: dampening twang in a whisper
: March 17, 2008, 07:01:25 AM
When I pulled apart my whisper to get the secondary riser off, I noticed I can see the actual spring inside on the bottom. this is my first springer and first time pulling anything off of it, so I looked around for a little bit and then after finishing what I was there to do, put everything back together.

Since I am new to this, and I want to get rid of some of that "bangk!" mechanism noise when firing, I was wondering if a spring can be tarred directly through this opening? I realize the best way to do it is to pull it all apart and coat the thing, but has anyone every done it that way?

from my limited reading, is this the correct lube?:

I have no intention of doing anything to it until I understand what is going on, and I won't try pulling the spring out without a compressor so you don't have to warn me. I was just curious if anyone had tried it, and what the results were.

No, the spring can't be tarred unless it is removed from the action. It's not a good idea to do any spring or internal lube unless it is disassembled and can cause more problems than it solves tring to do so.
