: Trail NP .22

I rough sighted the rifle in to plink some. The gun shoots smooth. Then Saturday the weather was perfect, so I set up my bench to see how the NP would group. The trigger was not to my liking, for bench shooting. Iwas getting quarter size groups at 25 yds. I think it was me because some groups had 3 out of 5 cutting each other. Ordered a GRT-III trgger from CharliedaTuna today. I will post results after the trigger. I was shooting 14.3 Crossman pellets. What are some other pellets that the NP likes?

Mine doesn't like Crosman Premiers, they fit too loose.  It does however like Beeman FTS 14.6 pellets.  Tight groupings and good velocity (780 FPS at the muzzle and 690 FPS at 20 yards).

The GRT III trigger really made a big difference. It was money well spent.

Steve,
Welcome.

No, most likely it's not you. In addition to the bad trigger, the gun needs some break in time and will not be as consistant as it can be while it's wearing-in.

Plus, if you see smoke down the barrel when you've just fired it, it is still burning off whatever that oil is they leave in it. All inside my gun it was still well coated with thin, black oil after a few hundred pellets fired.

Yes, the Tuna trigger will make a BIG differance toward consistancy, but the gun still needs to wear in and burn off any excess oil.

It is nnot smoking, but I have less than 100 pellets through it.  I will shoot some more to break it in.  Thanks for the advice.  It is fun to shoot anyway!!

Steve,
Sounds like you got lucky and have one without a damaged seal. Mine had smoke in the barrel even after a few hundred shots through it. Didn't stop  until I replaced the chewed up seal with  a new seal.

Yes, they certainly are fun to shoot, and once the right pellet and hold is found, then the real fun begins !!!! :D

What all lubes do I need to replace the seal? Just moly?

super,

I used silicone grease on the seal and compression tube. Moly on both ends of the ram, cocking shoe and slot.

Here's a list of what and where about lubes from the library.
