Hunting Gate / Another strawberry sheister bites the bullet
« Last post by DougT on June 21, 2010, 06:11:46 PM »
Tonight before dinner I glanced out the window looking for unwanted critters, as I have been doing every time I walk by a window.  Tonight I noticed something that just didn't look right.  It was too brown and in a place I don't remember leaving anything.  I went to the bedroom and grabbed my 850.  I dialed down the AO to 20 yards, went downstairs and quietly slid open a basement window looking directly at the garden.  Low and behold, it's a tree squirrel laying on it's tummy looking right at the house eating a strawberry.  I jacked a 14.3g JSB Express into the chamber, dialed the power to 6X and used the window frame as a rest.  With the crosshairs right on it's forehead I let it fly.  WHOP.  It really didn't even move and I thought I'd missed.  After about 5-6 seconds of watching it a stream of blood started to run down the retaining wall.  After about 30 seconds it was a more considerable amount of blood.  The thing didn't even move when it got hit.  The pellet had entered somehere on it's head and exited behind the ear, with the whole back of it's head bloody.  As a side note, this was a male with the HUGEST testicles I'd ever seen on a rodent this size.  I'm also attaching a pic of our 150 square foot strawberry patch that sits right at 20 yards from the window.

I also found a pic of the first one I shot eating strawberries a few weeks ago.

Hey Jay

Just wondering what kind of scope you put on your gun?  I even found that my 2 bushnell(AO, airgun rated) didn't stand up to my rws 350. The shots jittered around about like you are describing. I had to use a centerpoint with locking turrets to finally hold zero.  J

Totally understand the heat and skeeters comments. LOL

With the daytime temp hitting 100, I try to shoot early in the morning of just before dark. And the skeeters, they tote off small children around here.

Back to the target picture. Sorry, it still has me puzzled. What is the sticker attached to? Photo kinda appears to be a piece of tile but could be woodgrain too. It looks strange cause there's holes in the sticker but no pass-through or embedded rounds behind it. May be just my eyes...LOL.

Addictive? You said it. I can't believe I spend as much time as I do reading up on air rifles, and making out a wish (I-had-the-money) list. Good things come to those who wait. I did buy a Crosman C02 pistol from Crosman's online custom shop. It's a model 2300 in .22 caliber with a 14" barrel. It shoots OK, but I missed a hard-hitting springer rifle. BTW, I'm starting a Not-For-Profit organisation with the mission to collect fine air rifles from people who wish to fight their addiction to those air rifles (by giving them to me). I'm doing what I can to help those so afflicted. It's a sacrifice I gladly make. If I can help just one person... :)

Gamo Gate / Re: Socom Tactical Scope

Could be the scope. The good news is, it's still under warrantee. I think all Gamo scopes are BSA's now and that could be good or bad. It will probably cost you some shipping but they will probably take care of the problem. Outside of having to pay to get the wrong stuff back to them there customer service was ok when I needed it.

That's awesome.  Glad the kit is working out for you and your shooter.  The kit is just one component, let's not forget the TLC and tuning time you have invested.   Do 75 yards!  :-)

Kewl....sounds like a fun day of shooting. I love watching a target explode like the paintballs. I've tagged them fairly consistantly at 25 yards. You got me ready to step back a bit and test my ability with my XL1500. The gun is capable, just not too sure about the guy behind the glass. LOL

Thanks for sharing but next time, how about pictures?

Happy Shooting!!!!
