Isn't it nice when after breaking your favourite lathe took beyond repair and after putting up with another one squeaking away until you can stand it no more. So you dig around in the tool box and discover a lathe tool that looks interesting, then you set about re-grinding it into something useful. When you use the now perfectly ground and sharpened tool for the first time you find it cuts metal like a knife through butter and is as quiet as a church mouse fart.

This is exactly what I did today and the finish I am able to achieve is way ahead of what I used to do, it will save me a bundle on emery paper and polishing.

What does the profile of your tool look like?  I have a old South Bend 9 inch that never has turned out such a nice looking cut.  Any tips to get close to what you wre able to do would be appreciated

Thanks for the picture.  I'll see if I can get a better cut this weekend using you profile.
