: Oct 10, 2009 shoot at Ron's
: WhittTX August 22, 2009, 04:05:56 AM
Aliens???   I have heard of crop circles but brush piles!!!!!!!!  I have been looking for a sign to host another shoot and it turns out that the Aliens cleared out an area that would work for a shaded shooting area so here goes.  Time will be from 9am to 5pm on the second Saturday in October weather premitting.  We had 5 tables setup at the shooting line last time so I am bumping it to at least seven with more to put our gear on.  Distances in the range of 40-60 yards max.  Instead of taking a break and going out to eat we will just eat here to extend the shooting time (that's for Brian and Gary).  I will have a grill setup for cookiing so feel free to bring what you desire.

As last time I would appreciate and email so I can gauge attendance.

Ron

Forgot to mention for perspective the last two shots have me wearing a white tshirt an holding a six inch cow bell with a one inch orange dot on it just to give a better idea of the max distance.

Ron, count me in!
The last one at your place was terrific. We ought to have great weather at that time of the year.

FYI, Ron's back yard slopes way back to a thicket with a creek with woods on the other side. There are some wonderful old pecan trees in his back yard, too. In our part of Texas, you need to be near a creek to have the big trees and dense undergrowth. It's a beautiful place to shoot, and Ron is a gracious host. Don't miss out on this.

I just checked - the airfare from Columbia SC roundtrip to DFW is only $288 that weekend, leaving Fri and returning Monday. Tommy, Bob, and Gene, we'll let you shoot our guns...

: Bill inTX August 25, 2009, 12:04:54 AM
And you already know I will be there. I'll bring the red canopy, the target box, the little table (if you need it), a stack of airguns, and a cooler of Refreshing Adult Beverages. May even drop by the night before to make sure all your rifles have scopes on them....

That's very nice of you Bill but what I really need you to do is sell me either your 631 or 634 at what you paid for them....that would be a great help!

: Silo August 29, 2009, 10:25:21 AM
Ron, please post the directions again.
I have send a few folks this wayhoping they will come as well.

: WhittTX August 29, 2009, 01:16:19 PM
No problem Roald.
I am about 7 miles south of I20 between Fort Worth and Weatherford.   Coming from Fort Worth you take the Aledo exit after I20 and I30 merge.  From Weatherford you take the FM 5 exit after 180 merges into I20.  Check out the mapquest link below and if you have any questions contact me at:

WhittTX@sbcglobal.net

Tables are provided but you will need to bring a chair and food/drink.  I will have two grills with side burners setup for use.  I am also encouraging bringing something to sell or trade to make it interesting, guns, scopes, etc.

Did a test shoot this morning with Bill and Chris.  They really liked the openness of the last shoot and the breeze under the big tree.  So I am sitting up two areas.  One will be under the pecan tree as last time but max shooting distance has increased about 10 yards since we will be shooting on a diagonal toward the corner of the lot.  The other area is under the trees in back where we were thinking of doing a field target area since it has multiple levels and is moderately treed.  Max distance for both areas is around 50 yards.  Plus is that now there will be no problem with crowding.  We had five tables last time so the open area will have at least 7 and another 3 in back so the shooting line has doubled in size.  Working on racks to store the guns now.

Will keep you updated, Ron

Roald,

I plan to use this opportunity to hand deliver my 850 to you for a tune.  That is if you have time for tunes right now.  And will have cash on hand!  Don't expect you to tune it on-the-spot!  Will make the drive up your way when it is done.

Thanks,
Chris Rogenski

: Silo September 17, 2009, 05:04:13 AM
Hi Chris, it sounds like a plan. I have no idea what the schedule
as far as tunes and conversions will look like at that time, but I'll
get it in there no problem.
I'm looking forward to seeing all you guys again.
It's getting closer to the time and I'm not sure what I'll need to bring.
I am bringing a bag a charcoal for the grill and a bunch of cokes.... or water.
Two or three chairs and a small table that can be used for food... no good for
shooting from.... and meat for me to grill ;-) I'll see if John can make it
down to my place, if so I'll bring him too.
Roald.
: Re: Oct 10, 2009 shoot at Ron's
: Illiniwek September 17, 2009, 05:15:45 AM
Is John a side dish or a main course?  You may need to bring 2 bags of charcoal if you plan on grilling him!  I'll bring the garnish! :p

P.S. Don't forget the tenderizer!
: Re: Oct 10, 2009 shoot at Ron's
: Silo September 17, 2009, 05:20:31 AM
Heck I don't know... the man is pretty lean... most likely pretty chewy too.
I don't think any amount of tenderizer will fix it. :emoticon:
I know he's having problems with his truck right now so he might not make it.
Roald.

Well we are down to less then two weeks folks!  Looks like the average temp is to be around a high of 82 and a low of 57.  Keep your fingers crossed on the rain.

And remember there will be a table setup for trading!

I have the following:
for sure:
NIB Umarex 1911 tactical, never fired, original owner
drozd, the yellow one....less then 500 rounds thru it (no steel bb's used) original owner
Webley hurricane good condition
CFX in 177 very good condition
couple of powder burners
Walther P-22 pistol original owner never fired, got it for the kids but no interest
S&W 57 41 mag blue with 4 inch barrel, shot less then 50 rounds, original owner purchased when lived in the Rockies to discourage unwanted guests when camping.  very good condition, comes with some ammo but its 20 years old :), this is a very nice gun.  Really in many ways better then the 44 in my opinion, just never got the love it deserved

maybes:
P1 with a chipped rear sight, otherwise very good
460 near NIB, less than 200 pellets thru it
other possible, need to do some digging

Ron

Sorry Jerry but I am going to miss this one. I have a previous engagement in Charlotte that weekend. Bought my tickets in advance..:( I know you guys will have fun for sure.. Bob and me still talk about how great all you were at the last one.

Have fun and shoot safe.

OK people you must have something to trade/sell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Roald??    Would love to see one of your conversions with a nice wood stock!  Do you take discover card?

Paul??  How about those Turkish webleys?

Bill....you really want to sell the 634 to me!

Added to my list is a 717 in very good condition and still digging.

Also is anyone interested in shooting up to 75-100 yards?  This is an option with some work but only if there is an interest.

I also need input for the field target, etc.   How wide do the lanes need to be and how many targets per lane?

Ron

PS  anyone have experience with a Winstar 550, need a seal.  Help appreciated.

I'll be bringing at least one of them, none for sale at this time though.
it'll be my private stock (http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif)
It'll be 2 850's 22 and a 177, my old faithful Welby 2000 and a "tuned" Marauder.
They are all very boring to shoot and have not been out in a while because of that.
All of them can produce around a 3/8" full mag group at 25 yards.
All the 22's running at around 930fps with CP'sand the 177 at 950fps with Kodiak's.
I have not shot further than 25yardsfor so long now, I don't think I can any more.
This is one of the reasons I am looking forward tothis shootsomuch.
Is Joel going to be there?
Man I can't wait!

I will not sell you the 634 until you can pronounce "Ceska Zbrojovka" after three beers.

Or unless you want to trade your BSA Stutzen and your 397.

Well it looks like showers are a possibility but I think we can overcome that.  If anyone has an awning they are welcome to bring it just in case.  We have 21 confirmed attending and five pending plus several queries so should be fun.  I will start setting up around 9 so anyone that wants to show up early to help is welcome, especially if you have an interest in shooting field target or steel chickens since I have no experience in these areas as to what lane width is preferred, distance, reasonable placement, etc.  Just looks like fun :)

For the late joiners a recap.  Time is from 10-5.  We will have two shooting areas.  The open target area out to about 50 yards and the more wooded area for FT and Silhouette.  Tables for shooting, eating, trading, selling, etc.  Two gas grills and several coolers.  Have a cousin cooking up a brisket.  Will have some simple gun racks setup for about 40 guns.

David is bringing the target collection.

You will need to bring chairs, ice, food, drink, shooting items, etc.  Awnings appreciated if the weather looks damp.  If it looks like the weather is going to be a problem we can reschedule for the following Saturday the 17 as a backup.  If this happens I will send out and email on Oct 9th.  Any questions give me a call at 817-919-5260.

If you are planning to come and haven't already contacted me send me an email please.  Don't want to run out of tables.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Am I one of the confirmed 21 Ron?  Hope so, I will be coming home from Kansas late Friday night, but I have already gotten the nod from my wife to have a shootout day, so I WILL be there unless I get hit by a bus or something.  I will also be bringing a few guns to swap/trade/sell, as well as some other airgun fodder that needs a good home....and if anyone missed it, I NEED an R-9, so if you have one sitting all quiet in a corner getting no attention, bring it along, I may have a home for it!

Just wanted to thank everyone that was able to attend!  Great group of people, 24 at last count.  And for those that weren't able to make it look for something around March/April as long as it doesn't conflict with someone elses shoot.

Here are some pics courtesy of Roald.
