Okay, this is my first time breaking into a air rifle of anykind.
I have on order: 1 Maccari seal, 1 Lube set with tar and moly, and 1 Great III trigger. What else do I need, tools, material, any advice. In particular the deburring, is that done with a fine file? I saw that a spanner wrench is needed for the end cap as well. I did do a search and found a lot of info. BUT this is my first one and I like to have everything needed so that it is a one time thing.
Gene, I saw that you put a spacer/bushing on the piston to straighten things out, do you sell those yet or am I needing to make one?
It seems that the Trail XL is pretty popular, I will do my best to put all of the info in one place when this is done.
Thanks in advance for you help.
Carl

No sorry those only come with tunes. I custom make them for tolerance that is needed.
-
Okay, thanks.
-
prepare yourself for that end cap lol!!!!
-
That bad? Shoot it with PB blaster first and let soak? or will the chem damage the seals or other stuff?
-
its got some kind of sealant on it . it kinda looked like teflon tape but it could be some kinda loctite. is your end cap plastic or metal?? i have heard on here that some are plastic mine is steel . i made a spanner for mine and had someone help me hold them. after you turn it 4 or 5 rounds you get the preload off then you can screw it out with your fingures. truely to me that was the worse thing to get them apart after that it is really simple. thanks david

Possably,.. and if it is a plastic cap, any solvent may act as a swelling agent making things worse instead of better.
The cap has a long length of very fine threads, with wraps of what appeared to be a thin tape much like teflon plumber's tape when I got the cap out on my XL. I work with Locktite type thread lockers alot and this wasn't any form of those. If it is teflon tape, it would allow the threads to not only seal very well, but the tape being slippery and if the cap is tightened with alot of force, to easily be over torqued and jam the cap on very tight. I doubt any penitrant will get in with that tape.
Warming the back end of the reciever with a hair dryer may be more help.
Paul.

I'll try that, but until I get my order in.....

In another thread I incorrectly said my Trail XL end cap was plastic. It is not, it is metal. I just checked with a magnet.
-
Okay, got in my seal and lube kit from Maccari. Just waiting on the trigger now.
-
I thought the Trail XL was a gas ram gun???
No need for tar is there???
-
It is Sam...

Did I miss something?

Did I miss something?
I don't think so Carl - just a question about why the heavy tar lube when you own a Trail XL.
As you know, the heavy tar comes as part of Maccari's springer three lube "kit". The heavy tar is meant for use on the outsides of coil springs, but it's not needed in a gas ram gun.
I bought the kit when I ordered new seals for my Whisper. I put an Air Venturi gas ram in it, but ordered the lube kit figuring that if I ever want to convert it back to a springer, I'll have the heavy tar on hand for the coil spring. And who knows, I may get a coil spring gun someday ???
Paul.

I guess that I did miss that, I just didn't know. Looks like I will just have to get a regular springer. I have been looking at a 48.
-
Well, the Benji is no more. I will not attempt to modify or work on my air guns without adult supervision and the proper tools.
-
So, did you throw it in the trash or sell it?
-
I still have the pieces.
-
Okay, we need more info. What happened?????
Hopefully it can be salvaged but if not, is this an XL1100 or XL1500? If it's TRUELY trashed and is an XL1100, I need to buy it for parts. I need a barrel. (http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif)
But tell us what's up and hopefully we can help.

A strap wrench, a spanner wrench (which now has bent pins) A slip and fall. The barrel is tweeked, and end cap is ding up and part of the trigger group is bent. A brused knee and much cussing. I have a replacement on the way. Only thing is that I got to shoot a MRod yesterday and wish that I had waited till after that to make my replacement order. Otherwise there would be a PCP in the safe.

Sorry to hear bout your gun. That sucks when everything go's wrong like that. Thats funny you listed it in your kills! lol At least you have a sense of humor about it. Better luck on the next one.

The replacement should be here in the morning. So, a day of break in and such.
