I have tried several, but what I find is that when I want to carry comfortably and be able to use it quickly and not mess with a holster, it's hard to beat a Ruger LCP 380 in a side pocket.  Where concealed carry is the order of the day, it never hurts to have a pocket pistol.  And you can always use it as a b/u and carry something more potent if you really feel the need.

Most of the time it’s my Colt 1911 A1, but sometimes a go with the Browning Hi Power in 9mm. The Colt carries heavy, but some how the weight makes me feel safer. It’s a great looking gun with some history behind it too; it was actually carried in WWII.  My only back up is a fully loaded second mag in my back pocket.

When I'm in a dangerous area, like Philadelphia, I carry my Schrade Uncle Henry.

If I venture into Camden or Newark, I take my Walter PPKS with two magazines, loaded with fmj ammo.

If I go to Chicago, I take my 45 a.c.p. Gold Cup and three magazines, also loaded with fmj ammo !

I let the threat determine what I take with me.

my wife carries a .22 mag derringer ( 5-shot) in her jacket pocket and a beretta .25 auto in her purse.  great little guns with no recoil for a lady.  i know everyone thinks that is small caliber but my wife knows how to shoot "center-mass" with "hot" ammo......but .177 is small caliber also and look at the damage we do with it.... :emoticon:

IWB is a S&W M&P 9 compact with Talons

I also like to pocket carry my Kel Tec P3AT in a wallet holster.  Use Silver Tips but I do have a mag with some unknown hollow points that have to be +P.  I know nobody makes factory .380 in +P but I swear these are about +30% hotter.  Still have one box left.  Oh, I can't remember his name but I sent it off to some guy in Arkansas?  Nickle plated it for something like $25.  Looks great!

I want to know who can conceal a 1911.  I've tried in a Fobus and I can barely pull the thing out without major gyrations.  It really sucks being short!  My buddy (LEO) carries his full size Kimber and I'm jealous.  Although he swears by a J frame .357 in his front pocket.  But then again he's 6' 4".

I did some research and rentals a while ago, and came up with two top choices: The S&W 638, and the Glock 27. I don't own either one.

The only times I thought I should carry (sales in inner city Detroit, a long long time ago), the only thing I had that fit in a pocket was a Browning Model 1922 in .32 ACP (Waffenamt stamp, of course). The .32 is a stupid round but I couldn't walk around with the Walther P38 or Browning Hi-Powerin a sports coat.

I would still like a decent carry piece. I lean to wheel guns but I was really surprised by that little Glock in .40. I never really drank the Glock Kool-aid but among the little belly guns I tried, this was the top performer, at least with enough moxie to make bad people go away.

I thought both of the top 2 models passed the panic-stricken, no warning, where-did-I-put-that-thing, need-it-now test with flying colors. I would still like one of them but I don't really have the requirement at present. At home we are a pump 12 kind of family with many fall back positions.

: michael90t April 30, 2010, 04:00:24 PM

honestly would ditch the .25 and go with another 22 or maybe a .380 would recomend the .32naa but thats a HOT little round.... .25 has got to be one of the most useless calibers I have ever seen hell she WOULD be better offwith a .177 caliber pellet :)

Me and the old man was sitting around one evening and shooting at a 6x6 post about 7-10 yards from us with a little .25 autowhen we went down there to look at it we realized every single round had bounced off the post with not much more then a little dimple in the wood(really it didnt even break the surface... just left little dents....).... needless to say we never shot at the post again... lucky one of us or a window in the house didnt get busted from the bouncing lead....

I'm on the short side & 200 lbs larspawn I really sometime's carry 2 gov model 45's ,it's in the holster design you use, I like mitch rosen design's about 1 bill apiece but well made  worn strong side out side the pant's & a cover vest ( I a redneck at heart so I cut sleeve's off of jean shirt's) it is tiresome to carry both all day  but you do grow accustom to it & a good belt again for me a mitch rosen, no one even notice's mine.a fubus is o.k. got a box full of them but they are not leather & form fitting to body. another great holster is a crossbreed inside the pant's, I just don't like iwb cause you got to buy bigger pant's when used.
: RE: Concealed Carry
: larspawn April 30, 2010, 05:10:05 PM
James,

Thanks!  Have you tried either of these?  I've shot lots of Magtechs not the +P are those new?  The standard issue .380 Magtechs were on the hotter side IIRC than others.  I'll have to try some of those.

When I was blowing $$$ down the range (lots of $$$ at today's prices) I was shooting a couple boxes of the cheap stuff and finished off with a few mags of the good stuff.  Magtech seemed pretty good to me.

These prices seem pretty good considering you get raped on .380 ammo but then again I think we're getting raped on all ammo!

andy, concealing a full size semiauto is fairly easy,..its all in the holster. i use an older galco concealable that rids just behind my strongside hip, with even a t-shirt the entire pistol is hidden unless im stupidly careless.
for a commander size semi, i sometimes use an sob ( small of back ) rig.
both rigs are easy to access, and ive trained endlessly with either in drawing my pistol and aquiring a site picture.

oh...and i can wear either with the prerequiste california shorts as long as i have a cover shirt..:)

Jay,

I hear you on quality holsters and belt.  But still my 1911 and Hipower have me hitching my pants up all the time.  I find I have to wear a wider belt than normal to get good support.  The hassle is its a tight fit through the belt loops if they fit at all.  That's why I love the P3AT in a wallet holster.  No fuss, no muss.  You almost forget its there.  Also fits nicely in a back pocket.  Not the greatest knock down power or capacity but beats my S&W knife anyday.

larspawn I do use suspender's sometimes they help alot in the drag down departmenttry them you will like it (even help's hitching pant's up)& I was also going to tell you try glazer ammo in your .380 very expensive but will hit a ton,I use it in my .32NAA cal gun make's it an even meaner little beast you can find it at cor bon's site, it's a matrix of 12 shot in a mix & a poly ball on nose it reall make's small cal. gun's speak with power& hey remember lot's of people meet the end by a.380 heck it's most likely the most common carry now, from my classes for sure, can't even keep ammo in stock here in ohio.

Which Glock 40 are you talking about? Pardon my ignorance, is there more than one?
: Re: Concealed Carry
: jay morgan May 01, 2010, 12:45:20 PM
shadowshot a 40 is a cal. of weapon not a model ,he was most likely refereing to a glock called a baby glock (small frame easy carry gun)glock make's at least 10 or more style of weapon's,17, 18 ,21, &many more I"m not a glock fan(no reason why) so I don't no all thier model's,good gun's all,I know of one that has been torture tested for year's & still shoot's fine, like 50,000 rds. sand buried, salt water ,mud ,cold, heat, all you can think of & they are a simple gun to shoot, point & shoot, one safety on trigg. that's all. just remember powder gun's are like airgun's most need a little work when new & like air you get what you pay for.

I carry a Kahr PM9 in a Smart Carry holster. The gun is, I believe the smallest 9mm+p pistol that can be found, and is utterly reliable. The holster is a belly band variation that allows carry with nothing on but a pair of shorts and a T-shirt. The thing I like the most about the Smart carry holster is that there is nothing pulling down your pants.

I am a land surveyor in the State of Florida and most of the year it is HOT!!!! and this carry option allows you to ware whatever you want. I have been carrying concealed for 8 years every day and it is the most convenient and comfortable setup that I have ever used. Here are some pics and links. snookman

My old Browning Hi Power....Small sights, slim profile and it hits everything I point at. Carry two magazines..one filled with hardball and the other with Black Talons..depending on the situation.  Works for me.
