: Best hand pump for PCP's?
: daved June 27, 2007, 01:36:02 AM
Posted this in the Shop, but thought it might be better here.

What's the best hand pump? I've got a couple of free SCUBA tanks, need hydro but in good shape, and a (relatively) close place to get them filled. But I'm going to need a pump. The BAM is out, I don't want to spend more time tinkering with the damn pump than I do my rifle! But that still leaves 3 or 4 others, all fairly close in price. How do I decide? Thanks!

Dave, I am pretty happy with my FX Pump.. Bought it knew with my first PCP purchase a little over a year ago.. It comes with a filter which is a must for condensation. I can not compare it to any other pump though, but it has given me good service and still pumps up my FX Cyclone..  Maybe Dano will make a post on his pump.. He may have a different pump.. Mine cost me around $240.00 from Straightshooters..

..found mine on the classifieds for $150 shipped.  I just had to supply the connections......Works fin, although the Hill pump is a nicer, but more expensive unit.  Steve Corcoran has the Hill pump, it's nice but it really just puts air in his guns like my FX pump also does.  Get an automatic compressor, then send it in for "testing" in Texas....bet you'll get it back eventually:)

If I could afford an automatic, do you think I'd be asking about hand pumps!?  Talon got here today, WOW!  More later.

I'll drink to that, Ric!  Of course, it's been said that I'll drink to anything, but that's just a nasty rumor started by my drinking buddies :-)!  BTW, you and Big Bill are a BIG help!  Later.

What Talon did you get?  I'm going suggest getting a scuba tank , heard the Talon Tank is not bad to top off with a pump every 20-30 shots, but you don't want to shoot it low and have to pump it up.(I heard 400 pumps with breaks, just to get it to 2000 psi from empty) I bought my tank  used from a dive shop for $99 , added a valve and gauge from Pyramyd  I think was $75.00 and get refills at scuba shop for $7 , or if in happen to be in Lugoff,  SC ; you can get a free refill from "J " . hehe. kirby

Traded my HW 77 for an SS with both a .177 and a .22 barrel, scuba clamp, and a BSquare adjustable riser.  Tell the truth, I think I got the better end of the deal :-).

Actually, I have 2 SCUBA tanks, on extended loan from my boss.  They haven't been used for years, but one of them was full.  They both need to be hydo'd before I can get them filled, but that's only $17 ea., can't complain about that.  Closest place to get them filled is about 50 miles away, but I can live with that, too.  I still want a pump for those times I just can't get around to getting the tanks filled, or I forget, or I just don't want to haul a tank around.  More later.
