There has been much made of predictions that the World will come to an end on December 21, 2012. The History Channel even has a program devoted to the prophecy.
What I think would be interesting is ....What are your thoughts on this Prediction?
Notice that I said 'Thoughts', not your feelings. Do you think that this type of prediction could cause civil 'problems' for society as the date nears. What possible scenarios can you envision leading up to this event date?
I have my own thoughts but will hold then at this time inorder not to influence replies. If any.
I figure there is 3 years and 3 months till 12-21-2012. So we may be able to kick this subject around for quite awhile.

If you believe in the BIBLE, it states that "NO MAN will know the time and day of MY second coming" !
So I take this prediction as I have ALL others, as a grain of salt !
However, such predictions have caused many others over the course of history to commit suicide, give ALL their positions to the religion of their beliefs, and just plain go mad.
I am sure that many will over react to this prediction, just as they have during all the past predictions of doom ! Remember the Year 2000 fiasco ! Weak minded people will always run around like headless chickens, perhaps 50 - 70% of them ?
I try to live each day to the fullest that I can, as well as being as prepared each day as if it were my last ! I have been as ready to be gathered, collected or die, for most of my life ! I have all ways tried to live the best life as I have been capable of ! :(
I have always been curious as to why people so in love with GOD, would fear death so vehemently ? After all, isn't that your final reward ?
But I can understand the atheist, they face oblivion !

Sounds like Y2K all over again. First we had the false one (2000) and then the real one (2001) and we are all still here.
Hey, when is that comet due back? The world is going to end every year according to the media. No wonder so many people took interest-only loans.
Isn't global warming supposed to toast us all before 2012 unless we have a massive tax increase and battery operated cars, anyway?

just live life to the fullest cause some of us might not make it to see 12-12-2012 like thru out history this world was supposed to be distroyed by fire/floods/quakes/tidal waves and all others i belive if you belive in god and trust in him it should not really matter unless if you dont then i kinnda feel bad for you good luck and shoot safe.

OK, The input is looking pretty good so far. How about some you others out there adding your thoughts.
I am not saying that I am in the DOOM camp due to the fact that if things happen the way they , the History Channel, have laid out the future there is nothing you could do. Except be right with your Maker.

Find your "true self" and the rest will just fall into place. Life has a cycle, that is all there is to it. You have four seasons - Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter. I time to be born, a time to die. The problem is that we adhere too much to this physical body that we don't see all the possibilities beyond it. Think of this "life" as an elementary school, once you have learned the things you need to learn here you will eventually have to use another realm to advance your knowledge about who you really are.
There was a sage who once said "If given the choice whether to choose between the issues of the world against the issue of the self, I would choose the latter." Just my 2 cents bro'.

Many people say that date is just the end of the calendar or something related to that. Otherwise, it's impossible to know for sure whether or not such an event will ever take place. But what fascinates me is that the Mayan culture has predicted many things in the past, and appeared to be true. Maybe this is no different? It will remain a mystery....we won't know until the time comes. Until then, let's just live everyday best we can and get as much shooting and plinking into our schedule as we possibly can! Not to mention getting together and do some targeting as well =]

I love all these old predictions. No one ever stops to consider that the current calendar was jacked around and re-ordered by more than a few days back in the 1700's. So, is 12/12/12 12/12/12 or should it be 12/06/12 or maybe 12/21/12??? What day is it today? Where am I? Who cares???? :D

Well Ya'll, I can tell that you are taking this 12-21-2009 date about as seriously as I am. I mean if there is to be total destruction then there is no need to stock up on Beenie-Wienies or the like.
The main thing that troubles me is the date of the 21st. of December. Suppose I wait to get Christmas gifts and the world does not end. Then I'll be forced into the fray with all the other last minute Christmas shoppers. Last minute shopping for Christmas is one of the worst tortures I can think of. All the good stuff is gone.
Just in case, believe I will plan a big Thanksgiving event for family and friends.

The way I see it, is it'll be the same as Y2K. Only peoples lives will be involved. SO, in the weeks and months leading up to that date there will be those chicken little minded people who will inevitably cause shortages of canned foods, bottled water, MRE's, survival equipment, medical supplies, guns, AMMO and ammo making supplies. Because of the Demand for all these things, vendors will end up doubling their prices and people WILL PAY therefore stimulating the sellers monop-economy.
When 12-21-2012 comes then goes and people see that NOTHING WHAT SO EVER has come to pass...EBay, Craigslist, local newspaper classifieds, gun shows and any other sales venue will be flooded with surplus items from the big "End of the world Buy-Out". And I'll be buying all my stuff for rock bottom prices again 8)

The only thing i can think of is that we'll be counting down to just under 30 days till another peaceful regieme change.... I wonder what letter will be missing from the keyboards this time?

its a scary thing but i believe in GOD and this is gonna happen if u read revalation and these predictions came from st. john of devine who wrote the book of revalation cause of dreams he was havin .just have fun and enjoy what we have left .my concept is shoot,shoot,shoot and fun,fun,fun thats it we will be like the dinosaurs that perished in the ground ...GOD BLESS US ALL....

At almost 60 years old, I've lost count of all the times I've heard the world is going to end.
Anyone old enough to remember all the predictions back in the late 60's about how over populated our country was and that we'd run out of food and fuel in less than 20 years ?
I beleved it too ..... until flying home from California to New York one night in the early 70's. There sure is A LOT of empty, unlit space between all those city lights !!!!!
If the world is gonna end, so am I, so why worry. At least I get out of having to do all those chores ! :D
This all reminds me of the old joke.

Wasn't it supposed to end with the worlds computers all crashing together back in 2000? Planes falling out of the sky, trains running through stations, cities going dark, .... etc., etc. - One thing it did do, - was make a LOTTA folks wealthy writing/reporting about it.

It is strange that the Mayan calender and the ancient chinese calenders both end on the same date 12-21-2012 which just happens to be the galactic alignment which only comes around once every 26,000 years and is suposed to cause our planets magnetic poles to flip so if we do surive it will mean that we will need new compasses because the old ones will be pointing south!

What, exactly,causes the earth's magnetic poles to flip every 26,000 years on a specific day? Is this due to the gravitational pull of aligned galaxies?
Why didn't it end the last time this occurred?
People date back, what, 60 million years? We dodged the bullet 2307 times and now it's gonna end?
Civilization is going to perish because of a) clamshell product packaging and b) free healthcare. One is already here. Let's leave the galaxies out of it and concentrate on measures we can actually take.

well the world is not going to end because of the poles flipping but as they do which they say it will not happen overnight but over a period of time and there will be many magnetic spots multiple north poles that will cause holes in the ozone as the poles flip and that we will be exposed to more radiation from the sun.I think it would be cool to be able to see an aurora borealis over N.Texas or will that be S.Texas?take a look at this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLSMAWVCxfQ

Looks like a good movie.....at least the speciall effects looked great. Saw the extended version of the trailer yesterday night after "The Mentalist"....with L.A being ripped apart in an enormous earthquake and the actor and his family flying in a private jet through all the falling office towers. I think California is going to float to Alaska ha ha.

nasa is bombing the moon tomorrow.....this is going to kill innocent aliens and their mother planet will retaliate. it will take about 2 years for their missile to reach earth and that will be DOOM'S DAY for us. all life on earth will be destroyed because of obama didn't stop it. sure they have captured some humans and did scientific research on them but they always returned their specimens back to earth. that is no reason to go and kill them!!!! :emoticon:

I watched the impact on the tv. It was hard to see. I think NASA was using a Gamo PBA, for the necessary velocity, of course. There's no water on the moon. Everyone knows it is made out of green cheese. If the world ends 12 whatever, we can all go to the moon and eat it. You guys go ahead, early, and leave me your possessions to dispose of in an orderly fashion. I will be sure to bring the money I get with me when I follow.

nasa wouldn't show the actual "live" video because it had a signal delay and showed metallic materials scattered everywhere. they BLEW UP THE ALIEN SHIPS!!!!!!!!!....its all censored so the public won't know the truth about alien life on the moon!! :p

lol, you have a point there Bhawanna. You know the "star-wars" program that was dismantled a couple of decades back? Well apparently NASA or some other organization didn't really dismantle it, but rather expanded it. Classified, but there. Good to get in on things like that :)

I think you guys should watch this video on youtube. It's roughly 8 parts of 9-10minute segments. Very inspirational and informative. Kinda makes you wonder a bit....the interviewer talks about the "Hollow-Earth Theory" as well as goes into depth of the "End of the World" date. Let me know what you guys think of the interview..

Hey, I found a used book at the library (yes, some of the kids these days actually use the books there) and it's a fictional work about - you guessed it, 2012! Talks about ancient Mayan temples and some sort of "alien signaling device" (ain't they always?) buried in the Yucatan Gulf, etc. Hope it's worth the $1.50 I paid for it. :D I'll keep you posted if it has any of them thar revelations.

Just checked out this stuff on Wikipedia. Interesting. According the Mayan calendar, the period we are in begain about 3,000 B.C. That is, their "beginning" or rebirth occurred while the Egyptians had been in full swing for a long time. Not exactly the instance of creation, so to speak. And the date is either the 21st or 23rd. And some of the cited Mayan sources apparently use an epoch containing twenty periods instead of the thirty required for the above-mentioned end date, which means the world ended about 1/3 of the way back. Geez, but it's confusing. Think I will just rent Apocalypto and watch it, again. Maybe I will understand things a bit better. Or not. (Good movie, BTW)
