: Got my Mike Melick tuned QB today
: kirby999June 11, 2007, 01:50:37 PM
I didn't find it until late, sitting on the front porch, I didn't expect it this soon. I took it inside and opened her up and first impression was not exactly what I'd expected. I thought the wood was going to be on par with the Bam's , it's not. It is better than before , but they still have a ways to go . The shape of the stock is most improved and usable. The bluing is better than before , but IMO not enough. It's not what others had bragged about. The stock looks like someone took a rag and smeared stain across it and let it dry. It has the platform to refinish into something nice I think. OK , I 'm over the shock, lets mount a scope and see how she shoots. The first problem I run into is the nice fiber optic rear sight is in the way of me putting on the scope. OK, we'll just remove it. After examining the sight I realize I have to tap out the pivot pin to get to the screws to remove the sight. With the sight out of the way I mounted a 2x7x32 BSA sweet .22 scope on her. and thought I'd shoot enough to sight her in before dark. Not in the cards, I got to shoot enough to get on center area of target and wanted to try some different pellets as CPL's weren't grouping as well as I had hoped at 10 meters. Then the other half asked if I was ready for supper , she was hungry. You don't argue , you just say sure and go eat. After supper it was sprinkling rain and already almost too dark to shoot. I'll not complain about any amount of rain , we need some . So I turned on my exhaust fan in the upstairs garage range and went upstairs to sweat a little. I tried some RWS superdomes and sighted the rifle in at 6 meters. I noticed the pellets were hitting hard in the gamo trap. The superdomes shot pretty good. I noticed the more I shot , the tighter the groups were getting . I tried some Vogel match wadcutters and it was stacking them; I think the accuracy will to continue to improve as the gun is broken in. I even tried some tomohawks and at 6meters if I did my part shooting off hand I was cutting the 10 ring out of a gamo target . I haven't even shot a full 2 carts of CO2 yet and this QB is out shooting the others I've had . Thanks Mike . This is one smooth shooting QB , from the smooth working bolt ,to the 2 stage almost match feeling trigger. I'll try some more tomorrow at longer distances . That'll let me more of how she's actually going to perform . kirby

Congrat's David, Mike does some magic with them. My QB78.177 Deluxe is a sweetheart, tuned to perfection. The stock is alright but it's going to get refinished for sure. Ed
: Have you put any of those pellets over a chrony yet?

Like those chilly guns and the 2240 is really accurate as well putting out about 9.5fpe.
Pretty nice toget 300+ shots on a 3.5oz tank also.

OK I've got some numbers , but I don't know how to put them in a vertical list. So my list will have to be horizontal . Started with 2 fresh carts. temps low 80's . first 10 shots with JSB exacts ,I think 8.4 g.... 694, 710, 722, 735, 752, 755, 757, 755,758, 758 then I switched to RWS superdomes 8.3g.....760, 762, 762, 761, 765, 774, 771, 774, 776, 774, then I switched to CPH's, looks like 10.5 g...743, 740, 733, 731, 728, 724,721, 717, 714, 716, then I switched to Gamo tomohawks .?...g....785,783, 773, 769, 759, 766, 754, 751, 746, 726. and then I suspected I was getting low on CO2 so I switched back to the CPH's for 5 more shots ...648,642,635,623,616,......The CPH's grouped the best at 10 meters with except for 2, I pulled had a ragged hole , the tomohawks were the worst at over an inch . I'm going to sight it in with the CPH's and shoot some groups at 20 and 30 yards . Looks like the gas started to run out around 40 shots. I'll check the numbers with the CPH's on the first 10 after a couple of settling shots. Will let you know what happens. kirby

With a bc like the cph has I'll bet it will even do nice 50m shots as well. Looking forward to seeing it in action this weekend.

Strange ?? I refilled with 2 new carts , first 5 shots I got an err on the chrony plus the group sucked with the CPH's; figured I wasn't getting lined up right across the chrony so I picked out another dot and shot 10 that ran from 689-706fps. this about 30 fps lower avg than before ? and the group wasn't as impressive. I guess the gun 's got some more breaking in to do.Then I tried some Kodiaks and WOW! avg 715 fps and a single hole at 10 meters . I backed up to 20 yards and shot sitting , resting on my knees and shot less than 3/4" and about a half inch high , that should put me on at 30 yards. . I think I found the pellet it likes. That works out to 12.3 FPE. I think that would kill a squirrel. hehehe. I wished the tomohawks would shoot for me , they're a lot cheaper and shot faster for their weight.. kirby
