: BENCH SESSION AND PELLET PREFERENCE RESULTS
: 124 sporter February 14, 2010, 03:46:15 AM
Hey guys, I have always wanted to sit down w/a few of my airguns to try and determine each ones favorite food, and until we were snowed in by the recent weather events...I had never really had the time to sit down and do so. The guns that I used to evaluate each one's preferences were my Gamo 440, Daisy 1000ws, BSA Lightning XL, and my RWS 94. I only posted target pics from the RWS 94 and Gamo 440, but the results were more or less the same for all. (The pellets are listed in the pics.) All shooting was done from about 15yds. and all were 3 shot groups. What I found surprising was that all 4 guns had the same pellet preferences, and all of those pellets appeared to be more uniform and of higher quality right out of the tin. It should be noted that the pellets were not weighed, or otherwise hand selected, other than just to ensure that they were undamaged. These are just what my guns seemed to prefer on that day w/those pellets/tins tested...YOUR RESULTS MAY VARY!!  :emoticon:

Note: On the RWS 94 target, there are two separate 3 shot groups for the JSB Exacts...I simply made an elevation change from one group to the next.

Good shooting.  That's the way to do it.....later on, stretch out the distances with their favorite pellets and see how it goes.

Ya it sure is fun to be able to sit down with a few of your favorites and shoot paper. You sure learn allot from doing that. Especially about a certain pellet with certain guns. Not to metion finding the sweet spot for each shooter.

Yea, it's funny, I had been cursing this snow for over a week now but if it hadn't have been for the snow...god only knows when I would have actually had time to do this. And yes, it was very educational as well, definitely learned what my shooters liked for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  :emoticon:  I strongly recommend for anyone that hasn't taken the time to do this as the right pellet can make all of the difference in the world. I was really surprised at how large some of my groupings actually were from a relatively short distance. Whooda' thunk it! :)

Good shooting. I shot about most of the same ammo out of my 2 gamo rifles and a daisy 120 and had pretty much the same results. JSB's are the way to go by far cause they hold that group at pretty much all ranges. They are impressive. Great shooting.

Thanx, yea it was a lot of fun shooting at targets for 1/2 a day, as I normally would would never have time for something like that. I have to agree w/you on those JSB's, they seem to shoot well w/pretty much anything...I've noticed that they seem to be one of the most uniform pellets right out of the tin! :emoticon:

Seems like your guns like the same pellets as my guns.  Crossman Premier Hollow points.  cph's    My Ruger air hawk actually prefers the Field points slightly over the hollow points.  don't ask me why but it's more accurate with them.  The G1 extreme likes the CPH's   and my 1377c likes the Crossman field points.  I am looking forward to shooting predators out of the ruger.  that would be interesting

Huh, interesting bout the field points, from most of what I read and heard...the round nose type pellets usually seem to perform better than the fild point variety. I may have to give some a try, as I have some pointed pellets laying around, just didn't get around to shooting them that particular day. I'll post up results if/when I do.

Funny, I didn't include my FWB 124 in the test, because it seems to one hole everything but damaged pellets-LOL! 8)
