How fast do you shoot?
« on: October 22, 2006, 08:34:32 AM »
Dose how fast you reload and take your second shot 3,4,5...  affect the airguns at all? it seems if i let my gun relax for a 60 seconds or more it will shoot tighter groups. if I just sit and bang away it will open them up and go all over the place.  Anyone else notice thsi at all with there guns, or is it just me?

Maybe you're just getting tired, and the muscles have more fine tremor.

For me, it seems to run just the opposite.  I need to fire 10 or 15 shots to "warm up" the gun (me?) before my groups settle down.  I've never timed myself, but I'd guess I fire 3 or 4 shots a minute, with a short pause between groups or to change targets.  Once I get in the groove, things usually hold steady or improve slightly.  After an hour or so, fatigue becomes a factor, at that point I either stop shooting, or just shoot at fun targets like charcoal briquettes at various ranges.

I don't think  it effects your springer or PCP to load and shoot one after another. I think the reason for wider groups is because you do not take as good of aim. When I get in a hurry my groups open up. Take my time and groups get tight..:) But that is just me..... :)

With a Co2 of course your groups will probably open up because you lose velocity as c02 cools the gun. Rule of thumb on C02 is you have to wait at least 30 seconds between shots for gun to warm back up.. That is only what I have read. :)

Hope some experienced shooters will chime in on this one..

I think your groups will and should open up with speed.

Are you wanting to be a Quick Draw McGraw or to you want tight groupers? The choice is yours.

Look at it this way. In Quick Draw the kill zone is about 12" at 10 yards, In Field Target it is 1/4" and in Target shooting it is 1/4" at 30 yards. Just what do you want to do? As for me I want to shoot a Rats Eye out at 10 yards, So I have a two shot maximum. If the first shot is right that is it.

It makes no difference if you shoot a Springer,PCP, or CO 2 you need time to reload (up stairs) Remember the gun can do nothing with out you. Yes with CO 2 you need to take about 60 seconds between shots, Your Brain also needs this time.

Take a Shot. watch your pellet hit, take about 3 deep breaths then look up and around. Then look back at the target. Think about the bulls eye. and think about the kill zone. This should have taken the minuet. Now you are ready. You should make another dead on kill.

You should be here to make your self a better shot and not to see how fast you can go bang. If you want speed get a 6 gun.Air gunning is a sport and challenge for the sportsman.

Actually i take my time between shots. I guess what i was trying to say, if i just shoot 2 a minuet and give it a rest they all stay the same. Anymore and they fly all over. my holds are rock solid (meaning i shoot the same and the gun lays in the same POI) but I dono know maybe it was just me that day.
