What would be the best for target shooting? .177 or .22 . I will be using it for 25 yard target only and need the most accurate. What do you target shooters say?
Any advise for pellets, I tried some Vogel in my .177 and it was hitting any where from bulls eye to two inches out, not really sure if it was the pellets or the gun =Gamo Nitro. Will be looking for a target only air rifle later.

They both work. The .22s will cost you more in the long run since you'll practice with them. For 10 meters/yards I use mainly the .177s but on occasion I've shot my .22s also. In the GTA RESTED PCP 30 YARD MATCH I use my .177 FX Cyclone more often than my 2 other PCP rifles (Both in .22). But if it's really windy the .22 will be more accurate. In the BENCH RESTED RIFLE 30 YARD MATCH (Spring piston only) I use a .177 also....just because I don't have a .22 springer.

First, when you are pushing beyond 10 meters, the flat front wadcutter design will destabilize faster than a round head pellet. So use a round head pellet.
I will leave the .177 vs .22 discussion to those who have shot both at the range you want to shoot.

In NRA or Olympic matches .177 cal. is mandatory !
But in the GTA matches either is accepted. As stated above, the .22 cal is better at longer distances. I also catches the line edges on close shots that would be missed with a .177 cal pellet due to its larger diameter.
As for pellet, try out as many as you can, to find the most accurate in your air rifle or pistol.. I have found that sometime the cheaper pellets are more accurate than the big name expensive target pellets, in my air guns ?
Checking your pellets visually and weighing them helps greatly, when you have the time and desire.

For target shooting, I would go with .177. You typically get many more pellets per the same unit cost with .177 than with .22 pellets. I think you will find that all of the competitive target shooting at 10 meters is done with .177 pellets. And if you decide to get really "jiggy", the high end target grade pellets (like Vogels) are all .177 cal.
