Can anyone explain how harmonics work with springers. Last night I removed the globe style front sight of my Marksman 0035. Plan on installing a simple muzzle-break on it. Upon shooting it, the accuracy went all to heck. Of course, I don't put much faith in the Tasco scope I mounted on it. Seems I can't quite get the eye relief set and consistant either. Funny part is, the day before, I couldn't miss what I was shooting at?!?!?!?! tjk

Hey Tom,
Harmonics are the vibrations that go through the rifle when fired. This causes a whip like action of your rifle barrel. You had your rifle sighted in with the front sights on, and this must have calmed down the vibrations. When you put your new muzzle break on, it may calm it down even more, I hope, or make it worse ? We wont know until you put that muzzle break on !

Thanks for your input BigBill. Hopefully when Mr. Gene gets to feeling better, finishes his back-log of orders, we'll gaet around to designning one that will work. But I'm in no big hurry. I have also wondered what effect it has on an air rifle barrel? I have been toying with the idea of using one of the barrel harrmonic dampeners used on fire arm barrels and slipping it on an air rifle barrel. It could be positioned anywhere on the barrel. Might be interesting to see what if any effect it has on accuracy?

Not a bad idea Bob. Guess what, the rifle was back on target today!?!?!?! Most have been sun-spots, or alien surveilence yesterday,.....naaa, probably just the operator!!! (ME) LOL's I did take the scientific aproach today. Instead of shooting in a standing position, I shot while sitting on a few sand bags, and applied the knee rest for a "pod". Groups were much better,...even with my naked 0035. By the way, of all the pellets Ive used in it,...besides the crosman Destroyers, it seems to shoot the Beeman Silver Bears the most consistantly. Not only is this my "urban weapon" for pests, but may turn out to be my "bird gun" in the field!!!! If only I could improve the trigger. GRT-III won't work,....Dammit!!!!! tjk

Hey Bob,
With the harmonic balancer you will need to move it up and down the barrel, to find the spot, (sweet spot),where you feel the least vibration in the gun.

Hmmm, interesting thought.
Harmonic Dampeners (Stabilizers) are use throughout the Archery field. Plus they have all sorts of configurations. Some are just weights, others are hydraulic. Some have threads on both ends for reversal, added weights, adjustable dampening, etc. All sorts of mounts are available as long as they're 3/8 fine thread too. Tons of variety, some good, some not so good.
You got me thinking.
You can even get a "Y" yoke. In theory they take the twist out of a bow when released by running 2 balanced to perfection (so they say). may counteract the twisting from a springer? Interesting idea.

I may try something like this by simply wrapping lead wire (solid core solder) around the barrel and slide it to check effects of balancing etc.
If I could move my "sweet spot" out, my hold would be more stable off hand.
