One more,i only have one now! I want to get something compact,like a carbine or custom ma2250. Must be fast and powerfull for hunting. I,m really looking at the taon,miniss,and condor and roys custom ma2250. Must be .22cal or maybe .25cal. If your own or have experiance with these ,any feed back would really help. Wife doesnt want me to wait to the last minute. I have enought rifles,need a carbine or pistol=fast &  powerfull hunting gun. Thanks Paul J.

That is beautifull,but alittle out of my wifes idea of a gift.  To her way of thinking,600.00 should buy a very nice,over priced gun,i didn,t  say anything about 200.00 handpumps,scuba gears,etc,but i have all that covered,just need carbine. lol.

With a .177 barrel, you can easily get 20 fpe, very accurate and quiet.  Also very compact and light.  .22 will bump that to around 30 fpe.  And when you want real power, add a 24" .22 barrel.  40 to 50 fpe is no problem, good shot count, and sub 1/2" accuracy at 30 yards.  And those numbers are stock.  I've got a custom valve in mine, playing around yesterday, I was averaging over 75 fpe, with several shots in excess of 100 fpe.  Didn't bother to check accuracy at those velocities, I was just going for max power.  Did discover my gun prefers a faster, lighter hammer over my heavy one.  Probably would have gotten even higher numbers if I'd switched back sooner.  After I quit messing around, I set it up for Kodiaks at 950-1000 fps for around 45 fpe.  This gives me 40 or 50 shots and that sub 1/2" accuracy I mentioned earlier.  Don't know about groups at longer range, but I finished the day popping charcoal briquettes at around 75 yards.  I didn't miss any once I figured out the hold over.  Good luck!

And I agree with you "J' on this one . If somebody wants a powerful .25 cal. this would be my choice, I'd go ahead and talk to Airhog about putting an extended frame on that sucker and make it stealthy. They'll never know what hit em. hehehe kirby

From what i read about the talonss,just by changing bbl. length ,12",18",24" .You could have a talon ss,talon,or condor.I take the the frame is the same on all 3. Is that right. So,my way of thinking is to get the talon ss and a 24" bbl. in .22ca.. Then i would have a quiet gun or change bbl. out to 24" for more power.

If i cannot talk wife into tank right now and end up getting hand pump,how hard is it to pump tank  after the initial fill,i,m no body builder but  in my line of work ,good shape for my age ,and besides i wouldn,t need to pump up tank myself ,i have 6 or 8 spanish guys who would enjoy it.And i have plenty of industrial tanks of nitogen ,but they are only filled to 2,400 to 2,600 psi.

Personally, I'd check out the career 707.  I owned a barn burning talon, and it didnt really impress me much.  Just my honest opinion. It pumped out over 45 fpe on the highest power, and it took quite a few dollards to get it there.  I could have gotten a career for way less with the same kind of power and accuracy.

Which career and cal .22 0r .25, i would like to stay away from spending more money after buying gun,thats why i want to here from others.

The sumatra 2500 in .22 puts out a lot of energy and comes in full size and carbine. I don't own one just what I've read.

So far, i,m leaning towards the Talon mini ss and career. One feed back was if i get a talon,i may have to spend couple hundred more,is that for more competition shooting,not just for hunting ,i hope. I want something that is powerfull for hunting and acuurate to 40 yds. out of the box. And i like both of these ,Talon and Career,more help ,please. Thanks Paul J.

Hey, Paul, the Talon has the shortest frame and comes with an 18" barrel stock.  The frame on the SS is about 6" longer, this acts as the shroud for the 12" barrel, which helps quiet it down.  Not sure, but I think the Condor frame is somewhere in between.  You can get the SS for $475, a 24" barrel will run $150 or so.  I go SS configuration in .177 for birds and plinking, switch to the 24" .22 barrel when I want to get serious :-).

As you already get nitrogen cylinders, check with your gas supplier.  Oxarc handles 4500 psi nitrogen tanks, that's what I use to fill my gun.  Too lazy to pump, and since I live in the boonies, scuba tanks were just too much hassle.  The nitrogen cylinder has worked out great, the only down side is lack of portability.  I'm sure you know what I'm talking about there.  I've got a second tank on the way, and someday I'll probably invest in a CF tank.

Here's a pic of mine, it's got at custom grip and butt plate, courtesy of our very own DanoInTexas.  Sweet, huh?  Someone commented farther down about a bunch of extra cost to get 45 fpe out of his, not sure what he was talking about.  The stock Talon valve with 24" .22 barrel is quite capable of producing 50+ fpe.  If you want more, you can either modify the stock valve at basically no cost (as long as you don't screw it up in the process), or you can buy a custom valve, like I did.  Guess it depends on what you want.  If you'd like more info on the Talons and Condors, check out the Talon Owners Group (TOG) forum here: http://www.talonownersgroup.com/index.php or the newer Air Force forum here: http://talonairgun.com/forum/.  Good luck, and hope this helps.

....my SS has been nothing but a good gun for me.  The SS and the Condor frame I believe are the same length.  The condor has a longer top rail and a 24" barrel, whereas the SS has a 12" barrel.  The standard Talon has a short frame and an 18" barrel.  All three have different frames.  I have an SS with a 24" barrel, and it is putting out around 44-45 fpe, just like DaveD said.  I have done no heavy internal mods except some trigger work, and have purchased no extra aftermarket parts except the long 24" barrel.  I have never owned or even had contact with any Career guns, although they look very nice.  The biggest complaint I hear about those is that they LOVE air, and require a lot of it.  If you are going to go with a tank and have a shop to get it filled close, then it might not be a big deal.  If you are going to hand pump, like I do, you wont want to pump anymore often than you have to.  If you get your Talon adjusted properly you should be able to top it off with a pump every 30-40 shots with 40-50 strokes.  I am not in great shape, and do not find it to be too bad.  Now I said "top-off", the intial pump up will take a bit of work.  hth,

Thanks Daved and Dan  and everyone,I really wanted the talon ss and i think you guys pushed me over the edge, talon it will be and a extra 24" brll and handpump.. The pump is far insurance ,i get all my bulk nitro free. Thanks.

I did. It is awesome and extremely accurate. This one was doing 1010fps with AA Field Diablo's before I turned her down for target shooting. It's 177. A mates one also in 177 does 950 with Barracuda Match at 10.4gr.
They are quite short compared to all the other guns in my arsenal.

I just got a Sumatra 2500 carbine in .25. All I can say is WOW this thingis really powerful and it is accurate too. You can turn it down to where the noise isn't much more than a loud springer and still shoot accurately out to 35-40 yaard. It is a very nice gun for the money with a lot of good feature. short, lightweight power adjustable, 6 shot and shoulders great(at least for me). you will only get about 12 shots on high power and up to 24 on the lower settings

I think the Talon SS owners here pretty well sum it up. I got an SS about month ago. I think the 12 inch barrel will shoot fine at 40 yards right out of the box. I got mine with a tri-rail which I would highly recommend. The accessory rails already on the gun make it very easy to add a laser etc. I have made one tophat adjustment after getting some info from Dave here. I have it set about 850 to 800 shooting Kodiaks which I feel is powerful enough. I just got a bipod last week and I don't know if I really like it or not but it sure does make the gun easy to set down. I have to admit the standard SS with the end cap is much louder than I expected as it is set from the factory. The Talon guns lend themselves to be modded fairly easily.

I got the Talon SS from Air Hog after I bought an air tank from Air Hog who I really enjoyed doing business with. Very helpful guys out there. With the tank I felt I could do a lot more PCP shooting and not worry about pumping. I think Air Hog can make the SS into a .25. I know they are excited about the .25 caliber option.

The Talon seems to be a really great gun, that is until you try guns that are alot better, I had this problem.  As soon as I saw Kirby's Air Arms carbine, and bought a similar Air arms gun, the rest seemed junky.

If I was to get only one gun, it would be an ERB in .177.  Talons seem like a turd compared to the Air Arms line.  Trust me on this.

I enjoyed reading all the helpfull post,and i would be the first to agree,that there are better and more costly guns,but i have to get what i want to spend bucks on and to be fair to wife . If i were a young guy ,i would go hog wild and buy the top of the line. But,i think i will settle on talon either  the ss or talon with extra barrel and pump. And all you guys that have the air arms ,and the others ,forgot the names of them , i do envy you. And thanks for all replies, PaulJ.
