: Scopes Trade/For Sale -- ALL SOLD 12.14.09
: thebookdoc November 19, 2009, 11:18:52 AM
The last three are pretty special -- depends on the kind of shooting you do though. If you want to see any I can provide pictures. 'like new' to me means I mounted and did not fire -- otherwise completely new. Open box mostly means I opened it, looked, decided to put it back. It does NOT mean they were purchased at a discount. Some I opened and put back more than others...e.g., the Nikon. I really wanted an excuse to use it, but with a minimal focusing distance of 50 yards (at least according to the dial, you can see a lot closer than that) it was not good for what I shoot. All scopes come with covers. All in original boxes except as noted. None are dropped shaken stirred or otherwise abused (well, maybe the Tasco).

Too rich for my blood (DAMN IT!!  That would be perfect on my .308!), but just out of curiosity, what reticle does the Nikon have?  You might want to indicate reticles on all of them, it matters to lots of us.  Now how do I convince the wife that I really NEED a $400 rifle scope ....

: Re: 10 Scopes for Sale/Trade
: thebookdoc November 19, 2009, 10:54:15 PM
There are 10 scopes in a wide range there, my bet is you can afford ONE of them ;-) I added the reticle types to the more expensive models. Maybe you can convince her if the price is right? What about $325 for a $400 scope (retail is actually $620) shipping included? I've opened the box quite a few times, so there is wear on the cardboard, lol!
: Re: 10 Scopes for Sale/Trade
: daved November 20, 2009, 12:32:24 PM
The problem, Doc, is that I really don't NEED another scope.  That .308 already has a Nikon on it, a Pro Staff, but it's only a 3-9 and no AO.  And it's not like I'm shooting it in the back yard like I can with my air guns.  And they all have good to excellent scopes already.  Add in being seriously strapped for cash at the moment, and that means no new glass, no matter how much I might want it :-(.  But good luck to you.  Oh, and one more suggestion.  Put prices on them.  I think a lot of guys are afraid of insulting someone in a "make offer" situation, and therefore they just pass on it.  Just a thought.  Later.

well, how bout if I ask you what you think fair prices are? You won't buy any and I want to be fair to myself and the buyer...

I also don't get insulted by offers -- even if they are well below what I might expect. It is just some people are more creative, and I don't mind dealing with that.

I am interested in the 4X32's   what are your prices?
: Re: 10 Scopes for Sale/Trade (A SCOPE FOR EVERYONE)
: thebookdoc November 20, 2009, 03:47:49 PM
How's $20 each for the 4x32s?  -- naw, actually $20 for the walther and postage for the centerpoint...

That is shipped...I can't go too much lower or I'll be paying to get rid of them!

Hey Richard what is the Bushnell knockoff? Who is it made by?
: Re: 10 Scopes for Sale/Trade (A SCOPE FOR EVERYONE)
: thebookdoc November 22, 2009, 10:57:24 AM
Sorry, all I know is Made in China. It says Bushnell on it, but I am pretty sure it is NOT a Bushnell. Came in a black box that just said Riflescope on it, and little else. On the other hand, I've used worse scopes!

Gotcha, just out of curiosity how are the optics on it? I wish you still had the Leapers, I'd be all over it

Richard,
Why are you selling the scopes??? I might me interested in one of the 3 special ones for my TF89. Which do you think fits it best???
: Re: 10 Scopes for Sale/Trade (A SCOPE FOR EVERYONE)
: thebookdoc November 22, 2009, 12:21:34 PM
I'm selling the scopes because I have too many, and I know what I need now. I bought them as a learning experience, much like I bought my RWS 350. I wanted to experience the difference between that rifle and the TF89. In this case, I wanted to see and experience the difference between scopes. The Nikon is too long for me. The Sightron and Leupold do not have AO. All will work on springers, and the normal focus can be adjusted shorter.

What kind of shooting do you do? That will make a difference.

Hunting. Thats about it with the 89. I don't necessarily need AO; just 1 more thing to think about b4 the shot.
: Re: 10 Scopes for Sale/Trade (A SCOPE FOR EVERYONE)
: thebookdoc November 22, 2009, 01:50:19 PM
Well, I have a Sightron with AO on my TF89 .22, and a Leupold on my TF89 .177. I can recommend either, though the Leupold I have for sale is not Leupold's springer scope (the 3-9x33 EFR Ultralight is). Both Sightron and Leupold said these scopes will be fine on a springer. However, because Leupold has a springer-specific scope, and I happen to like the Sightron just a slight bit more...you may be able to guess my suggestion. The Nikon is really longer range but it is side focus which is a great feature, and I think built for long range.

You might want to consider a tune before mounting either though!

One other thing...What mount were you using? All mounts are NOT the same. Everyone has their favorites, but I am forming an affinity with the Hawke mounts. They are both less expensive and seemingly built better than comparable mounts. I just bought a bunch to replace other mounts I have.

I can get you pictures...They are nice scopes!

Well, I have Leapers Accushot rings which I am going to return (see my review). Hawke might be my next ring choice. I am going to get a Gene turbo tune in the near future. I need better scope than the Leapers I have (defective/not strong enough) and all of the scopes you are selling are going to be better than that. I would love pictures of your favorites for the 89!

Found some links.... are these the exact scopes?

Leupold http://www.leupold.com/hunting-and-shooting/products/scopes/vx-i-riflescopes/vx-i-3-9x40mm/
Sightron http://www.sightron.com/index.php?action=view_document&did=1203036878&expanded=t&cat_id=7&id=118

I know that the Leupold is always under warranty. What about the Sightron??? And for how long???

Any pictures would be appreciated.

Found this on their web site...

"What Scopes are Recommended for Air Gun use?"
All Leupold scopes will withstand the spring recoil of air guns. Leupold's EFR (Extended Focus Range) scopes will focus down to 10 meters, and out to infinity. Leupold offers two models in EFR, the 6.5-20x40 EFR and the 3-9x33 EFR. Leupold's Custom Shop also offers parallax changes to most Leupold scopes for a charge of $15.00 plus $15.00 shipping and handling. Having the parallax changed can allow the user to focus the scope down to very close distances for air gun applications.

Parallax change eh?
: Re: 10 Scopes for Sale/Trade (A SCOPE FOR EVERYONE)
: thebookdoc November 24, 2009, 03:41:32 AM
Parallax change is something I have done on my own with really good results. Of course I experimented on cheaper scopes first and also have tools to work on optics and lenses. However, it is mostly a matter of moving the front lens grouping out -- often done by simply screwing the lens assembly counter clockwise. That is NOT just the bell, but the lens inside...and gawd help you if you scratch it! With care and the right tools it can be done with very little risk. Avoid over adjusting to keep from losing the nitrogen.

I was just shooting pictures...I'll have them up shortly. And YES, those appear to be the exact scopes I have available.

I really like that Leupold..... how much was it new? No AO is fine for hunting. Animal appears, you shoot! No adjusting!
: Re: 10 Scopes for Sale/Trade (A SCOPE FOR EVERYONE)
: thebookdoc November 24, 2009, 05:39:37 AM
I paid about $240...Either $229+shipping, or $240 with shipping included. It is a really nice scope...Nice enough that I got the 3-9x33 EFR Ultralight to use with my springers. I did it for the AO though...the company says all their scopes will handle double-recoil.

Sightron's got a lifetime warrantee: "Should your Sightron product ever fail, simply return it to Sightron at the address listed below with a brief note of the problem and your daytime contact information and we will repair or replace it at our option."

I like all of them...I just needed AO. I spent over $1000 to find that out...duh.

: AO for Targets?
: KK0605 November 24, 2009, 05:45:47 AM
Do you need AO for target shooting?
Does the Leupold scope focus down to 10yds? (on their site they say the rifle scopes focus at 150yds.) If not I guess I could get the parallax changed.
: Re: 10 Scopes for Sale/Trade (A SCOPE FOR EVERYONE)
: thebookdoc November 24, 2009, 06:03:41 AM
The non AO scopes are set at the factory to focus optimally at 100-150yards, but you can see well enough at 20 or 25. I can get a pretty close number if you need it. Because of ridiculous laws, I became constrained to shooting in my garage, and 7-10 yards is critical for me. I will be adjusting my parallax even on the AO to go shorter...maybe even as low as 15 FEET. I shoout targets...and toys ;-) But I'll also be joining a club with a range in 2010, and have a brother-in-law once removed that has some land not far from here. So I'll need to vary. In steps AO! I won't weep if I have to keep these scopes as I might use them someday. But they'd just be taking space till then. I'm betting there are people who can make better use of them.
