and face the situation." - W.C. Fields

I'm contemplating buying yet another air rifle, but I find myself, once again, with too many air guns and not enough green backs. Grudgingly, I must bleed the collection to make room. As usual, I will post here first. Nothing exciting but nothing awful, either. Of course, this depends upon buying that next gun. It's the old collecting conundrum; not enough money and not enough brains.  :D

I have been paying attention to the classifieds looking for something used don't know exactly what but definitely looking.

I never know what I'm looking for until I have it, LOL!
: Okay time to give up a Diana 24?

Redfeather, since you hang out over at the DWC got a 24 you want to part with?  Or been looking for a 27 in .177.

Like you, never really intend to buy a rifle it just happens!  LOL

Not bloodly likely, mate! That 24 stays in the fambly. Heck, I know I've gone loco. Just bought a BAM40 off the Yellow and that's not even the gun I'm talking about buying. Just couldn't pass it up. Walnut stocked version, tuned to boot. Don't EVEN need it, especially after that sweet 34 I bought from Howie. Got a Mendoza on the way as we speak/type. Now I'm really gonna have to shed blood from three different veins (air, smokeless and black) to pay for all this stuff. Although the one I'm thinking about, an FWB124 I came across today, may not be doable. Just finding out about those crappy piston seals. Might need a full JM kit and that's more than I was counting on. Well, tomorrow is another day, as they say.

LOL.  I was typing the "I'll take it" on that B40 as you were (and several others).  Rich does great work and that was a steal even untuned!  If you don't want it you can find many takers.  In fact if you have buyer's remorse ;-) I'll send you a check and you can have Rich send it to me.  Or tell Rich you resold to me and have it shipped here.  Not kidding!

That leaves you to go after your 'next' rifle.  Ok...so where is this 124 located.......

The 124D is a really sweet gun, and shouldl scratch the itch. I found one last year w/ a 66R scope...got lucky.

Go buy that rifle ! !

SOB in the store wouldn't ask the owner (consignment) if the seal had ever been replaced. They are notorious for disintegrating after twenty/thirty years. Stock had one or two good licks. Just not so sure about it. With a tune it will run it well over five bills. I might do a rebuild, myself, but it's kind of an expensive first gun to cut teeth on. And, get this, I used my 34 which I recently got from Howie (tuned by John in PA) to put two pellets into a paperback in order to check how hard the 124 might shoot. Certainly not as strong as the 34 but would give me an idea. That 34 actually is on a par with the 124. Just as good bluing, great trigger and the same cocking effort. Comes down to the 124 being almost the same thing except for a bit fancier stock. I'm having to think this one over hard.

There was also a cherry Geco (Diana) 6 pistol - BUT - same thing with those danged seals. Can't tell if they are good until you tear it down and, boy, those are not easy to work on. I think the rifle and pistol came in together, most likely as inherited goods. Therefore, no info available as to their being tuned or not.

Well, I need to sell stuff, anyhow. Will herd the ducks into a row over the weekend.

Go with gut feeling...there will be others. What was he asking for it?

Also, what type of gun do you want?

I can't give blood yet. Had a melanoma removed this time last year and Red Cross said I have to wait until April 1st. So that revenue stream (hey, it IS a stream) is out for the moment. :-)

RedFeather,

Do you have a Theoben yet? If not a heartily reccomend you purchase one.

Na, too fancy. I'm really in the process of culling the herd. Got way too much of everything and not enough time to shoot them. If I were to go for broke, it would be a Whiscombe. Actually, I'm quite happy with a good 54.

Well, done bought it. Haven't even had a chance to shoot it - to see if it WILL shoot. (Might have an old piston seal.) Whether or not it does will determine how much I've got to recoup and what goes on the block. Will start dribbling it out here soon. Give it a few days or so, then off to the Big Yellow Classifieds in the sky. BTW, gun looks real nice. I'll have to post some pix.

Ah, an attempt to launch a little lead pill produced the dreaded white crumbs of the ancient piston seal. Baby needs to be operated on. Either in-house by yours truly the witch doctor or off to the specialist's clinic. Either way, more money for someone. Will be posting a few for sales soon.

Unfortunately Andy, when I buy an Air Rifle I intend it, now watches or caps, that's another story.

Three of my children have been set adrift on the classifieds. No big fish but might be something of interest. Will have more to follow but Photobucket's been so slow I'm running out of time today.
