bill up to let him know that I had put the final touches on his HW30 before I would ship on Monday.
Anyway we shot the bull for a bit and off I went back out to shoot with the PCP. Had the target set up and headed back to she shop to sit and start shooting. I noticed that one ear of the target was flapping a bit due to a light breeze, so I got up and headed down the ramp that would lead me to this post..:) First step with left foot slipped. Lost my balance and tried to correct but over corrected and ended up 10 feet out and away from the shop laying there in utter pain. Yep when I landed it was on my right foot and my foot and leg were twisted when my right foot hit the dirt. Two spiral fractures. The one was the big bone just about 6" down from the knee. The second break was in the other bone about 3" above the ankle.
To say the least I was in instant pain. No one around. This brought back old memories of being in shock.Body was going in one direction and right leg in an another direction. My phone was in the shop and I could not move. The first signs of shock were noticed with a bit of dis orientation. Then the cold sweats started. Still no one had heard or seen me laying in the back...:)
So after about an hour at my best judgement. I knew I was screwed unless I could get to my phone. With each small movement of any part of my body it would feel like my leg was being pulled off. So to make a long story short in the next hour or so I managed to creep and crawl back to the shop and ramp. On my back Iscooted far enough so my arm could reach the my phone.
I called for help and two three hours later I was getting a morphine drip which just barely knocked the edge off of the pain. But I was ok in the hospital with all these young nurses...."Absolutely the best part...:) "
After three days laying with the drip they finally decided to do surgery on my leg. They shipped me off to a Bone Repair Hospital and every thing was fixed the best that could be fixed....:)
Bob, Timmy and My wife came to scrape me up outa da hospital yesterday and took me home. Here I sit with most of the pain gone now but still a bit of a buzz left over from the pain medicine they sent home with me.
Timmy by brother is here emptying my bed pan's and applying baby powder to my behind...:) It does not get better than that boys and girls..:) Just think, that just over a year ago Timmy and me just were to ink markson the GTA. Kinda goes to show you that there are great human beingsaround to give helping hand. Timmy is planing on staying a few days. fixing my ramp so it is safe for me to go up and down... hehe
Bob has taken home a couple of my springer air rifles to tune. I bet my clients are gonna love that...:) Without Bob I would not be here right now. Thanks Bob for all that you do and have done for this BIg Old Dummy....:)
Gotta go, Timmy has made me breakfast and needs to carry me into the kitchen..:) Have a great day everyone.

God almighty, Gene...I was really sorry to hear that you'd hurt yourself as badly as you did. CDT told me he was gonna be draggin your butt home, and from the tone of the note he sent me, I think he was kinda chuckling...you may wanna ask him about that...lol
I WILL NOT empty your bed pan or powder your ample behind; however, if there is anything else I can do for you, just tell me what it is my friend.
Please get well soon, you certainly had a lot of your friends on this forum worried about you.

Sheesh!! And I thought that air rifle spastic syndrome only affected people when they rush to the door to get the new package from FedEx or UPS!! :)

Ouch! Gene, that is awful. I had a spiral fracture once, no fun, got the full length cast for a long time over that one. Two would be awful. That had to be a really long hour for you.
Sorry the nurses aren't as pretty where you are now (http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-surprised.gif), but it's great someone could help out! Take it easy. Sounds like a good time to get in some pistol practice!

Gene...So sorry to hear of your temporary set back. I feel your pain Buddy. I had a Tib/Fib break years ago that left me with a steel plate and 13 screws in my leg. Hope you mend real quick! If you don't, Nurse Timmy might be with you for a long time...now that's a scary thought. I found this pic of Timmy in the Lost Nurses Archive's...LOL

All our thoughts and prayers are with you for a speedy recovery, Gene. I hate that I couldn't get to the hospital to see you.
Please tell Timmy that while he is there, between times spent on his other nursing duties, I fully expect him to do make some serious revisions on your shop door ramp -- add some crossways slats, anti-skid surface (shingles, or stair tread material), and a solid pair of hand rails on either side for starters -- and maybe a set of steps to the side of the ramp if there is room. He can send me the bill for his carpentry services, but the fee for private duty nursing is strictly between you guys. You are fortunate to have friends like Tim and Bob!

Have Timmy setup some targets outside your bedroom window.......that should speed the healing process !!!!!

Oh crap Gene... I thought I'd noticed that you hadn't been on but geeeeze. Take a load off and allow yourself some recovery time. You certainly have my best, bud. Hang in there.
The simplest activities are perfectly capable of hurting us pretty bad. You're in my prayers.

Glad you are alright Gene, I have to admit that I was a bit concerned when I hadn't seen you here for a few days. Take her slow and easy from here on out buddy, there's only one of you and we want to keep you around for a long time.

Boy Gene, I waited up all night to see your scores, and when that didn't happen, I just hoped you were having a bad time with the targets. But being the tough guy that you are, I never thought that YOU would have an accident like that !!! But when you didn't sign on at all on Monday, I knew something was wrong :-( and when I checked Bob's log on, and seen the he didn't log on, I felt real bad that I pushed you to shoot those Bench Rest Matches ! So Timmy, give him plenty of corn juice, and don't let him chase the girls until he's better ! We don't want Gene to break his other leg, chasing the ladies now !!! Get well real soon Gene buddy, you know that your in My Prayers !!!! We'll have to get you a pair of GOLFin shoes Gene, so you don't slip going down that ramp again :) .....Bill

Gene, I wish you a rapid recovery. Having Tim as a wet nurse should be a great incentive. I stepped off my stairs about three short of the bottom once and badly sprained my ankle. Can't imagine how your leg must have felt. Take it easy and if they tell you to get some recuperative therapy, do so. It will work wonders. Now, can you shoot out your window? :D

Sounds like a call goes out for a modified wheelchair with integral stockrest and support platform. ;-)

We are going to make an attempt to get to the Fun Shoot but it all depends on Gene and what kind of condition he is in. If he feels comfortable in that he can take the 4 hour drive, Katie.... open the door...lol... 8) The bad part is that it looks like the event will be about the same time that they will be putting on his new walking cast so there might be a timing issue also. :o Maybe we can kill two birds with one stone cuz the hospital is right in the middle between here and the Fun Shoot and it should be a simple out patient procedure. Maybe Tommy can chime in here. I would think a couple of hours should be about all it would take and then I can either drag him on the rest of the way or drag him back home.. :p

the draging part is what really hurts he,he,he,he,charlie now that not the way u treat u friends is it ?thank GOD timmy is helping especialy with the wig and nurses outfit with the morphine gene couldnt know the diference between timmy or the blond headed nurse,he,he,he.. listen guys im just jokin honestly i pray that u recover well and with cdt and timmy and your wife what else can u ask for u r blessed with very good company and friends ...GOD BLESS U AND THE MRS.WITH ALL MY HEART .....JORGIE NYC....

Good to hear you're OK Gene! I know pretty much how ya feel!
I had a motorcycle accident when I was 15. Broke both shin bones, right ankle and 3 ribs. It'll get better! Are you casted or pinned and in traction?

Sorry to hear about your fall and I hope you are up and about soon! We were all a bit worried about you so thanks for giving us the low down! So just take it easy for a while and get Timmy to run up and down the range changing those targets! Alternativly, get him to build you one of those new fangled 'target on a pulley' systems for the yard!! :D

Yup I spoke with my buddy Gene and he said that he had taken a spill that took him out of action. :0 Thank the Lord that he got into the Doc to get the bones started on the mend :) and thank the Lord again for our traveling horse doctor Timmy for being there to help whip Gene back into shape. :) I still think Gene was trying to run down a critter with one of his shooter's :o or stalking em from the tree's hehehe... gravity is a bummer at times. Rest up my friend and give ol Timmy a BIG thanks for us. :) Ed

Just got back from a FT shoot and sat down this morning to read this! I just knew something was going on. From the sounds of it you have some pretty good nurses in Timmy and Bob. Your presence hear is missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you buddy. Paul

Wow! Sorry to hear about that Gene. That must have been scary laying there alone with no help enduring the pain with every move to get to the phone. Well you 're in good hands now! Just don't let Tim get carried away and use any of that nail polish on your toe nails (inside joke)! :D 8)
So who is bigger, you or Timmy? I hope the one doing the carrying.. hehe.

The guys are really looking for you to go to the Timmy shoot.
The main thing you need to worry about is healing up.
With Bob and Timbo, you are in great hands.
However, you two do have me a bit worried about all this cross dressing
and bumb powdering. You dont need/want me to come down there and
lay hands on you for prayer do you???

Oh man you made my leg hurt with just the decription of that!Take care Gene and stay off that leg for a good while and let it heal,I broke my right foot once then twice while it was still in a cast which I had to wear for 3 months then have surgery because it would not uinion up so take it easy!Wish you a speedy recovery!
