: Which rifle will still be doing well after 20 years shooting?
: Zzyzx June 18, 2010, 07:38:11 AM
In various topics we see many newer rifles promoted.

From newer designs and rifles to older models, top shelf to bargain basement Chinese knockoffs... which will still be working well after 20 years or more of regular use?

We have a nice RWS Model 48 from the mid 80's that has seen a lot of use. It was working well with no complaints or problems when it was sent to CharlieDaTuna two years ago for a turbo tune. Just did it to see if it would make things even better, and it did. No problems prompted the Turbo Tune as all was working well. After a bit more than 20 years use it was still working fine. Now just a bit smoother.

What out there lasts like this?

Most quality rifles will last a lifetime with proper maintenance. There are still some old leather seal guns performing better today, because of new lubes, than they did from the factory.

In a couple more years this leather seal Daisy model 25 will be 90.

My Grandfather bought it to chaise cats out of my Grandmother's garden. My older brother shot it alot after he got it when Gramps died in 1948. It was handed down to me in the late 1950's and for about 10 years I put hundreds of BB's a week through it.

It still shoots and I keep it next to the back door to sting any Grays that make the mistake of climbing up on the bird feeder.

I'm currently using some crosman 160's, a 140, and a 400 that are in the 40+ year old range.  they are as accurate and shoot as hard as my 2260.  I'll be curious to see how the 2260 shoots in 40 years.  I think it will hold up as well as the earlier crosman's

I have a Crosman model 102 from 1946-47 and a Sheridan Blue Streak from 1965. Both rifles shoot great. My Crosman 1377 from '78 works pretty well too. My dad still has his '40s Daisy Red Ryder. He uses it to keep strays out of his yard. The cocking lever has been repaired with materials at hand, but it still does the job!

With proper care and maintenance a lot of airguns will last a long time. Perhaps in 20 years I'll still be able to shoot my good ol' Chinese B3-F underlever!  :)

Air guns are a lot like .22 rimfires. They will last through several owners and usually only succumb to improper care and maintenance. I've seen both air guns and rimfires that are well over seventy years old still performing well.

My crossman 1322 from 1977 still shoots great had to replace seals ($20.00) the shop I took it to said it looked like it had never been oiled ever so if it would have been maintained it would have been fine.

I have a 35 year old Gecado model 25 , my dad purchased it so my my sister could come AG shooting with us back  in 1975! It still works well, I recall a new seal was installed years back but thats it. So I  would have to say that Diana /Rws/gecado is a good candate for a 20year plus AG:) I still regret selling a gecado mod 50 bought at the same time !!!

I have a Crosman 180 I got about 1965-66 that still holds co2 and shoots well, never did anything to it other than putting the crosman oil on a co2 cart last year after finding out about that

I have a Daisy model 120 that still shoot great. Just under 600 fps with daisy pellets and accurate enough to hit t spoons at 20 yards. Ive had it since I was 16 and just turned 35 this month. So 19 years and it was used when I got it. I might google search the serial number to see if I can figure out exactly how old it is. I also have a daisy 880 that I got when I was 14 that still shoots good. Dont shoot it much anymore but it still works as of last friday.
