: Getting Ready for the Chippers
: CaptZippy March 16, 2010, 01:05:48 AM

It's starting to get warm and the Chippers will be out soon, so I make this rifle rack to put in the Sunroom for the Chipper Eliminators....better than leaning it in the corner or on the table.

I love it!  I was thinking of doing a single rack for my "door gun".  You have out done anything I would ever do!

It's easy...there are plans on the net... http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinRacks.htm  I substituted felt for leather [from an old belt using hot glue to hold it in place] for the rifle rest at the top.  Really turned out nice....and cost about $15 with the wood, hinges, and locking thingamagig (from Home Depot).  I built a couple other styles out of plywood for the basement range.    Check it out!  You can do it.  Get a hole saw for your drill to cut the bottom radius (I used a 2" hole saw I had to install door knobs), a jig saw to cut the opening...a little sanding, some stain and polyeurathane, and vualla perfecto.

So" Thingamagig" is the technical term for the brass plated hardware that holds the portable rack open.  It's really a toy box lid supporter.

I've always wondered the way air gun tend to behave if leaning them in the corner is a good idea?  It seems it would put a lot more pressure on the hinge area and maybe on the stock.  Just my weird thought of the day....:)
